Choo-Choo Charles vs Mommy Long Legs is a What-If? Death Battle by Vrokorta. It pits Choo-Choo Charles from the game of the same name, against Mommy Long Legs from Poppy Playtime.
Intro[]
Vrokorta: Spiders, everybody hates'em.
Sphere Robot: Not everyone.
Vrokorta: WELL I DO! THEY'RE TERRIFYING!
Sphere Robot: To some people yeah, like Charles, the demonic spider-train.
Vrokorta: And Mommy Long Legs... I mean she's scary but not cause she's a spider.
Sphere Robot: He's Vrokorta, & I'm Sphere Robot. It's our job to analyze their feats, arsenal & skills to find out who would win, a Death Battle.
Choo-Choo Charles[]
Vrokorta: Charles originates from the island of Aranearum, where he was hiding underground for reasons unknown. He was unearthed when a wealthy man known as Warren Charles III expanded his mining company onto the island, & discovered eggs containing more of Charles' species. Soon after these eggs were discovered, Charles attacked the miners & escaped to the surface, where he inhabited one of Warren's mining trains & became a threat to the island.
Sphere Robot: So he wasn't always a train?
Vrokorta: Not likely. The train he inhabits is branded with the name "Charles", which is where he got his name. However, all of Warren's trains are branded with the same name, so it only makes sense that he got the train from Warren, & he couldn't have done that until Warren brought his trains to the island.
Sphere Robot: Alright that makes sense. While Charles is well known for being a train, he's actually quite small, being only two & a half meters tall, including the distance he stands off the ground. Unlike regular steam trains, which can weigh over 80 tons, Charles stands closer to a measly 20 tons.
Vrokorta: He may be smaller than a train, but he's just as fast as one. When an Archivist comes to the island to stop Charles, they get a train of their own to fight the demon, & Charles can keep up with it no problem.
Sphere Robot: He doesn't just keep up, he fights the dang train, with nothing more than his bare spider legs! And this thing can bust through walls!
Vrokorta: Lucky for the Archivist, they had an assortment of weapons to fight Charles. A machine gun, a flamethrower, a missile launcher, & an autocannon, just enough to drive off Charles.
Sphere Robot: Unlucky for the Archivist, the goal is to kill him, not drive him off, but Charles has a tendency to flee before that can happen. There's only one way to kill the spider-train, & that's to provoke him, into a Death Battle... I mean, a battle TO the death.
Vrokorta: It's not easy to anger a spider who shrugs off bullets & explosions, the Archivist had to hit him where it hurts, the family.
Sphere Robot: By stealing & destroying Charles' eggs, the spider-train becomes angry enough to fight without fleeing. Problem is, the eggs are almost impossible to destroy. The only way to destroy them is to place them on an altar in the middle of the island, where the energy is extracted & dispersed into the sky.
Vrokorta: But there's a catch that everyone had to learn the hard way. When the eggs' energy is dispersed, Charles can absorb it, doubling in size & growing stronger, becoming Hell Charles. Not only has he become strong enough to fracture an entire shed, but Hell Charles also induces a thunderstorm, & gains the ability to teleport.
Sphere Robot: The people of Aranearum weren't ready for this the first time it happened, but they were ready the next time. Not only did the Archivist beat him to a pulp after upgrading their train, but they also rigged a bridge to explode, setting it off once Charles was at his weakest to drop him down, falling face-first on a spike, finally ending his rampage once & for all.
Vrokorta: Or so we thought. Charles may be dead, but he had more than just three eggs hiding underground. It's only a matter of time, before the next generation of spider-trains are unleashed upon Aranearum.
Mommy Long Legs[]
Vrokorta: Some time in the mid to late 80s, Playtime Co. founded a material they called elastic plastic. Wanting to capitalize on this discovery, they started designing a new toy that would use this elastic plastic.
Sphere Robot: They came up with Mommy Long Legs, a spider-lady with stretchy limbs. However, it'd be a while before this toy ever saw the light of merchandising, as Playtime Co. was more focused on other experiments.
Vrokorta: Nothing special, just trying to RAISE THE DEAD... rats. Raise the dead rats... back to life.
Sphere Robot: Well that didn't go so well, apparently rats were too small. They needed to experiment on something larger. I suppose they could always try sheep, goats, cows-
Vrokorta: Or children.
