Claire Redfield vs Ellie is a What-If? Death Battle by DBDoctor13. It sees Claire Redfield from the Resident Evil Franchise fighting against Ellie from The Last of Us franchise in a battle between two young-yet-tough-as-nails females who are survival characters in worlds where infection has led to a world forever changed.

DESCRIPTION[]

Both were only teenagers when their worlds were turned upside down. Both had to quickly adapt to survive the zombie apocalypse. Now, only one of these two survivors will walk out alive. Will Claire make Ellie a permanent resident of the ground? Or will Ellie leave Claire behind and be the last one standing?

INTRODUCTION[]

(Music: Wiz & Boomstick- Brandon Yates)

Wiz: In times of uncertainty, one person must rise up to protect as many people as they can. Even if it is against the undead. But it isn’t always a man who gets the job done when it comes to facing such creatures.

Boomstick: Claire Redfield; survivor of the Racoon City incident and younger sister to S.T.A.R.S. Member Chris Redfield.

Wiz: And Ellie; the young government-trained survivor/savior from The Last of us.

Boomstick: He’s Wiz, and I’m Boomstick!

Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their armor, weapons, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!

CLAIRE REDFIELD[]

(Music: Return of the Zombies by Ray Davies from Vintage Horror & Comedy 2175)

Wiz: Claire Redfield grew up with her older brother Chris after their parents had died.

Boomstick: Goddamn! Not even out of the starting gate and already we have dead parents!

Wiz: However, the two supported each other and graduated from High School. But while Claire would go off to college, Chris would join the Special Tactics and Rescue Service. Though she would still visit her older brother who taught her various hand-to-hand-combat skills and how to use various firearms. Meanwhile, the younger Redfield would go through various boyfriends while developing her skills in motorcycle customization and lockpicking. Eventually, her brother went missing after discovering a secret lab designed to create zombies as a bio-weapon. Claire went to the city to learn more about what happened…

Boomstick: But instead found she was smack-dab in the middle of a zombie apocalypse!

Wiz: Though Claire was not a fighter, she managed to stab, shoot, and fight her way through the undead with the aid of Leon Kennedy. Afterwards, Claire went on her own mission to find her brother. Eventually, the two were reunited and Claire even found herself with a new job as a member of TeraSave; an NGO Organization which offered aid to victims of bioterrorism.

(Music: The Pit by Pete Davis from A Kraken Wakes 3261)

Boomstick: But that hasn’t stopped Claire from being such a frickin’ badass. Thanks to her brother’s training and the experience she picked up on her adventures, Claire is one of the fiercest female zombie survivalists in all of Video Game History. She’s strong enough to roundhouse kick a zombie or human and send them flying back, or throw her knife into a zombie’s neck without hitting Leon who was nearby at the time!

Wiz: She’s fast enough to catch her gun mid-fall and then shoot fast enough to blow up some gas tanks behind enemy soldiers. Or she can throw her gun one-handedly, spin it around in the other hand, then cap off several zombies in the head in the span of one second!

Boomstick: Not only is she deadly with weapons, she’s also surprisingly strong! And I don’t mean that because she’s a woman! She’s punched this fat tub of lard so hard that it sent him tumbling to the ground. She’d probably get more strength if she tried Momma Boomstick’s homemade stuffing!

Wiz: She can hold back steel shelves as zombies try to break in, and once lifted a metal security gate with some help from a teenage girl. Upon closing, the ground shook from the impact.

Boomstick: Damn! Plus, just like her brother, Claire can easily move around giant rocks with ease by herself. But Claire doesn’t just rely on her strength, she also carries a lot of useful items such as her knife that was given to her by Chris. Lucky bitch. Claire also packs some healing herbs which can make her wounds go away, and has plenty of flash grenades to make the best rave club jealous.

(Music: Sticky Rescue by Ceiri Torjussen from Dark Orchestral 2237)

Wiz: Claire also carries a number of firearms including a five-round revolver, an M79 Grenade Launcher (which can also shoot explosive, flame, or acid rounds), a three-shot handgun, and a semi-automatic pistol.

Boomstick: But my favorite weapon of hers is her MAC11 Submachine gun. Oh, yeah. This sweet baby can mow down through zombies like nobody’s problem.

Wiz: Claire is also very durable, she once got backhanded by Albert Wesker which sent her back by over a dozen feet. She was also crushed by a giant vine while slammed against walls repeatedly, any yet continued unimpeded soon afterwards.

