History[]

His name suggesting that he is of African descent (presumably Botswanan), Cyrax is a highly skilled and formidable assassin fighting for the Lin Kuei, well respected and reputed by his peers. He frequently partners with Sektor, the second-in-command and son of the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei. However, in the rebooted franchise, Cyrax is amongst the few Lin Kuei (alongside Kuai Liang) to speak against the Cyber Initiative, a process which the Grandmaster has all the Lin Kuei undertake to become cybernetic warriors to keep up with beings and gods more powerful than the Lin Kuei's human masses, which his partner, Sektor, supports entirely. Despite his objections, Cyrax is forced to become a cyborg against his own will, serving as a threat to the defenders of Earthrealm. In MK11, due to the Timequake caused by Kronika, Cyrax returns as a machine once more, working alongside Frost and Sektor to convert Lin Kuei members from Sub-Zero's temple into machines. While he, Sektor, Noob Saibot and Frost are defeated, only Cyrax is spared, free from his programming. Horrified to have become the machine he never wanted to be, Cyrax agrees to help Sub-Zero and Scorpion shut down the Cyber Lin Kuei factory, at the cost of his own life, but not before Sub-Zero promises to bring him back as a human.