Sphere Robot: Children?
Vrokorta: Yup.
Sphere Robot: ... indie horror, amirite?
Vrokorta: To make a long & frankly speculative story short, Playtime Co. met success in experimenting with children, one of which being a girl named Marie Payne, who was turned into Mommy Long Legs.
Sphere Robot: Congratulations, your plan worked, now you have a murderous spider-lady living on your property & killing your employees for fun.
Vrokorta: Luckily, or I guess unluckily, Playtime Co. was able to find a workaround. Mommy Long Legs loves children. They calm her down, & she doesn't act out when they're present. Plus, kids actually listen to her, like she's their actual mother. Thanks to this, Mommy Long Legs earned her place in the Game Station, where she'd watch over any children that passed through to play her games.
Sphere Robot: Things were actually going pretty well for her... that is until the disappearance occurred. Y'see one day, out of nowhere, all of the employees at Playtime Co. just vanished, leaving everything completely unattended, & that meant no children for Mommy.
Vrokorta: She was forced to live alone for 10 years, believing herself to have been abandoned. That much time alone would drive anyone crazy, but seeing as she was already crazy... she's probably fine.
Sphere Robot: If by "fine" you mean dead-set on killing the next human she lays eyes on in the most sadistic & torturous way possible.
Mommy: Obey the rules, or I'll tear you apart & eat your insides, while you're still alive...
Vrokorta: Hey she was a murderer the moment they made her, if anything this is normal behavior.
Sphere Robot: Either way, that's exactly what happened. When the protagonist arrives to find the missing employees, Mommy ambushes them & threatens to eat them alive if they don't play her games. Problem is that each game is rigged to guarantee the protagonist's death.
Vrokorta: Apparently not since they survived all the games.
Sphere Robot: Not every game, they "cheated" on the last rigged game, & Mommy finally lost her cool. She chased them down & demanded that they play hide & seek, to the death.
Vrokorta: Lot of good that did her. She chased the protagonist so hard that she got her hand stuck in a grinder, so all the protagonist had to do was *fwip*, flip the switch & watch the show.
Sphere Robot: In all honesty Mommy could've survived this, but she tried so hard to get her hand out that she got her foot stuck, which crushed her abdomen & brought her nightmarish life to a premature end... eh, maybe she's happier dead.
Vrokorta: Not likely. Ever since being turned into a spider, Mommy Long Legs loved little other than killing adults, so much so that she practically honed her skills to do just that. She hides under the cover of darkness, climbing out of reach & out of sight to ambush her prey.
Sphere Robot: Once she's caught them, she tears them apart & eats them alive. Some prey is tougher though, & she has to chase them down, using her ability to climb walls & stretch her limbs to catch up to anyone that would dare deprive her of a good murder.
Vrokorta: About those stretchy limbs, they go a pretty long way, being outright confirmed to stretch for several hundred feet, & it's not just her limbs. Her hair, neck, arms, fingers, waist, & legs are all capable of stretching independently of one another.
Sphere Robot: And just like a spider, Mommy has webbing she can fire to slow down targets or block their escape.
Vrokorta: She also has lesser-known abilities originating from Project Playtime. Her Spotter Lens lets her see through walls, allowing her to temporarily track her opponents when they're out of sight. Then there's her Sabotage, though she can only use one in a set of abilities. For this battle, we'll give her Living Nightmare, which allows her to temporarily restrict the target's vision.
Sphere Robot: But enough about her abilities, how strong is she?
Vrokorta: Well, like most monsters in the game, she's unaffected by the GrabPack, which is strong enough to rip off human heads, a feat worth over 3.5 Kilojoules. Heck, she can even overpower these monsters, meaning she's just THAT much stronger than the GrabPack. But that's not all, by scaling her to Huggy Wuggy, we estimate that she weighs around 300kg, can run at 18m/s, & generates 50 Kilojoules of kinetic energy by running at full speed.
Sphere Robot: 300? 18? I thought Huggy weighed over a tonne, & ran at 27m/s.
Vrokorta: Yeah so confession time, I was angsizing the distance for the speed wrong, & I assumed he was as dense as a human. When angsizing properly, I got a shorter distance, & thus a lower speed. As for the density, I was able to find the mass & height of an actual velcro monkey, as well as a Huggy plushie, & used square cube law to find Huggy's mass, then added in a human's mass for good measure. Gotta account for the fleshy bits somehow.