Boomstick: She once survived a suicidal dive out of an airplane thousands of feet down and straight into the ocean which would be like jumping into concrete! She also has a tendency to survive getting propelled by explosions behind her and then quickly recovering with little-to-no injury. Speaking of quick, Claire is fast enough to avoid sniper fire from a distance or outrun the Tyrant known as Mr. X!

Wiz: A later version of the T-00 was shown to be fast enough to catch a rocket from an RPG and then throw it back before it could explode. That means that Claire is faster than that!

Boomstick: Well, it’s no surprise given what she’s done. Along with her high intelligence in computers, and ability to solve and escape puzzles/traps, Claire saved the world from infection on multiple occasions. She survived a plane crash in the South Pole, survived for days with no sign of being tired out, and once resisted being changed after infection for six whole months! Given that the slightest rise in fear or tension would mutate her, that means Claire kept a level-head through that entire experience. That’s the kind of woman I want to be isolated with!

Wiz: But Claire is not perfect. Far from it. Compared to other main characters such as Chris, Leon, or Jill, Claire is not the strongest of the bunch. Her weapons have limited ammunition and she is more accustomed to fighting the undead than she is humans.

Boomstick: Still, Claire is one of the coolest survivors to come out of the Raccoon City incident unscathed. If you mess with her, chances are that you’re going to be seeing S.T.A.R.S.

(CLAIRE: You loose, big guy! [Claire fires her RPG Launcher at Mr. X. The rocket goes into him and the shot repeats from a few different angles. Seconds later, the upper body of Mr. X explodes leaving only his legs and lower torso. The legs fall to the ground a second later.])

ELLIE[]

(Music: The Quarantine Zone (20 Years Later) by Gustavo Santaolalla from The Last Of Us Original Soundtrack)

Wiz: In the far-distant future of 2013, a fungus known as the Cordyceps Brain Infection mutated somewhere in the South American Crops quickly spreading to the rest of humanity. The virus would mutate people making them more aggressive and mutated. Eventually the entire planet became overtaken by this fungus virus.

Boomstick: See, this is why I always remember to weed my garden these days. Anyways, the U.S. Military began creating Quarantine Zones once the infection hit harder than I did against the wall after my last divorce. Children were trained so that one day they could join the military and kill those infected. It was kinda like Attack on Titan, except without the crazy acrobatics and the fact that they were killing fungus not giants. Among those trained in the Quarantine Zones was a young girl who would be known to the world as Ellie.

Wiz: While Ellie was trained in combat, it was apparent that she was a rebel. Often sneaking off after curfews to mostly spend time with her friend Riley. Unfortunately, their attempts to unwind at a shopping mall ended in disaster when Ellie was bitten by one of the fungus carriers. But to her surprise, Ellie didn’t change. Aside from a few harmless fungus bumps appearing around where she was bitten, Ellie was completely immune to the infection. As a result, her legal guardian Marlene tasked two smugglers to get the girl to Red Salt Lake with the hopes of engineering a cure from Ellie.

Boomstick: Wait-?! Legal Guardian?!

Wiz: Yes. Marlene was with Ellie’s Mom when she died and seeing as her Dad had been gone for some reason, Ellie’s Mother tasked Marlene with looking after her daughter.

Boomstick: Then where the hell was she before Ellie turned thirteen?

Wiz: …I don’t know.

(Music: The Hunters by Gustavo Santaolalla from The Last Of Us Original Soundtrack)

Boomstick: Meh, well whatever the case, it turns out that Ellie was more than capable of looking after herself. This girl is one quick and stealthy little bugger. She’s fast enough to run at athletic speeds to outpace the infected runners and clicker mutants. She can react fast enough to dodge arrows, and like any apocalyptic video game survivor, Ellie knows how to craft a shit-ton of awesome weapons!

Wiz: Some of these crafted tools include a bow-and-arrow, Molotov Cocktails, Nail Bombs, Smoke Bombs, and a shiv. However, Ellie also uses man-made weapons. Her primary tools include a 9mm Pistol, a revolver, and a hunting rifle.

Boomstick: But Ellie’s no fighter which is why she often prefers to sneak around and take her enemies by surprise. She also has a unique ability to make herself seemingly undetected.

Wiz: Thanks to her training, Ellie appears to have a heightened sense of hearing that allows her to know exactly where an opponent is. She can also move relatively large objects with ease and has survived being shot with handguns and shotgun shells that would otherwise blow apart a human head!

Boomstick: I thought you said there wasn’t a part in the head that when shot caused it to blow up?

