Description[]

Which of these jacked-up super bugs will dominate in this fight?

Intro[]

Boomstick: To us humans, bugs are feeble, little creatures that can be destroyed easily, but with these bugs, you're gonna need more than cans of bug spray. Like with Buzzwole, the Swollen Pokemon.

Wiz: And The Tick, the muscular but dumb superhero.

Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a DEATH BATTLE!

Buzzwole[]

Wiz: In the world of Pokemon, there are many creatures of all sizes.

Boomstick: One group of these Pokemon are called Ultra Beasts.

Wiz: According to legends on Alola, Ultra Beasts are frightening creatures appearing from wormholes. These appearances are unexpected to residents and even the Ultra Beasts themselves. This makes them combative. The legend also says that the guardian deities that protect Alola would fight these Ultra Beasts.

Boomstick: You mean the Tapus?

Wiz: What?

Boomstick: You know. Tapu Koko, Tapu Fini, Tapu Bulu, and Tapu Lele?

Wiz: I'm... surprised that you know their names.

Boomstick: Well yeah. I use those.. Nemono-whatchumacallits.

Wiz: Mnemonics.

Boomstick: Oh be quiet.

WIz: There are 11 Ultra Beasts to date.

Boomstick: Like this electric tree, this bamboo shoot spaceship thing, and this big black and yellow dude with lots of arms.

Wiz: These creatures possess incredible power, but the Beast we'll talk about is nicknamed UB-02 Absorption better known as Buzzwole

Boomstick: Oh my goodness! Look at that! That looks like a mosquito that took steroids! He’s so buff!

Wiz: I suppose that's why he's called the Swollen Pokemon. The Buzzwole is a bug and Fighting type Pokemon with great attack and defense stats. It's defense stats are so great that it has the biggest defense stats among Bug type and Fighting type Pokemon.

Popup: Buzzwole's size makes it the heaviest of the Bug and Fighting types and the tallest Fighting type Pokemon.

Boomstick: Buzzwole can also suck the energy out of anybody, even Pokemon.

Wiz: This triggers a chemical reaction within Buzzwole and enhances his muscles.

Boomstick: So this Pokemon can use this energy to strengthen himself? It’s like a mosquito bully feeding of the fears of the mosquito nerds.

Wiz: Sure. Buzzwole is also said to have veins as strong as steel and a proboscis as hard as diamond and he can fly.

Boomstick: Wait. He can fly? How come he isn’t a Flying type?

WIz: We'll never know for sure.

Boomstick: The Buzzwole incorporates punches in its moves like Comet Punch, Dynamic Punch, Focus Punch, and Dynamic Punch.

WIz: Buzzwole also has moves to increases his attack and defense stats like Harden and Bulk Up and can counter attacks with Counter. He can use Leech Life to recover health by draining the target's blood.

Boomstick: My favorite move is Reversal. In the rare occasion which Buzzwole is on low HP, he can use this move. It’s the best to use because Reversal is stronger when the user’s health is low.

Wiz: Didn't you hear what I said?

Boomstick: Maybe. Dunno.

Wiz: It can also taunt with those big muscles of his by striking bodybuilder poses.

Popup: It is unsure if Buzzwole is trying to boast or if it is a threat when it poses.

Boomstick: Well, he is pretty powerful. He’s strong enough to overpower the likes of Machamp, Rhyperior, and Pangoro.

Popup: For reference Pangoro can break telephone poles, Rhyperior can throw rock like missiles, and Machamp can push mountains with one arm and punch at megaton levels.

Buzzwole can launch Pikachu up above the sky. Even to someone in the sky he is out of sight! Buzzwole can also tank Pikachu’s Thunderbolt.

Wiz: Buzzwole isn't just a tough guy. Despite its bulk, it's incredibly fast. It has dodged Pikachu's Quick Attack. When Pikachu uses quick attack he moves at a speed unseen by the human eye. This means Buzzwole can react at a speed around 9,000 miles per hour. Buzzwole can also moveat this speed in short bursts and even matched Pikachu's Quick Attack while casually running.

Boomstick: Buzzwole has also matched a Bewear in strength and has even fought Tapu Koko canonically on even grounds even though Tau Koko is part Fairy type which Buzzwole is weak to.

Wiz: Well, Buzzwole is weak to Fairy type moves as well as Fire, Psychic and Flying type moves because Buzzwole is still a Pokemon.

