History[]
Brian Braddock was a graduate student in physics, and was working under Dr. Travis at the Darkmoor Research Centre. He was present when Reaver and other mercenaries raided the Research Centre, planning to kill the scientists there. Brian escaped on his motorbike, planning to get help, but was run off the road. Bleeding to death, Brian went to Merlin and his daughter, Roma, who told him that he could live if he became Britain's next great champion. Brian was offered a choice: The Amulet of Right (Life), or The Sword of Might (Death). Brian didn't fancy himself a warrior, so he chose the Amulet. He then became Captain Britain, complete with the costume, super powers, and a staff (The staff would later be replaced by the Star Sceptre, which would let Brian fly). Reaver, the mercenary trying to kill the scientists, then arrived and claimed the Sword of Might. He transformed into a knight with superhuman strength, but Captain Britain defeated him nonetheless. This was Brian's first challenge as a superhero, and he succeeded with courage and skill.