(Music: All Gone (No Escape) by Gustavo Santaolalla from The Last Of Us Original Soundtrack)

Wiz: I lied. Anyways, Ellie has Medical Kits and a flashlight to assist her. But with her new guardian Joel’s help, she’s accomplished a lot. She’s carried Joel on her back and put him on a horse, survived whole gangs of apocalyptic jackasses, sniped people from far distances, and managed to survive an attempted surgery that would have killed her with Joel’s help.

Boomstick: And after all of that, Ellie and Joel rode off into the sunset now supported by each other to make up for the family that they lost. Well, maybe. Possibly. We’ll find out whenever The Last of Us Part II hits stores.

Wiz: But Ellie is not perfect. Far from it. Despite being immune to the infection that ravaged the world, she can still be put down just as easily as any other human. She’s also not good at swimming and finally sees her immunity to the infection as a curse, giving her an unbelievable amount of survivor’s guilt.

Boomstick: Still, even with all of those faults, Ellie is a survivor through-and-through. She’s been through hell, and she’ll be ready for more whenever it comes.

(ELLIE: To the edge of the universe and back. Endure and survive.)

DEATH BATTLE![]

Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set. Let’s end this debate once and for all.

Boomstick: It’s time for a DEATH BATTTTLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

PRE-FIGHT[]

(Music: Last Resident by Werewolf Therewolf)

We open on a city and pan down revealing a huge chain-link fence. Suddenly, a dark shadow climbs up the fence. Before reaching the top, the figure jumps over it and lands on the other side. We now see the figure is Ellie. She quickly checks that the coast is clear and then darts down the street. As she passes by, we can see zombies and The Infected, clawing at the chain-fence. It seems to be holding them back but only for so long. Ellie takes a brief glance and then carries on, heading over to an abandoned department store.

Stepping inside, we get a few shots of the interior. There are holes in the ceiling allowing sunlight inside and some of the shelves look like they are beginning to be taken over by various forms of plant-life. Ellie glances around the shelves and finds the place looks ransacked but there are a few items left. She opens her backpack and begins quickly clearing house. Unbeknownst to her, the automatic doors have opened behind her and a pair of feet wearing black boots enter. The camera doesn’t let us know who it is just yet though.

As Ellie puts some medical supplies on a higher display case into her bag, she hears a voice behind her.

???: What are you doing here?!

Ellie turns to find Claire Redfield standing there. She pulls her gun out.

CLAIRE: You aren’t supposed to be here.

Ellie groans, rolling her eyes as she tries a diplomatic approach.

ELLIE: Look, lady; I don’t know who you are, but I’m sure as two reasonable women that we can…

She is cut off when Claire fires a warning shot that zips past her head. Ellie groans drawing her own gun.

ELLIE: Guess we’re doing the hard way, then!

FIGHT![]

The two female survivalists begin shooting at each other as they strafe around occasionally using the aisles as cover. Neither combatant seems to be able to hit the other one, but occasionally some boxes of supplies are knocked over. Ellie takes cover behind one such aisle and Claire ducks behind a nearby pillar to reload.

CLAIRE (Calling out): I take it you’re not with Umbrella or TRICELL, right?

ELLIE (Calling out): If I said I wasn’t, would you let me go?

CLAIRE (Calling out): Sorry. You were still caught trespassing on a quarantined area. That means I gotta take you in or take you down.

ELLIE (Calling out while reaching into her bag): Well, I’m not with them for the record.

Ellie removes a smoke bomb from her bag and very carefully peaks around the corner. Claire sees her and begins shooting at her once more, but Ellie dodges the attack. She waits for Claire to finish and then counts the seconds before arming the smoke bomb. Claire attempts to rush her, but Ellie tosses the bomb right in Claire’s face. The younger Redfield coughs as Ellie knees her in the face and then uses another nearby pillar to parkour off of and jump onto Claire’s back. Ellie attempts to wear her down, but Claire slams the younger combatant against the back of the pillar. Ellie takes out her shiv and stabs Claire in the shoulder with it. Claire cries in pain as Ellie uses the opportunity to kick Claire off of her.

Claire goes rolling until she hits a display of TV’s. They turn on and start playing various RoosterTeeth shows but Claire suddenly hears a moaning noise. Looking back, Claire noticed a big door that reads ‘DON’T OPEN! INFECTED INSIDE!’ The door begins banging violently.

