Let's finish this!
~ Captain America in his battle against Batman

For as long as I can remember, I just wanted to do what was right. I guess I'm not quite sure what that is anymore. And I thought I could throw myself back in: follow orders, serve. It's just not the same.
~ Captain America

We must all live in the real world... and sometimes that world can be pretty grim. But it is the [American] Dream... the hope... that makes the reality worth living. In the early 1940's, I made a personal pledge to uphold the Dream... And as long as the Dream remains even partially unfulfilled, I cannot abandon it!
~ Captain America

Attention all S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, this is Steve Rogers. You're heard a lot about me over the last few days. Some of you were even ordered to hunt me down. But I think it's time to tell the truth. S.H.I.E.L.D. is not what we thought it was. It's been taken over by HYDRA. Alexander Pierce is their leader. The S.T.R.I.K.E. and Insight crew are HYDRA as well. I don't know how many more, but I know they're in the building. They could be standing right next to you. They almost have what they want. Absolute control. They shot Nick Fury. And it won't end there. If you launch those helicarriers today, HYDRA will be able to kill anyone that stands in their way. Unless we stop them. I know I'm asking a lot. But the price of freedom is high. It always has been. And it's a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not.
~ Captain America revealing that there are agents of HYDRA infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America is a protagonist from Marvel Comics. He is one of the most well-known superheroes. He previously fought Batman in the 36th episode of DEATH BATTLE!, Batman VS Captain America. He also fought Guile in an episode of One Minute Melee.

  • Dependent on his shield [3]
    • Iron Man proved that Cap's legs are relatively vulnerable compared to his upper-body; as his shield is too small to protect them.
    • His shield is vulnerable to molecular manipulation and godlike magic; has been destroyed by Molecule Man, Thanos (with the Infinity Gauntlet), Dr. Doom (with the powers of the Beyonder), Thor (with the Thor Force) and The Serpent (strengthen by the fear of the Earth).
  • Body armor is very light; sometimes depicted as having little to no resistance against bullets or knives
  • Can be overpowered easily, as his physique is relatively more limited compared to other superhumans
  • While his martial art skills are impressive, Cap can still lose to martial artists who are on-par or superior to him; like Taskmaster [4].
  • His Patriotic colors are terrible at camouflage.
  • Needs to steal cars for long-distance travel [5].
  • Despite being Captain AMERICA; he fought Richard Nixon and caused his death [6].
    • He also rejected the AMERICAN Superhuman Registration Act; thus technically becoming a criminal in the eyes of the US government.

Alternate Personas[]

Nomad[]

Nomad Steve Rogers

Steve Rogers as Nomad

During the 1970s, Steve Rogers became disillusioned with the United States and decided to give up his role as the symbol of that nation. Hanging up his shield and star-spangled uniform, he instead donned a blue and yellow uniform and called himself the Nomad. Later, Steve decided to go back to being Captain America.

While fighting crime as the Nomad, Steve has the same abilities as he does as Captain America, except for not having the shield. One weakness he does have as Nomad, though, is that he has been known to trip over his cape!

Trivia[]

  • Captain America's shield is directly referencing the Liberty Shield used by several US depictions of Lady Liberty.
  • Captain America is the fourth-oldest character on Death Battle, debuting in 1941.
  • Captain America is the first combatant to face against a previous DEATH BATTLE! contestant that lost.
  • Captain America is the fourth Marvel comics character on Death Battle.
  • Captain American is the third Marvel character to face a DC comics opponent, the first being Rogue, the second being Spider-Man, the fourth being Deadpool, the fifth being Iron Man, the sixth being Hawkeye, and the seventh being Quicksilver.
    • Both Captain America and Spider-Man faced Batman. The difference is that Spider-Man won while Captain America lost.
  • Captain America is the first Marvel combatant to lose a Death Battle, with the second being Beast, the third being Wolverine, and the fourth being Quicksilver.
    • He's also the first Marvel character to lose to a DC character, the second being Quicksilver.
  • Captain America's sprite is taken from Capcom's Versus series and originates from 1995's Marvel Super Heroes, with recycled voice clips from Marvel vs. Capcom 3, done by Brian Bloom.
  • The "Secretly a habitual car thief" tidbit references how in some Captain America movies (such as the 1990 movie and Winter Soldier), he usually has to steal cars to get to certain locations.
  • Despite being killed by Batman in his Death Battle, Captain America appears again in Flash VS Quicksilver for no explained reason, and then just disappeared completely after the beginning of the fight. Since Batman has died twice so far; it is assumed that most fights are in their unique canon, unless directly stated otherwise.
  • Captain America is also the fifth Death Battle Combatant to be featured on The Desk of Death Battle hosted by Jocelyn the Intern herself.
  • In addition to his Death Battle and One Minute Melee episodes, Captain America also had cameos in the OMM episode Goku vs Sonic and the DBX episode Donald Trump vs Hillary Clinton.
  • The Fate vs Strange Q&A officially stated that: Captain America is not allowed to use the Infinity Gauntlet in a rematch against Batman. This is because; while Cap did occasionally possess and use the Gauntlet, it was only temporarily and the IG is not part of Cap's standard arsenal. Also, it would give Cap a stupidly absurd and biased advantage against Batman.
