Celica vs Ophilia is a What-If? Death Battle written by Cheesypickles564 featuring Celica from Fire Emblem and Ophilia from Octopath Traveler.
Description[]
Fire Emblem vs Octopath Traveler! Once orphans, these two holy women found trust in the local god and became mighty warriors! Will Celica overshadow Ophilia, or will the Sacred Flame’s light be too much for Celica?
Interlude[]
Puppy: Celica, the Princess of Zofia.
Kitty: And Ophilia, the Order of the Flame’s cleric!
Puppy: Faith is a vital part in one’s life, whether it be towards your religion or political leader.
Kitty: And boy, do these too have a hella lot of it towards their religions! He’s Puppy and I’m Kitty.
Puppy: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win… a Death Battle.
“Celica Prays For Peace in DEATH BATTLE!”[]
(Cue: The Heritors of Arcadia)
Puppy: A long, long time ago, the continent of Valentia was co-ruled by the sibling gods, Duma and Mila.
Kitty: But just like all siblings do eventually, they came into some sort of immortal, war-starting conflict! Duma believed that all of humanity should strive to gain power, and Mila believed that mankind should strive for pleasure and peace.
Puppy: But to end to conflict, they agreed on a pact—Duma would control the lands to the north of Valentia, also titled Rigel, and Mila would rule the south, known as Zofia.
Kitty: But it was prophesied that far, far in the future, two children that bear the marks of both gods would unite Valentia once more and bring the continent to peace!
Puppy: One of those two children was Princess Anthiese, better known as Celica.
Kitty: Anthiese—er, Celica was born to a woman named Liprica and a legendary, but not for good reason, king of Zofia, Lima IV. Tragedy struck, however, and Celica’s mother died when she was young.
Puppy: The building housing many of Lima IV’s wives and children was burned to the ground, with Celica and her half-brother Conrad the only survivors. A legendary Zofian Knight named Mycen saved Celica from the flames and took her to Ram Village, his hometown.
Kitty: It was there she met Alm, Mycen’s grandson who, surprise-surprise, had Duma’s mark on his arm. The two would compare their unknowingly-powerful birthmarks and soon, Celica developed a biiiiig crush on Alm.
Puppy: Celica and the other children of Ram Village were taught swordsmanship by Mycen in order to protect themselves… and protecting themselves, they failed to do because a crony of the man who killed Lima made his way to Ram Village in an attempt to kill Celica. Mycen took Celica and fled the scene, with the latter promising Alm that they would see each other again…
Kitty: And now you know what time it is… timeskip! Celica had spent the rest of her childhood immersing herself in the teachings of Mila, but one fateful night, she had a dream about Alm’s death which had filled her with motivation to see Alm again! She went out to investigate crop shortages, but in reality, it was a facade for her to check on her beloved.
Puppy: But such a perilous journey couldn’t be taken without methods of protection—which Celica has in bulk!
Kitty: Celica’s signature sword is the Beloved Zofia, a weapon evolved from the Golden Dagger. It’s one of those cool blades that only some chosen-one can hold… can I get one, Puppy?
Puppy: Sigh… the sword is a treasure to the Zofian royal family, and has some cool perks that come with it. It can heal the user and allows the user to have access to magic.
Kitty: And believe me, this stuff ain’t just smoke and mirrors. Celica can channel her life force into her blade to deal heavy damage with combat arts! She’s also capable of using spells like Flamberge, which allows the user to attack twice as fast, Hexblade, a durability-surpassing strike of increased strength and her ultimate technique—Ragnarok Omega! That sounds like some sort of Power Ranger…
Puppy: The Ragnarok Omega is a spell that allows Celica to unleash a devastating amount of fire in an area of her choosing!
Kitty: Don’t try that at home… only you can prevent forest fires! Her biggest ace-in-the-hole is Mila’s Turnwheel, a magic amulet given to Celica by the goddess herself that can turn back time!
