A terrifying battle between creepy little not-quite kids!
Written by Th3Gr8DrX
Interlude[]
Wiz: What could be more innocent than a child?
Boomstick: I've never trusted kids. There's something about the way they... look at you. I don't like it.
Wiz: Yeah, that's justified. Especially by today's combatants.
Boomstick: Yay! Children killing each other!
Wiz: Chara Dreemurr, the Fallen Human.
Boomstick: And Dora-in-Grey, the town of Phnom Nonh's number one attraction. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armour and skills to find out who would win… a Death Battle.
Chara ATTACKs DEATH BATTLE![]
Wiz: Chara wasn't always what they are today. Once, they were just a normal kid, living in a normal human village.
Boomstick: But you'd better believe life was anything but easy for her. Him? What's Chara's gender?
Wiz: Don't. The fans. They can hear us.
Boomstick: Born into an abusive family, life was pretty bad.
Wiz: They developed a hatred toward all humans, but being just a child, they couldn't do anything, and spiraled into a depression, eventually deciding to climb Mt. Ebott to... well, you know.
Boomstick: Oooh! I love child suicide in my kids' games!
Wiz: The idea here was that if the fall didn't kill them, the monsters would.
Boomstick: Yeah, except neither of those things happened. It turns out monsters are friendly, and flowers are, like, REALLY soft.
Wiz: They were found by Asriel Dreemurr, the prince of the monsters, and adopted by his family. Finally, they had a place where they could be happy.
Boomstick: Yeah, except they still hated humans. They still wanted revenge. And they had an idea as to how.
Wiz: One can only cross the barrier between the human world and the Underground with the power of both a human and monster's souls. So they would kill them self so Asriel could take their soul and cross the barrier under Chara's control, collecting six more souls to break the barrier, and then the monsters could wage war on the humans, this time winning.
Boomstick: Wow, what a neat plan! How'd that work out?
Wiz: Uh... yeah... so Asriel fought back against Chara, not wanting to kill humans, and ended up getting both of them killed.
Boomstick: Sh*t.
Wiz: Not much happened for a long time, until the eighth human, Frisk fell into the Underground, with DETERMINATION so strong, it woke Chara back up from death.
Boomstick: Unsure entirely of what was going on, Chara was confused as to what happened, but upon seeing Frisk, saw an... opportunity, and possessed them. They were going to need a body to make a triumphant return, after all.
Wiz: The only problem was that Chara was weak. Very weak. They needed to gain LOVE to become strong enough to actually control Frisk's body. Fortunately, Frisk eventually got bored after going through the same loop time and time again, and committed mass genocide of all monsters, making Chara strong enough to be the one in control.
Chara: Here we are! About time.
Boomstick: Strong is an understatement. Chara is incredibly, incredibly powerful, with a weapon strong enough to completely annihilate anything in their path, namely the Real Knife.
Wiz: There are few things that can compete with the Real Knife, especially when it's being swung around by Chara with LOVE 20.
Boomstick: But the thing about a knife is that it's small and short range. Fortunately, they also have the... Empty Gun? Wiz, I'm confused.
Wiz: The gun may be empty, but Chara can actually use their own DETERMINATION in place of bullets to fire powerful projectiles at foes, strong enough, in fact, to kill the incredibly high-HP Mettaton NEO.
Boomstick: So they're so determined to shoot people that they can make bullets with their mind?
Wiz: Oh yeah, that reminds me. The Real Knife might be strong, but it's nothing compared to DETERMINATION, the power to control time.
Boomstick: Yeah, DETERMINATION's pretty busted. Not only can you reset the world to any SAVE point you make, but any time you lose a fight, you can just try again.
Wiz: And Chara has obtained so much DETERMINATION that they can not just SAVE and LOAD, but also ERASE.
Boomstick: Yep. Chara can just flat out decide to get rid of everything if they wanted to.
Wiz: But they're not without their weaknesses. They're still a child, and they get more and more frustrated the less something goes their way, to the point where at times they abandon all strategy and just slash wildly.
Boomstick: But still, Chara Dreemurr is a force to be reckoned with. If you f*ck with Chara, you're as good as dead.
Chara: No? Hmmm... How curious. You must have misunderstood. SINCE WHEN WERE YOU THE ONE IN CONTROL?
Dora-in-Grey paints a picture of a DEATH BATTLE![]
Wiz: In the land of Erdrea, all is not well. With the return of the Lord of Shadows, the world faced a threat like no other.
