Trivia[]

  • The connections between Cú Chulainn and Kyoko Sakura are that both are iconic, spear-wielding warriors of genre-defining anime represented by a primary colour (Blue and Red), whose life was destined to be short due to circumstances beyond their control (Cú being foretold to die young, and Homura manipulating the events of the series). Their lives are defined by the tragic sufferings they endured, especially involving the loss of their family (Cú being forced to kill his own son and Kyoko's father murdering her entire family), and at the end of their lives, despite the manipulation of evil forces (Medb, and later Kirei, and Homura), they would go out in a heroic blaze of glory (Cú defeated an army before his demise, and either holds off Gilgamesh for 12 hours, kills Kirei in revenge and frees Rin, or duels against Cursed Arm Hassan depending on the route, and Kyoko sacrificed her life to take down Sayaka's Witch form). During the events of the main story, their souls would be placed in a container (Lancer Class and Soul Gem), which brought forth their existence under a new designation (Servant and Magical Girl), in order to allow them to fight against others of their kind. They were originally trained by a more experienced mentor (Scáthach and Mami Tomoe) before leaving to pursue their own path, and they possess a contrasting rivalry with heroic figures represented by the opposite colour (Archer and Sayaka), sharing opposing viewpoints and moral standards with them on heroism and pragmatism, which they would clash over. And at the end of their story, the main protagonist (Shirou and Madoka) was able to prevent the evil being which threatened the planet (Angra Mainyu and Walpurgisnacht) from destroying the world, in part due to their sacrifice.
    • Furthermore, Cú matches the ideals that Sayaka believes in, whereas Archer represents the ideals which Kyoko portrays. The battle between these two can be seen as a spiritual succession of the rivalry both possess within their respective series.