Puppy: She can also use magic that’s not generated by her sword; like Excalibur, a light-based spell that deals multiple critical hits, Seraphim, magic that does double the damage to monsters, Aura, a spell that coats the opponent in holy magic, and Ragnarok, a fire-based spell given to humanity by Mila herself! There’s also Bolganone, a less-powerful fire spell.
Kitty: These weapons would eventually help her make her way to her destination and meet up with Alm, with the two sharing some genuine moments together—until their opposing views set them apart once more.
Puppy: Returning her attention to her original goal, Celica arrived at the temple of Mila and rediscovered her past as Anthiese. With a nowhere-near-formal ceremony, Celica was crowned princess of Zofia once more, years after shedding her true identity.
Kitty: However, there’s trouble down in Rigel! Celica makes her way down to the Duma Tower so she can free Mila, who she had recently learned was captured. Reconciling with Alm, the band is back together, baby!
Puppy: …okay, Celica was soon faced with a problem—that problem in the form of Jedah, one of Duma’s priests, who told Celica how to free Mila. Jedah served as a foil to Celica, standing in her way and challenging her ideals. He believed that the world couldn’t survive without Duma.
Kitty: But God, was he wrong! He basically gaslighted Celica into believing that she could give her soul in exchange for Mila’s, which she did! Pffft…
Puppy: But Alm saved the day with his magic sword, successfully freeing Mila… but killing Celica in the process. Guilt came for him soon after, though that wouldn’t last long.
Kitty: Damn right! In a world with dragons and gods, death really isn’t too permanent, innit? Mila offered to use the last of her energy to revive Celica, bringing the princess back to life but slaying her in the process! How many life trades are there gonna be…? I’m confused…
Puppy: Alm and Celica had saved the kingdom, hand in hand! They married soon after and united Valentia once more!
Kitty: Celica may be a holy woman, but she’s really not a stranger to battle! Most of her strength comes from her speed, given that she can dodge lightning magic and meteor spells, not to mention that she can evade arrows from close range.
Puppy: She’s also incredibly tough. She’s capable of tanking blunt blows from opponents and, not to mention, literal meteor spells, though she would be left in pretty bad shape after an attack like that. Celica’s also superior to units that can smash through stone walls like cardboard. She’s even strong enough to cut through armor!
Kitty: She’s not flawless, though. Using her magic can harm her to an extent, and she’s also incapable of controlling her more powerful spells. But that doesn’t define a person—it’s their actions that do. Celica may be a holy woman, but in no way is she afraid to beat up any blasphemes!
Celica: “I love you so, Alm. We’ll be together now and forever.”
“The Sacred Flame Lights Ophilia’s Path in DEATH BATTLE!”[]
(Cue: Ophilia, The Cleric)
Puppy: A long, long time ago in the kingdom of Orsterra, a young child was orphaned as a result of a war. Lonely and afraid, this child turned to the church…
Kitty: And lucky for her, the Archbishop of the Flamesgrace Cathedral, Josef, adopted her!
Puppy: And for the years following, this girl and her sister, Lianna, dedicated their lives to the growth and prosperity of the church. This girl was Ophilia Clement.
Kitty: You see, Ophilia’s actual story begins before her sister’s set pilgrimage to bear the Sacred Flame, an “eternal flame” that the church worshipped, but tragedy soon struck.
Puppy: Archbishop Josef had suddenly become gravely ill, and Lianna lost the will to go on.
Kitty: You see, this dude claiming to be a merchant named Mattias was actually some psycho-lunatic who led a cult that worshipped a dark god named Galdera! Mattias was caught up in a tragedy that he believed the Sacred Flame could prevent in his past, and it’s failure to do so turned him against the church. Mattias decided he could wipe out the church with something simple, a bottle of poison.
Puppy: Ophilia soon took it upon herself to make a dangerous decision—she would take her sister’s place and perform the Kindling of the Sacred Flame.