Boomstick: Yeah, people weren't too happy... except for one place.
Wiz: The town of Phnom Nonh was, as ever, concerned with making money and being a hot tourist destination.
Boomstick: And they received what seemed to be a miracle. A mural appeared in the nearby ruins that could supposedly heal the sick, bestow good fortune on you, and all that good stuff. Too bad it turned out to all be rumours started by a little girl named Dora, who turned out to be a little more than she seemed.
Wiz: The mural was, in reality, along with Dora, one of Lord Mordegon's creations, captivating people with its beauty, and taking them into its inner world for the purposes of eating their souls.
Boomstick: They should have seen that coming. Seriously. When you know there's all kinds of evil stuff going down, and then a magic painting just... appears out of nowhere, you should realize that it's probably bad news.
Wiz: Well, it's a good thing Dora played her part so well. She's incredibly skilled at manipulating others, and can seemingly tell exactly what she needs to do to get you to look at her mural, and from there, it's game over.
Boomstick: Once you're in there, it's curtains for you. Dora can fully control the Other Side, and all its weird, floaty platforms and carnivorous plants.
Wiz: And, once in her world, she can reveal her true form,
Boomstick: Palutena?!
Wiz: Dora-in-Grey!
Dora-in-Grey: Hm hm hm! Ha ha ha! Hee hee hee hee! HAAA HA HA HA HA HAAA HAAA HA HAAA!
Boomstick: I don't like her.
Wiz: Yeah... I get it. She's not too great to look at. She's crazy strong, though.
Boomstick: She's huuuge, so even just getting slapped by her is going to hurt big time!
Wiz: She can fire lasers as hot as lava from her eyes, or control the vines growing out of her, making them bite at opponents to heal herself.
Boomstick: And when she's feeling particularly desperate, she can use her most powerful attack, the... finger flick! OooOooOooOooh!
Wiz: But her most powerful weapon is the Magic Key, capable not only of unlocking magically sealed doors, but also locking away the special abilities of her opponents or even taking over their minds.
Boomstick: Not to mention, sometimes she gets pepped up, making her attacks hurt a lot more! Like she needed that...
Wiz: Not to say Dora isn't without her weaknesses. She thinks only of ways to make her mural more beautiful, and is prone to start losing her temper whenever things don't go her way.
Boomstick: Not that it really matters, though. When you can do what she can, everything goes your way.
Serena: But, but why? Why did you do this?
Dora-in-Grey: Ha! Why? For beauty of course! For my masterpiece!
Death Battle[]
Chara is seen walking around the town of Phnom Nonh, inconspicuously eyeing the passerby, until she bumps into a little girl with red hair.
Dora: Oh! Excuse me! I'm sorry!
Chara walks by without acknowledging her at all.
Dora: You know, if you're here, you must be on your way to visit Phnom Nonh's famous mural. It's quite magical, you know.
Chara slows their pace, and turns to look at Dora.
Chara: Oh?
Dora: It's true! It healed me, and it's given others wealth, power, whatever they want! It's down in the ruins.
Chara: Power...
Dora: It can't hurt to go and look, right?
Chara: You're not wrong...
Chara heads off in the direction of the ruins. Dora stays behind, smiling maliciously, until her eyes glow a bright red, and she disappears in a puff of purple smoke.
Chara is seen at the door to the ruins, walking into the room to see the mural. As they approach, they immediately notice something is off about it. As they turn to leave, however, the doors swing shut, and Chara is left trapped. Turning around, they see the mural start to glow, and then Chara gets sucked inside. Chara, however, is not alarmed, more curious as to what will happen next. As Chara begins to explore this weird, twisted landscape, they meet Dora again not too far away.
Dora: Well, hello there!
Chara: Neat trick! So, you're evil, I guess?
Dora: Evil? Me? How many of my fellow monsters have you killed since you got here?
Chara (grinning demonically): Oh, I've lost count.
Dora: It's high time I put an end to you.
Dora looks Chara up and down.
Dora: Yellows, greens, yes... you'll do nicely. I'll be all the more beautiful once I take your soul.
Chara: Well, then, good luck with that.
Chara draws their knife and smiles as their face twists into something less human and more monstrous.
Chara: THIS WILL BE FUN!!
FIGHT!