Sphere Robot: Well alright then. Wrapping things up for Mommy though, it's said that elastic plastic is vulnerable to extreme cold, which makes sense considering that rubber becomes brittle when frozen. There's also her reckless aggression that wound her up in that grinder.
Vrokorta: She may be dead now, but I don't quite think we've seen the last of her. After all, if Marie's soul was moved into Mommy, who's to say it can't be brought back after she dies?
Intermission[]
Vrokorta: Alright, the combatants are set. Let's see which spider gets squashed.
Sphere Robot: It's time for a Death Battle!
Death Battle[]
A large pink hand stamped down on a man dressed in a hazmat suit. "Muahahahaha!" a sadistic voice laughed as the hand lifted the man up & threw him through a hatch in the floor. "Yet another victim for the Huggies" the voice said as the hand retracted back to its owner, Mommy Long Legs. "We're practically spoiling those things, I think I'll have to take the next victim for myself" the spider said to herself. As if in response, the sound of a train pulling in rang out across the factory. "Ooh" Mommy said excitedly, "Right on time".
Mommy Long Legs swung & climbed through the factory until she reached the train station. "A new playmate, & it hasn't been long at-" Mommy stopped as she saw the train in front of her, "all?". The train was small & red, a farcry from the colorful toy trains she was used to seeing pull in. The side of the train was labeled "Charles", but the strangest thing was the demonic face plastered on its front. Mommy scoffed, "The things this company comes up with nowadays. What kind of child would want to play with this?".
Her response came as a set of eight spider legs burst from the sides of the train, allowing it to stand up. Choo-Choo Charles turned to face Mommy. The spider woman leaned in close as she spoke, "I don't know what you're here for, but I suggest you back away, before you get hurt". Charles' response was to raise his front leg & slash the woman across the face. Mommy reeled back, but only seemed to grow angry as her pupils dilated & her hair bent at erratic angles. "Oh, so you want to play games do you? Well I've got a game for you" Mommy said as she tore bars from the rafters, "It's called, KILL CHARLES!". The spider woman roared as she lunged at Charles with the bars aimed at his face.
FIGHT!
The metal bars stabbed through Charles' face, causing him to reel back. Mommy tore the bars back out, spraying blood across the floor before continuing to bash him with the bars. Charles swung his legs out, knocking the bars from Mommy's hands before clawing at her arms. The pink spider suffered a few cuts before backing off & grabbing a piece of debris off the ground. She chucked the rock & it shattered against Charles' face.
The spider-train responded by charging straight towards Mommy. The pink spider reached for the rafters to get away, but was too late as Charles ran her down & smashed her through a wall. The spider-train tossed Mommy to the floor, but she immediately stretched to the ceiling & returned to the rafters. From there, she began tearing pieces out of the ceiling. Before Charles knew it, the whole roof was coming down on his head, burying him under rubble.
"That ought to teach you" Mommy said as she descended to Charles' location. She grabbed hold of the only leg left sticking out of the rubble, "You'd better be worth the cuts & bruises". Just as she was about to take a bite out of Charles, the leg lashed out & cut her face. As Mommy reeled back, Charles pulled himself from the rubble & lunged at the pink spider, biting right into her abdomen.
Mommy Long Legs cried out as she started punching Charles in the face, "Let go of me you creep!". The spider-train responded by pulling against her, threatening to tear out a chunk of flesh. Getting desperate, Mommy grabbed Charles' jaws & forcibly pried them open, loosening his grip enough for her to escape. She didn't stop there, as she attempted to break his jaw by prying it even further.
In retaliation, Charles swiped at Mommy's midsection, forcing her to release her grip & back off. Charles took this moment to ram her, sending the pink spider flying back. She managed to recover, but Charles was on top of her seconds later. Spider legs flew out like a series of blades trying to cut open Mommy. The pink spider dodged & countered, but Charles was fast, his attacks were getting through, & Mommy was wearing down.
Eventually, Mommy Long Legs managed to grab his legs, holding them back from attacking. However, Charles simply lifted her upwards & used his next two legs to slash at her midsection, causing Mommy to scream in pain. The pink spider released her grip on Charles & shot webs at his limbs, getting the spider-train stuck. "There! Not so tough now are you!?" Mommy boasted.
