History[]

Originally a captain of the Baron Kingdom's Red Wings, Cecil began his road to redemption when he and fellow Red Wing Kain were sent to a mountain village with a ring, that eventually activated, destroying the village in the process. Though he and Kain were separated, Cecil survived, taking in a young girl named Rydia under his care until they ran into an ill Rosa an old sage named Tellah. Through his knowledge, Cecil was able to cure the sick Rosa (who apparently deserted the kingdom to search for Cecil upon hearing the destruction of the mountain village), eventually making their way up to another destroyed kingdom, where it's last remaining heir, Edward, survived. As the destruction of the kingdom came at the cost of the destruction of Tellah's daughter, the old sage deserted the party to seek revenge against Golbez, the evil sorcerer that orchestrated the destruction. Though Edward joins the party as a result, they also ran into a tough monk named Yang in their adventures. They moved to Fabul, where Golbez intends to steal the next Crystal for his plans for world domination, only to run into a brainwashed Kain in the process. After failing to stop Kain, Cecil sails for Baron, but loses many of his party members in the process as a storm caused by Leviathan separates the party, leaving Cecil alone. Running into a town whose populace knows him, Cecil agrees to undertake redemption, being accompanied by a pair of young mages named Palom and Parom, to Mt. Ordeals, where he became a Paladin, absolving his powers as a Dark Knight. However, since they also run into Tellah, who rejoins the party, they go through a secret passage that instantly takes them to Baron, encountering a brainwashed Yang, whom they rescued, and Cid, Cecil's engineer friend. Going to the Castle of Baron, they meet up with the Captain of the Guards, only to run to a trap orchestrated by Cagnazzo, prompting Palom and Parom to sacrifice themselves for the party to live. They meet up with Kain, who gives Cecil an ultimatum: the Earth Crystal for Rosa's life in Troia. There, he found a recovering Edward, and embarks on a quest on a cave, whose magnetic properties prevent Cecil and his party from using metal weapons; thus losing to it's inhabitant, the Dark Elf. However, at the mercy of the Dark Elf, Edward gathers his strength to give Cecil the power he needs to defeat the Dark Elf, thus earning the Earth Crystal. After obtaining the Crystal, and giving it to Golbez in exchange for Rosa, the latter reneges, prompting Tellah to sacrifice himself to bring down Golbez.