CLAIRE: Motherfu-

The door slams open revealing a horde of zombies who have been attracted by the TV Noise. Claire sees a nearby MAC11 Submachine gun in a glass case. She smashes it open and begins shooting up the undead with her new gun. Ellie fights back as well against the infected until they have been mowed down. Claire and Ellie go at it again with Claire firing a hail of bullets which Ellie just manages to evade. Eventually, the machine gun clicks informing Claire that she has ran out of bullets. Ellie smiles and tosses a nail bomb at her. Claire is confused from the crude-looking object but her eyes widen as she notices the nails in there. She ducks behind a giant bookshelf, but the bomb goes off earlier than she expected it to. As a result, while she doesn’t take any nails to vital areas, some manage to pierce her left leg causing her to cry out in pain.

We get a quick shot of Ellie reloading before we cut back to Claire. The survivor of the Racoon City Outbreak tears off a piece of her shirt and then bites down on it to brace herself. Claire winces as she painfully pulls the nails out of her leg quickly leaving a leaking trail of blood from the puncture. Claire repeats the process a few more times each removal more painful sounding than the last. Eventually, Claire manages to get the nails out although her leg looks like swiss cheese with blood leaking out. She then takes some healing herbs from the inside of her jacket and uses them on herself. Soon the wounds heal up perfectly making it look like she never got hurt in the first place. She goes at Ellie who fires at Claire. However, the young girl manages to dodge the bullets and roundhouse kicks Ellie into a nearby wall. Claire runs forward and begins wailing on her with a series of swift punches and kicks. Ellie manages to take out another shiv and nearly stabs Claire in the chest. Fortunately, Claire manages to back out of the way pulling her knife. The two young women begin going at each other; Claire and her knife vs Ellie and her shiv. Each time the two sharp objects are barely blocked until Ellie manages to catch Claire’s arm and then stab her in the wrist causing her to drop her knife. Claire cries in pain while Ellie make a large cut across Claire’s belly with the shiv. Unfortunately, there is the sound of glass breaking as the two look back to see that more infected have finally entered the store having gotten through the fence.

ELLIE: Dammit! They’ve broken through.

CLAIRE: Then let’s finish this!

Claire takes the opportunity to smack Ellie in the face and then drops a flash grenade in the uninfected survivor’s face. It goes off, blinding Ellie. However, she manages to use her Listen Mode as she sees Claire standing around a corner. Ellie grabs her final shiv and runs past the infected cutting them down until she finally gets to Claire. Ellie leaps up and stabs Claire through the head as she falls to the ground. Ellie takes out another gun and makes quick work of the infected as her sight slowly begins to return. Once it does, Ellie suddenly realizes that the body of the figure she dropped was not Claire, but another infected wearing Claire’s jacket.

CLAIRE (O.S.): Hey, Ellen Paige!

Ellie turns around to see Claire armed with a Rocket Launcher.

CLAIRE: Gotcha.

Claire fires the rocket as it heads straight for Ellie.

ELLIE: Ah, shi-

The rocket explodes, sending Ellie back and taking out a few more infected in the process. Limbs and blood go flying everywhere as the room is engulfed in more smoke. As it dissipates, the dead body of Ellie is seen with massive burn wounds all over her body. Half of her face is melted and frozen in a state of disbelief. Claire puts down the rocket launcher.

CLAIRE: You should’ve stayed away.

With that, she leaves via an emergency exit as Ellie is devoured by the infected.

K.O.[]

ANNOUNCER: K.O.!

RESULTS[]

Boomstick: You know, I sadly believe that The Last of Us Part II isn’t going to have such a happy ending now.

Wiz: Both women were experienced in dealing with the infected, but running the data over-and-over, there was one who scored a lot more victories than the other.

Boomstick: Ellie might’ve had her radar-sense-styled powers, but that didn’t mean she knew exactly who was there. Sure, Claire might not have had such an ability, but she’s survived against very powerful and crafty foes. Plus, her arsenal was way deadlier than Ellie’s was. In fact, given how easily characters find supplies in the Resident Evil Universe vs The Last of Us Universe, that meant Claire had more to work with. Finally, there's the fact that Claire survived a lot more crazy falls and wounds than Ellie did.

Wiz: Ellie might have been faster than the infected in her world, but Claire’s outrun everything from B.O.W.’s to Giant Alligators!

Boomstick: Hey! It’s Mr. Snappy’s cousin; Mr. Bitey!

Wiz: Also, while Ellie could react faster than sniper shots, Claire’s done so as well and dodged multiple shots in much quicker succession than Ellie. And while Ellie’s acute hearing let her see people she couldn’t, it didn’t show who they were specifically. Something Claire could take advantage of. Finally, Claire was stronger than Ellie thanks to her gate and boulder feats,

Boomstick: In the end, Claire took this battle with better reaction, strength, tools, and intelligence. She was CLAIREly ready to be the LAST OF US standing!

Wiz: The winner is Claire Redfield.
