- The connections between Carl and Squidward are that both are grouchy, unlucky, and rather selfish neighbors who just want to live in solitude but have the misfortune of living next to a chaotic group (Master Shake, Meatwad and Frylock; SpongeBob and Patrick) and living in a corrupt, dysfunctional town with little to no income. As a result, this leaves them very pessimistic and they often find themselves getting mad at the heroes for interrupting their peace. Despite being extremely lazy, sarcastic and hopeless, however, they do take a lot of pride in their hobbies and have even been nice towards said group a few times.
They are also scared shitless of the word "tonight" due to a life-changing event occurring a few hours after someone said that word to them.
