- The connections between Dan and Trevor Philips are that they are brutal, vengeful men living in fictional parodies of Los Angeles who have very explosive tempers, making sure to enact revenge on anybody who wrongs them, even over petty, trivial matters, and they won't hesitate to force their reluctant friends (Chris and Elise; Ron and Wade) into accompanying them on their missions. Despite this, however, they're actually riddled with stress, a bad childhood, and poor living conditions.
- A contrast is that although Dan has treated Chris poorly a few times, Dan genuinely cares for him a lot and sees him as his only friend. Trevor, on the other hand, won't hesitate to beat, intimidate, and lie to Ron and Wade, even negatively affecting their lives in some way (Trevor ruined Ron's healthy twelve-year marriage by convincing Ron his wife was holding him back in life, getting him kicked out, and then forcing him to work for his meth business; Trevor raped Wade's cousin, Floyd, and then murdered him in cold blood and lied to Wade about his death).