Chara runs straight for Dora, slashing wildy at her 3 times, but Dora calmly avoids all of the strikes. Chara stabs Dora right in the chest, but instead of any blood or the like, she leaks a purple smoke. Her eyes glow red, and she laughs maniacally as she disappears. They turn around and look up to see Dora transformed into the very mural that they entered through. Chara jumps into the air and slashes at the mural, only to be rebounded by a violet shock wave as the mural transforms further into Dora-in-Grey, laughing crazily. Chara looks at her with amusement.
Chara: Very impressive display... but I don't really care how strong you get. I'll always be stronger!!
They leap at the large, twisted woman before them, only to get swatted out of the air with a huge slap, falling to the ground and smashing into a wall.
Dora-in-Grey: Stronger. Sure.
She punches at Chara, and as they try to dodge, they realize that their leg is broken and they can't move. Chara grins as they get punched into oblivion, leaving nothing but a bloody stain on the wall.
They leap at the large, twisted woman before them, only to be met face-to-face with a giant hand coming straight at them. Chara stabs their knife into her hand, using the momentum to somersault over, landing on her arm and charging at her face. Dora shakes them off, causing them to fall, and as they do, Chara pulls out their gun and fires three shots at Dora-in-Grey before landing and scrambling to their feet, shooting once more before Dora slaps them again, sending them back, off the edge, but they grab on before they fall. As Chara climbs up, Dora-in-Grey takes the key around her neck, it shining a brilliant pink, then Chara doing the same. They point their gun at her and pull the trigger, but nothing happens. They try again. And again. Chara furiously, futilely, pulls the trigger repeatedly, to Dora's amusement.
Dora-in-Grey: Awww, what's wrong? Having a little trouble?
Dora snaps her fingers and a huge, thorny tentacle-like vine extends toward Chara, biting at them furiously, taking off the arm holding the gun. Chara looks back at where their left arm was and screams out of anger. They take out their knife in their right hand and start running for Dora, but the vine comes back, wrapping around them, stabbing them with its thorns, before throwing them into the deep abyss taking up most of the Other Side.
As Chara climbs up, Dora-in-Grey takes the key around her neck, it shining a brilliant pink, then Chara doing the same, before the glow surrounding them gets expelled with Chara laughing.
Chara: Nice try! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Your tricks don't work on me!
Chara fires shot after shot after shot at Dora, with her vines able to block most of them.
Dora-in-Grey: This is truly a magnificent battle! I can only imagine how beautiful I will be once I destroy you!
Dora's vines fly toward Chara, but they leap, flip and slide through all of them, slashing wildly as they do, without getting a scratch. Chara runs right at Dora.
Chara: You shouldn't have left yourself vulnerable! You die NOW!
Dora-in-Grey: Who said that was my only trick?
Her eyes change from red to bright yellow-orange, and laser beams shoot out at Chara, looking at the beams incredulously before their flesh is gruesomely melted off their bones.
Dora-in-Grey: Who said that was my only trick?
Her eyes change from red to bright yellow-orange, and laser beams shoot out at Chara, grinning as they jump to the left, narrowly avoiding the beams, and slashing Dora in the chest. Dora, in a great deal of pain, reaches up to her neck and touches her key, causing another pink light. Chara looks her in the eye and grins, pointing her knife toward her.
Chara: You foolish creature! Your little... tricks don't... work... on...
Their expression goes blank as their arms fall to their sides and they drop their knife. Dora cackles gleefully.
Dora-in-Grey: This is over! Your very mind and soul are MINE!!
Dora reaches down and picks up Chara's body, bringing it up to her face. She flicks Chara in the head with her finger, decapitating them, and throws their body into the void.
Dora, in a great deal of pain, reaches up to her neck and touches her key, causing another pink light. Chara looks her in the eye and grins, pointing her knife toward her.
Chara: When will you learn? Your tricks just don't work. I know everything you are ever going to do. The fact that you choose to fight me at all, instead of begging for your life is... laughable.
Dora, severely wounded, knowing she has to do something soon or else, closes her eyes, and begins to glow with a bright blue aura.
Dora-in-Grey: Human child, I am FAR from done!"
She fires lasers and then sends her vines after Chara, but they dodge every attack with seemingly very little effort. Growing desperate, she reaches down and flicks at Chara, only to get her finger cut off. She shrieks in pain and punches at Chara, not noticing that they've seemingly vanished.
Dora-in-Grey (absolutely seething): WHAT?!