Kitty: Ophilia embarked on her treacherous journey with a heart full of courage, and maybe a little bit of fear. The first stop on her bible road-trip was the Cave of Origin, a spooooooooky, mysterious cave which held Aelfric’s Lanthorn, a tool she would use to rekindle the flames in the other churches.
Puppy: She ran into the rocky guardian of the flame, however, and after a long duel, she struck it down and was deemed worthy of becoming the Flamebearer.
Kitty: Acknowledging that the upcoming quest would require her full tenacity and will, Ophilia continued on her pilgrimage… but she really wouldn’t get far without her magic at the ready!
Puppy: Being a cleric, Ophilia’s main skills are in healing and protection. Her first spell is the cleverly named Heal Wounds spell, which mends the wounds of herself and her allies. She also has the Heal More spell at her disposal, which restores more health than the Heal Wounds spell, but in turn takes a lot more effort. One of her support skills, Saving Grace, is also capable of healing her or an ally beyond their maximum health capacity. Despite mainly being a healer, Ophilia still has some offensive capabilities.
Kitty: Yeah! She has multiple light-based combat spells, like the Holy Light, which inflicts heavy light damage on an opponent. There’s also the Luminescence… which, to be completely honest, is just the Holy Light but bigger AND better! The Holy Light deals more individual damage, and Luminescence is used to take out large groups. And if a battle goes on for too long, she can activate powerful Boost attacks, which are her basic attacks but more powerful!
Puppy: There’s the Sheltering Veil, which lessens damage from elemental attacks and the Reflective Veil which nullifies elemental damage altogether, and finally, the Revive, which can bring a fallen ally back to life.
Kitty: Jeez, she has something like that under her belt! I could really use a ‘revive’ for my will to live…
Puppy: …I really think you should get that checked.
Kitty: And I really think we should move on with the analysis, eh?
Puppy: …with these powerful spells at her disposal, Ophilia continued the pilgrimage, eventually arriving at the church in Saintsbridge and kindling the flame there.
Kitty: Only a few more to go! Ophilia made her way to Goldshore to rekindle the flame there, but ran into our good ol’ psycho-cultist buddy, Mattias, who she hadn’t known the whole, y’know, cultist thing about.
Puppy: Ophilia had run into a bit of a roadblock at Goldshore too, with her being given information that cultists had taken a bishop’s daughter as a hostage.
Kitty: Ophilia took the bait and went into the Seaside Grotto, rescuing the girl and rekindling the flame! She headed back to Goldshore, only to meet Lianna there.
Puppy: Lianna revealed that their father was dead, and that she saw the Sacred Flame as a possible way of bringing Josef back. She drugged Ophilia and stole the Lanthorn.
Kitty: Oh no, cliffhanger! …just kidding, this story doesn’t end here. In pursuit of her sister, Ophilia arrives in Wispermill, meeting up with Mattias again. Good ol’ psycho-cultist revealed his true identity and his plot to bring Galdera back with the Lanthorn! He soon threw Ophilia in jail—but she was quickly freed by Lianna, who was still high on believing that Josef could’ve been brought back.
Puppy: Ophilia sabotaged the ceremony, and killed Mattias, bringing Lianna back to her senses. Ophilia and Lianna returned to Flamesgrace and took charge of the church, hoping to successfully fill their father’s shoes.
Kitty: Now, onto feats! Ophilia may be a pacifist for the most part, but she’s certainly got many skills in battle! She’s capable of fighting and taking hits from Galdera, who has fought the gods who created the continent. Ophilia’s hella tanky, being on the same footing defensively as Olberic, a meat-shield, battle hardened warrior.
Puppy: She’s also incredibly fast, given that she’s capable of dodging arrows. Though, that’s not to say she’s perfect.
Kitty: Ophilia’s a holy woman, which means she’s incredibly reluctant to fight unless the situation absolutely demands it. She also has low energy for special attacks, meaning she’d have to spend more time on defense in a battle.