However, there was a sound like fabric ripping as Charles tore through the webbing, & slowly approached Mommy. The pink spider backed away, her smile faded from her face, as she began to feel... fear. Mommy ran off & climbed up a wall, getting well away from Charles before stopping to breathe. She could hear him moving around, but there was no way he'd make it up here. However, her breathing suddenly stopped. It sounded like Charles was getting... closer. That couldn't be, an entire train couldn't climb a wall... could it?
Her answer came as Charles crested the wall & faced Mommy himself. The pink spider immediately took off with the spider-train following close behind. In fact, for all Mommy's agility maneuvering the factory, Charles was gradually catching up, charging through every obstacle in his way.
Mommy had to abruptly stop as she reached a bridge with a dead end, leading into a deep drop off. She turned around to see Charles still approaching at full speed. However, Mommy got an idea. She used her Sabotage, causing Charles to suddenly go blind. Mommy stretched to the ceiling, leaving Charles to smash through the bridge's railing, stopping just shy of the edge. Mommy dropped down behind the spider-train & reeled back. "SO LONG CHARLES!" she screamed before lunging forward & shoving the spider-train. His body nudged forward...
but Charles stood his ground. "What?" Mommy questioned before shoving Charles again. He hardly budged, the train was simply too heavy. "N-no" Mommy silently begged as Charles carefully turned around, his sight slowly returning.
Mommy Long Legs bolted in the other direction, but Charles stabbed his leg through hers, stopping the pink spider in her tracks. He stabbed through her other leg before slowly pulling her towards him. Mommy turned to punch at Charles' face, but the train stabbed down on her shoulders & swiped outwards, tearing off her arms & tossing them into the abyss. Mommy tried to stretch away in one last desperate attempt, but Charles rushed after her & stabbed his legs into her abdomen. Paralyzed by the pain, she was helpless as Charles lifted her up, her head now facing Charles' mouth. She couldn't be sure, but it almost looked like Charles was smiling up at her. And then-
SPLURTCH!
Mommy's head was crushed in Charles' jaws.
K.O.!
Charles continued to feast on Mommy's corpse, her injured legs hanging limply from her abdomen.
Results[]
Sphere Robot: Well that wasn't really fair was it?
Vrokorta: Well no, it wasn't. Comparing strength gives us the first of many clear-cut edges Charles had over Mommy. Where Mommy could compare to Huggy Wuggy generating 50 Kilojoules of kinetic energy, Charles could harm a train capable of exerting 11 Megajoules when it busted through a wooden wall, & he himself could generate 5 Megajoules of kinetic energy himself, making Charles at least 100 times stronger than Mommy.
Sphere Robot: Next up was speed, which was a bit closer. Scaling to Huggy again meant Mommy could run at speeds just over 18m/s. However, Charles could keep up with a steam train, which can achieve speeds of 25m/s, & that's before the Archivist upgrades it. So even though Charles was heavier, he was actually faster.
Vrokorta: Speaking of mass, that was another point in Charles' favor. While we can't say for sure how much Mommy Long Legs weighs, we can assume she's in the same ballpark as Huggy, who weighs over 250kg. Meanwhile Charles was part steam train, putting his weight around 18 tonnes, even for being a small steam train. That wasn't all, as Mommy was capable of overpowering the GrabPack, which can rip off human heads, a feat worth 1.53 tonnes. This STILL wasn't enough to tangle with Charles, so there'd be no pushing him off a bridge to make him fall to his death again.
Sphere Robot: Now arsenal is where Mommy triumphed. Thanks to her webbing, her stretchiness, her stealth, & her Sabotage, she was able to keep Charles at bay for a while. However, it wouldn't be enough to actually kill him.
Vrokorta: Mommy was also smarter, having actual human level intelligence as opposed to Charles, who was essentially a wild animal. Even so, Charles physically outclassed Mommy so heavily that these smaller advantages wouldn't be enough to stop him.
Sphere Robot: We didn't even bring up Hell Charles, which'd boost his strength to 27 Megajoules thanks to busting through that shed, & giving him the ability to teleport.
Vrokorta: Mommy Long Legs wasn't itsy bitsy, but she sure got washed out.
Sphere Robot: The winner is Choo-Choo Charles.