Chara begins talking, revealing that they were behind her. Dora-in-Grey turns to look.
Chara: What, may I ask, drives you to keep fighting? Obviously, there is no way you can win. Why do you try? What point is there to doing what you do? Why not just give in, beg for mercy. I would have killed you much quicker. I've seen you fight. You're good. You could make a real name for yourself, but you instead decide to serve a master. Pathetic. This is why you, your whole kind, must be eradicated. That's fine, I grew bored with this world anyway.
Dora notices then that inky black spots are appearing all over her realm, and quickly expanding, until darkness consumes all of the Other Side, and all that is left are her and Chara.
Chara: Well... good game.
The darkness begins spreading to Dora-in-Grey's body; she is being ERASEd like the rest of her world. Holding her head high, she says,
Dora-in-Grey: At least I'm more beautiful than you will ever be.
Before she completely fades away. Chara is left standing in an empty void, devoid of all things except for a slow, quiet wind.
K.O.
Chara is seen coming out of the mural in the Phnom Nonh ruins, smiling maliciously at the world, while the Other Side is nothing but darkness.
Analysis[]
Boomstick: Holy crap! That was crazy! That little kid beat that crazy monster???
Wiz: Dora-in-Grey had Chara bested in many ways. She could pull people into her own world that she controls, giving her a huge advantage, as well as having a far more impressive arsenal.
Boomstick: It's true, Chara really only had a knife and a gun to fight with. I mean, there were other weapons, but why would they ever use anything less powerful?
Wiz: But this was much less of an easy win for Dora than this made it seem.
Boomstick: This was especially hard to figure out because both of them are heavily implied to have abilities we never see them use.
Wiz: That's very true. Can Dora-in-Grey use skills that Iron Maidens and Golden Girls, effectively less powerful versions of Dora, use in battle, like having control over her hair and being able to use it like skewers to stab at enemies, or trap opponents in her cage?
Boomstick: Can Chara stop time, like other users of DETERMINATION like Sans and Flowey? Since both of them possess less than Chara, it would seem logical to assume that they could.
Wiz: However, upon closer inspection, it's made apparent that none of these skills are really necessary anyway. Dora can use her vines instead of her hair and her necklace instead of her cage, and stopping time probably wouldn't have helped that much because they can't attack in stopped time and dodging isn't something Chara needs to be even better at.
Boomstick: So, with that out of the way, how do we determine who wins? Dora is super trippy, but Chara wins in terms of raw power.
Wiz: Really, it seemed the win should go to Dora-in-Grey. Shooting lasers as hot as lava seems like an instant-win move, as well as being able to mind control your opponent.
Boomstick: But Dora can win as many times as she wants. All that matters is the final CONTINUE.
Wiz: Exactly. Chara only has to win once to beat Dora, but Dora-in-Grey has to win hundreds of times to make Chara lose DETERMINATION and surrender to death.
Boomstick: But Dora-in-Grey can seal abilities, right? Can't she just take away Chara's DETERMINATION?
Wiz: Well, yes, she can. The only thing is that the effects of her seals don't persist after death. Every time Chara dies, they get their powers back.
Boomstick: And the same goes for her mind-control ability. She can't just force Chara to not come back to life, even if she actually knew what was going on, which she wouldn't. Not to mention that the effects of the Magic Key can be resisted by strong-willed individuals, and there is NO ONE more strong-willed than Chara.
Wiz: Ok, but can Chara actually get a kill through everything Dora has? This is an easy yes. Chara is insanely powerful. realistically, they would kill Dora after only one hit, even with a weapon as weak as the Stick.
Boomstick: And, Chara can kill people that exist in alternate planes of existence, like when they kill you, the player, after a genocide route. Chara could probably just kill Dora-in-Grey without ever entering the Other Side.
Wiz: All of this without even mentioning the fact that Chara can just delete all things in a universe from existence. That's literally unbeatable.
Boomstick: Yeah... you can't really beat someone who knows everything you're going to do before you do, and who can kill you without even touching you.
Wiz: Dora-in-Grey put up an excellent fight, but Chara is just unbeatable.
Boomstick: This was such a sweet victory! Cuz, you know, Chara likes chocolate.
Wiz: If you have to explain it, it isn't good. The winner is Chara Dreemurr.
Chara: You laugh, and keep laughing. It's SO funny, you can't stop. Tears run down your face.