Puppy: But through all troubles, Ophilia will stand strong, and hold the Sacred Flame high to light others’ paths!
Ophilia: “Don’t despair, Lianna. We are together in this. We will find a way.”
Intermission[]
Puppy: Alright, the combatants are set, and we've run the data through all possibilities. Feel free to vote for who you believe will win in the poll:https://strawpoll.com/polls/PKgl3VERQnp
Kitty: But now! IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLLLLLLLLLLE!!!!
Pre-Fight[]
The day was a cold day in Flamesgrace, as it always was. Snow and winds were abundant, and yet this was the norm Ophilia Clement had grown accustomed to—the norm she enjoyed.
Standing atop the hill overlooking the cathedral, Ophilia says, reminiscing about her past… her father… her wishful thinking is cut short as a soft, but unexpected voice comes from behind.
“Excuse me… are you Sister Ophilia.”
Ophilia turns around and sees a hooded figure, the figure’s cowl sprinkled with snow. Ophilia replies, “Yes. It’s a pleasure to meet you, uh…”
The figure chuckles. “Oh, right.” Lifting her hood, the figure is revealed to be a young, regally clothed woman with long, orange-reddish hair.
“I am Princess Celica of Zofia, and I’ve come to ask something of you…” Celica halted, as if her next request was something she wasn’t too confident about.
Ophilia lowers her staff, which she had at the ready in case of a threat. “And what is that?” Ophilia’s original look of suspicion was replaced with a cherry smile.
“I’d like to spar!” Celica says, catching Ophilia off-guard. “I’m not normally one for violence, but when I heard that you helped destroy a dark god… I knew that I’d have to become stronger to protect my people! As someone with such authority in a church, I’d think you’d feel the same, no?”
Ophilia ponders the request, and after a moment, she raises her staff, preparing to cast a spell.
“If it truly is what you want… then spar we shall.”
Celica readies the Beloved Zofia, her sword, with a determined spirit.
“And may the Sacred Flame shine light on both our paths!” Ophilia proudly declares!
(Cue: Endless Fate - Brandon Yates)
FIGHT![]
Celica leaps forward and swings her blade at Ophilia, who barely dodges by stumbling backwards. Regaining her posture, Ophilia raises her staff in the air.
“My turn now!” She heartily exclaims, casting Holy Light. The ground underneath Celica begins to glow, and the Princess of Zofia dodges in time to escape the blast of light that came from underneath her feet.
“You know, there’s a lot I could learn from you.” Celica states, sliding the Beloved Zofia back into it’s scabbars and moving her hands into a spell-casting position.
Casting the Ragnarok spell, Celica raises her arms in the air and creates a flame which she soon throws down at Ophilia, who casts the Reflective Veil. Ophilia’s spell blocks the flames and administers them to her left and right, melting the snow. Celica’s spell was landed with such force, though, that it was enough to push Ophilia backwards, her boots digging deep into the snow.
“Aelfric, give me strength!”
Ophilia casts Luminescence, which creates a gigantic burst of light that sends Celica flying backwards, the trees in the way of the blast swaying backwards as well.
Celica’s flight backwards is stopped by a large boulder that she smashes her back against. “Gah!” As she stumbles back to her feet, Celica sees Ophilia use her Guide ability on a swordsman. The cleric turns around and takes off towards Celica, with the swordsman following close behind. “I’ll have to keep pace with you…” the Princess of Zofia sighs, wielding her sword once more.
“Brave one, strike with me.” Ophilia orders calmly. The swordsman leaps forwards and delivers a downward slash to Celica, who parries the blow.
“Hyah!” Celica exclaims, hitting the pommel of her sword against the swordsman’s face with enough force to knock the warrior to the ground unconscious. As soon as she lands this blow, she turns around to Celica, who was preparing to cast a spell. Casting Seraphim, Celica generates a powerful burst of light around Ophilia, stunning her! The Princess of Zofia takes this chance to swing her sword across Ophilia’s abdomen, leaving a bloody gash.
