Cordelia is a member of Ylisse's Pegasus Knights, and later, the Shepherds. Since her youth, Cordelia has upheld her duty to protect the royal family, although she still made time for her non-royal allies, such as her childhood friend Sumia. In her earliest days as a recruit, Cordelia displayed prodigious skill in almost all areas, except running. This lack of running would lead her to joining the Pegasus Knights, although she was heavily hazed. Her superior, Phila, regarded Cordelila highly and expressed confidence in her abilities, assuring her that she would become an exemplery knight.
She is also smitten with the prince of Ylisse, Chrom. During an incident in her youth, Cordelia was rescued by Chrom. She was charmed by his dashing rescue that she was smitten with the young prince. However, she ultimately chose to keep these romantic feelings to herself, as she would learn that Chrom's affections were for someone else.
During the time of an uneasy alliance between Ylisse and neigbouring country Plegia, Cordelia was stationed in the country's capital, Ylisstol. Despite the best efforts of her squad, they were decimated by a surprise attack from Plegian forces. It was a unanimous decision by the squad that Cordelia flee and warn the the Exalt, Emmeryn, of the impending danger. As a result of her squad's sacrifice, Cordelia is the only known member to have survived.
After making contact with the Shepherds, led by Chrom, she participates in a battle that the Border Pass. After the battle, Emmeryn decides to go back to Ylisstol to seek parley with Plegian forces. Cordelia volunteers herself to accompany the Exalt, however, Phlia orders her to stay with Chrom and the Shepherds, to which she reluctantly agrees.
Due to the efforts of the Shepherds tactician, Robin. The war is brought to an end. Depending on player choices, Cordelia is wed to one of her allies within the Shepherds, having a daughter named Severa. If Cordelia is unmarried by the end of the war, she diligently continues her service as a Pegasus Knight, becoming the example others should aspire to. Some say it is due to her being unable to have her love reciprocated, though it is never made clear to them who it was.
In a future timeline, Cordelia is slain during the sudden re-emergence of the Fell Dragon Grima, in this timeline, her daughter Severa teams up with other children of the Shepherds, including Lucina, and travel back into the past to prevent Grima's return, and save the Shepherds from their fate. During this time, Cordelia grapples with the consequences of her legacy heavily weighing on Severa's shoulders. Eventually, mother and daughter reconcile, and Cordelia fights alongside her daughter to ensure a better future.