“Uggghhhh…” Ophilia stumbles back and waves her hand, healing the wound with such ease that Celica was left shocked.
.“You’re certainly ruler material!” Ophilia compliments her opponent. “And while this spar has no more reason to go on… let us continue! I may need the training myself as well.”
Celica grins at Ophilia, holding her blade close. “Thank you for believing so! I will respect your wishes, lady Ophilia.”
Ophilia casts Luminescence once more, but Celica was certainly prepared! Using the Hexblade to cleave through the burst of light Luminescence had created, Celica swings her blade at Ophilia, who blocks the deft blow with her staff, which was durable enough to deflect the blow.
Celica’s quickly formed strategy meant she was also prepared for this, however, and she casts another Ragnarok behind Ophilia, a burst of fire erupting from behind her and blasting her into the air!
Celica points her hand towards Ophilia and casts Excalibur, creating an incredibly sharp whirlwind around Ophilia. The cleric quickly emits the Sheltering Veil, which protects her from each sharp swipe of Excalibur and sends the blows in discordant locations, each one hitting and cutting down a tree.
“I’d expect no less from you!” Celica chuckles, her cheery attitude still remaining intact. Raising the Beloved Zofia, Celica casts Aura over Ophilia, conjuring a giant tower of light-infused rings above Ophilia, which crash down on the cleric and create a giant explosion of light that melts the surrounding snow!
Aura subsides, and despite the heavy damage the attack dealt on the surrounding landscape, Ophilia was left nearly unscathed, her previously conjured Reflective Veil shielding her from the damages.
“Now I’ll show you the true extent of the Flame’s power!”
Ophilia casts Holy Light once more, conjuring a blast of ethereal light that darts towards Celica, who barely deflects it with the Beloved Zofia. Celica points her sword towards the cleric in response and casts Ragnarok once more, in the form of three fireballs that all bolt towards Ophilia. “Stay back!” The Princess of Zofia yells as she unleashes her fiery onslaught.
Ophilia raises her staff in an attempt to cast a spell of protection, but given the mass amount of energy used to protect herself from Aura, the cleric fails and is quickly smothered by fireballs, each one dispersing on contact and coating Ophilia in flames.
Ophilia is pushed to the ground by the blow and soon notices the flames. “Ow…hot! Hot!” Ophilia frantically piles snow in order to put out the flames—which she does succeed in doing, albeit after a lot of effort. Stumbling to her feet, she casts the cleverly named Heal More spell, restoring her condition to as it was before.
Celica watches as Ophilia staggers to her feet and considers her next move, deciding to use her Holy Light spell, which she had used to her advantage earlier. Casting the spell, Ophilia conjures multiple small but powerful bursts of light around Celica.
“I can only envy your strength, sister Ophilia…” Celica remarks, swinging her blade around and cleaving many of the smaller bursts of light in two. “But try to keep u-“ the young Princess’ boasts are cut short by one of the light spells Ophilia casted nailing Celica in the back and pushing her to the ground. The Beloved Zofia slips out of Celica’s hands and plants itself in the snow.
Celica quickly recovers, brushing the snow off of her shoulders. “Ready or not…” Ophilia chuckles, casting Luminescence once more. “Here I come, Princess Celica!”
Celica attempts to counter the burst of light around her with Ragnarok, the flames pushing against Ophilia’s attack in a splendor of yellow light. Celica puts more effort into her spell, allowing her flames to overpower Luminescence, the same flames dispersing the light spell and darting towards Ophilia.
Ophilia desperately casts the Reflective Veil, which is easily overpowered by Ragnarok, causing the cleric to be hit by the full force of the spell and sent barreling backwards. “Oof!”
Ophilia’s momentum is halted by her staff, which she stakes in the ground to stop herself from going too far. Behind her, sounds of snarling are able to be heard, the creatures’ red eyes barely visible in the dark atmosphere or Flamesgrace. The fight had awaken a herd of Snow Marmots from their slumber.
“Oh no… Sacred Flame, please light the way…” Ophilia whimpers.
(Cue: The Fiend’s Rapture - Fire Emblem Echoes)
The horde of Snow Marmots soon erupt from their sleeping place, darting across the snow-swept environment.
Celica looks towards Ophilia, both shocked and confused. “What is that…?!” Her voice raises as she catches notice of the horde of Marmots.
Celica smirks, getting ready to cast another spell. “You’ve brought an army? I… really didn’t see that coming!”
“They’re… they’re not MINE!” Ophilia yells casting Luminescence at both Celica and the Marmots, with all of them being blasted away from the cleric.
Celica lands a few feet away from Ophilia, pointing her sword towards her opponent. The relentless horde of Marmots, despite the damage Luminescence dealt, still rush towards the cleric and Celica, by extension.
Celica ignores the horde of vicious creatures and swings her blade at Ophilia multiple times, who blocks with her staff. “We mustn’t let these creatures get in the way of our battle… we truly must see who is stronger!”
Ophilia, who stops to bat a Marmot away with her staff, turns towards Celica. “Agreed!” The cleric states, casting Holy Light and repelling a few Marmots with a smaller burst of light.
Ophilia attempts to cast a spell to attack Celica, too, but the young Princess quickly knocks the staff out of the cleric’s hand and casts Ragnarok, pushing Ophilia back with flames. The Marmots, however, soon rush towards Celica, swarming her!
Ophilia casts Holy Light on the Marmots once more, causing the herd to disperse and all of the Marmots, which were furiously attacking Celica, exploded into purple mist due to their damages.
Celica, wanting to prove herself even further, leaps forward and uses Hexblade on Ophilia, slashing at her and making her stagger backwards. Ophilia counters by not casting a spell, but swinging her staff at Celica, which doesn’t do much damage—but certainly catches her off-guard!
“My apologies.” Ophilia chuckles, quickly casting Holy Light on Celica, who quickly counters by destroying the spell with her sword.
“Flamberge!” Celica casts another spell, allowing her to swing her sword faster than Ophilia could track!
SHINK!
SHINK!
CLANK!
SHINNNK!
Ophilia manages to block each blow with her staff, with her soon forcing it forward and swinging it down at Celica, who parries with another blow of her blade. The two are caught in a bladelock, sword-to-staff. The two are breathing heavily from exhaustion.
“That wasn’t enough…? How’s THIS!” Celica exclaims, putting all of her effort into overpowering Ophilia’s staff, succeeding and disarming Ophilia, the cleric’s staff darting out of her hands and falling into the snow.
“Now let’s finish this!” Celica yells, using the Hexblade on Ophilia! Moments before the blade can make contact, Ophilia raises her hands in a praying motion.
“Sacred Flame… protect me…” she prays, hoping for Aelfric to bless her…
Using the little energy she had left, Ophilia casts Holy Light on her opponent, causing a beam of light to come down from the sky and envelop Celica, preventing her from dealing a finishing blow! Taking the chance to recover her strength, Ophilia eats an Inspiriting Plum, replenishing her magic. She turns towards her opponent, who was currently being damaged by Holy Light.
“I mustn’t fall here!” Celica yells with vigor, escaping the blast of light and thrusting her gleaming blade at Ophilia, catching the cleric off-guard and causing the Holy Light to subside, leaving the cleric vulnerable.
Celica’s attack causes a gash to appear on Ophilia’s arm, but due to her impressive tenacity, the cleric remains standing. Grabbing her fallen staff from the snow and wielding it once more, the cleric heals her own wounds and swings the staff at Celica, who blocks with her sword. The young Princess in turn sways her blade rapidly at Ophilia, who can barely block with her staff.
Celica quickly casts Bolganone, causing the ground under Ophilia to slowly crack and heat up. Before the cleric can figure out what was happening, a pillar of flame bolts upward, smothering Ophilia with it’s heat!
Celica leaps forward and swings her sword to the side, cleaving her own flames in half and greatly damaging Ophilia, who stumbles backwards from the blow.
“Gaaaaah!” Ophilia gasps, recollecting her posture. She casts Heal Wounds once more, mending her multiple wounds and patching each blood covered gash.
“If you’ll excuse me…” Ophilia chuckles in her soft voice. “I call on the Flame’s light!”
Ophilia casts Luminescence, causing pillars of light to rain down around Celica, smashing into the ground and causing the nearby snow to melt and disperse.
As the multiple blows of Luminescence close in on Celica, she reaches her hands out and casts Excalibur, summoning strong winds that combat Ophilia’s spell, severing the pillars of light and causing the cleric’s spell to abate.
Excalibur’s razor sharp winds also dart towards Ophilia, who raises her staff and conjures another Holy Light spell, causing a smaller pillar of light to hit the ground and disintegrate Excalibur’s sharp winds.
Celica follows up with another Hexblade, slashing at Ophilia, who was attempting to cast another spell. The cleric staggers backwards and clutches her bleeding arm in pain.
“Flame… guide me true!” Ophilia exclaims, powering through her pain to cast one more Luminescence, which has enough power behind it to envelop Celica, pushing the young princess into the air, her sword almost slipping out of her grasp.
“No… no… I must continue!” Celica yells, her grasp on the Beloved Zofia growing tighter. Celica reaches for Mila’s Turnwheel as she is slowly damaged by Luminescence.
“Mila, I’m counting on you!”
Celica activates the Turnwheel, sending her back to the beginning of the battle…
(Cue: Endless Fate, again)
(Location: The Beginning of the Battle - Flamesgrace)
Ophilia raises her staff and exclaims, “May the Sacred Flame light—OOF!”
She’s interrupted by Celica, who swings her blade at the cleric. Ophilia barely dodges the blow, but she almost slips on the ice.
“You—you’re messing with time…” Ophilia notices the Turnwheel in Celica’s hand. “That means I’ll have to play dirty too!”
Ophilia’s dialogue was enough to distract Celica in order for the cleric to cast Holy Light again, this time the spell deals critical damage to Celica, who is forced backward by the force of the spell.
“Urgggghhh…Mila…guide my hand!” Celica yells in-between breaths. She narrowly dodges a swing of Ophilia’s staff and follows up with an incredibly speedy forward thrust with her sword. The young princess’ blow greatly damages Ophilia, who trips forward but barely catches herself with her staff.
“Aura!” Celica yells, casting the spell of the same name, which summons multiple rings composed solely of light that ram into Ophilia, creating a giant burst of light that launches the cleric into the air and onto the top of one of Flamesgrace’s buildings.
Celica leaps towards Ophilia and conjures another Ragnarok, which spreads across the rooftop of the building. Ophilia manages to redirect the flames with a perfectly timed Sheltering Veil, which is also destroyed by a downward slash from Celica.
“It’s over!” Celica exclaims, casting Flamberge! She unleashes five consecutive slashes to Ophilia’s chest, which greatly harms the cleric.
Ophilia stumbles backwards, being pushed even closer to the previously conjured flames. She blocks another sword blow from Celica with her staff, before leaning forward and pushing Celica back.
Ophilia slams her staff into the bricks on the top of the building, conjuring Luminescence and creating a burst of light that blows the top off the building and heavily damages Celica!
The two are blown to the left and right due to the strength of Luminescence’s blast, both of them landing on buildings adjacent to the previous structure. They both raise their weapons and prepare a final spell.
“RAGNAROK OMEGA!” Celica yells, raising her sword in the air.
“LUMINESCENCE!” Ophilia responds, holding her staff close.
“Mila…”
“Sacred Flame…”
“BLESS ME FOR THE FUTURE OF MY LAND!” The two yell in sync, leaping towards each other. Celica casts Ragnarok Omega, which creates a massive burst of flames that spreads around the area. The flames close in incredibly quickly, catching Ophilia and giving her multiple burns before she can cast her spell.
“I apologize, sister Ophilia!” Celica yells, wielding the Beloved Zofia. As the flames ensnare Ophilia, Celica leaps towards the cleric, thrusting her sword forward!
Before the blow can be dealt though, Ophilia concentrates, clutching her staff tighter. A mystical blue aura surrounds her as she prepares to cast one more spell.
“Aelfric, SHINE FORTH!”
Ophilia’s boost activates as she casts Luminescence, which overpowers the flames and blasts Celica, her sword slipping out of her grasp!
“Alm… I’m sorry…!” Celica laments as Luminescence hits her body, eventually knocking the unlucky princess in the air.
The clash of spells subsides in a splendor of fire and light, which ends in an explosion midair, sending Ophilia descending to the ground below.
As the cleric lands on the snow, she bows her head in respect.
“May the Sacred Flame offer you peace, Princess Celica.”
KO!
- Ending Screen A: Ophilia is seen mending the wounds of her previously guided swordsman. The cleric casts Heal Wounds, which allows the swordsman to stumble back to his feet.
- Ending Screen B: The Beloved Zofia, Celica’s sword, is laying on top of one of Flamesgrace’s buildings—it’s owner floating upwards unconscious in the river, Humiliated and humbled! Possibly waking up later not so happy.
Results[]
Kitty: How did that happen…? I thought Ophilia was a healer, not a fighter…!
Puppy: Yes, but this result relied on much more. In truth, this was a very close battle, with both combatants having their own advantages.
Kitty: Yeah! Celica was certainly the faster of the two, with her having multiple feats of evading light-based spells and even meteors! She was also stronger with her feats of breaking stone walls and taking out armored knights with few blows.
Puppy: But Ophilia was considerably more durable, given that she boasts the second highest durability of the travelers, who were all capable of tanking blows from Galdera—meaning that despite Celica’s slight edge in power, Ophilia was too tough for her to put down.
Kitty: Not to mention the fact that the Reflective Veil and Ophilia’s naturally high elemental defense kinda screwed over most of Celica’s spells, which were element-based.
Puppy: Though Celica did have access to more physical weaponry than Ophilia did, meaning that she certainly could overwhelm her, but given Ophilia’s massively more powerful healing magic, that wasn’t likely.
Kitty: Ophilia’s magic was also a lot more convenient. While Celica could certainly dish out powerful spells, the magic in Octopath is incapable of missing, meaning that Celica’s strength advantage wouldn’t really come into play if Ophilia could keep her overwhelmed with multiple spells from afar.
Puppy: Celica was certainly a worthy leader, but Ophilia’s durability, better magic and better self-sustainability proved too much for the Princess of Zofia.
Kitty: Ophilia certainly Ael-fricked over Celica’s chances of victory and Ragna-rocked her world.
Puppy: The winner is Ophilia Clement.
Next Time on Death Battle![]
Old Man Logan: I will never hurt... another living soul... you can do what you like to me, boy... but I refuse to strike you back.
The Last Ronin: I’m sorry, Father, I failed… please forgive me…

- The connections between Celica and Ophilia are orphaned holy women who, though they bear great affection for their childhood friends (Alm and Lianna) they would be forced to leave their side. Though their faith is initially strong, a dark figure with twisted albeit well-meaning goals (Jedah and Mattias) acts as their foil and stands against them, forcing them to question their own actions. They would ultimately decide to put their faith into the strength of humanity and their bonds with each other rather than some third party divine source, slaying their foil and halting the rise of an embittered dark god (Duma and Galdera)
- The soundtrack name for this Death Battle would be “Ascended Flames,” referencing Ascended Celica from Fire Emblem Heroes and the Sacred Flame of Aelfric, the deity Ophilia worships.