Popup: Buzzwole is extremely vulnerable to Flying type moves because of its dual typing. Both Bug and Fighting type Pokemon are weak to Flying type moves.

Wiz: Also, all of his moves are are physical or have low range so he can't attack from afar.

Boomstick: But still. Buzzwole is no force to be reckoned with. Plus because it’s a mosquito.

Buzzwole lands near a lake, looks at its reflection, and flexes like a boss.

The Tick[]

Boomstick: Let’s get one thing straight. Superheroes are freaking awesome!

Wiz: Well, the majority of them at least.

Boomstick: Yeah, unless you’re one of those people who absolutely despises superheroes in which I say, is your head in the right place?

Wiz: The City - yes, that's the actual name of the city - is certainly, well, a city that contains many superheroes as well as supervillains, but none of them can compete or even compare to the might of The City's sworn defender: The Tick!

The Tick: Spoon!

Wiz: The Tick appears in quite a lot of media adaptations but today we will be mainly focuing on the animated series since that's where most people recognise him.

Boomstick: Every adaptation has a different origin of The Tick. What all of his adaptations agree on, however, is that The Tick does not remember life before he was The Tick.

Wiz: This is most likely due to frequent head injuries.

Boomstick: In the animated series though, The Tick was assigned to protect The City after passing his superhero initiation test.

Popup: In the comics, he is legally insane and escaped from a mental institution close to The CIty. In the 2001 series, he was tricked into moving into and protecting The City.

Wiz: The Tick may appear childish - and trust me, he is - but he is good-natured and high-spirited.

Boomstick: Wait. Hold up. If The Tick of all people can pass a superhero initiation test, then surely I, Boomstick the Great, can pass it too.

Wiz: Are you sure Boomstick?

Boomstick: Yeah. He and a bunch of other silly superheroes passed it.

Wiz: Well, The Tick is no Dan Hibiki, that's for sure. He's got the stats to back up his status as a superhero.

Boomstick: The Tick has super strength and super durability despite being based off of a tick of all animals.

Wiz: The Tick is incredibly tough, having been described as nigh-invulnerable.

Boomstick: Yeah, pretty much anything you can throw at him, he’ll just tank. He’s so impressive that he once swallowed a bread bomb and survived. No, the bread bomb doesn’t explode but it does keep expanding and The Tick freaking stomached that and survived!

Wiz: Uh, I'm not sure if that's an impressive feat as opposed to surviving the explosions of bombs.

Boomstick: WIz, please. Have you ever tried to swallow large amounts of bread at once? I always tried but I just couldn’t do it, even when eating Mama Boomstick’s incredible banana bread. And everyone knows Mama Boomstick’s banana bread is always the best.

Wiz: Uh, okay. The Tick is also really strong. This is fairly obvious but I should mention that The Tick's strength is rather inconsistent.

Boomstick: Yeah, like how in some instances he struggles with mundane opponents and in other instances his strength is off the charts.

Wiz: This inconsistency is never addressed or is given an explanation in the animated series however there is something in the comics that may explain this inconsistency: drama power.

Boomstick: So drama power pretty much powers up The Tick when the situation is dramatic or serious.

Wiz: Nonetheless, The Tick is pretty impressive. He's survived in space without a suit and can survive underwater without oxygen for a long time.

Boomstick: On top of that, The Tick survived getting shocked with 10,000 volts, resisted the heat of a lava man who melted a trash can in seconds, endured getting knocked into space and reentering the atmosphere, and pulled through bombs exploding.

Wiz: One, which I may mention, intended to blow up a dam and another intended to flatten a portion of the moon. And he's no slouch either. He can swim as fast as a dolphin supervillain...

Popup: Scaling the supervillain to an actual dolphin, both the supervillain and The Tick would be swimming at around 37 miles per hour.

Wiz: ..and jumped on a biplane while chasing it.

Popup: The biplane was likely travelling around 72 miles per hour.

Boomstick: Oh man. Forget what I said about The Tick before. He is a powerhouse!

Wiz: Uh, I don't think you've said anything particularly bad about him. Regardless, what's a superhero without his weakness? The Tick's incredibly stupid and his mind works like a child. Also, The Tick may be nigh-invulnerable but the same can't be said for his head and antennae. His head is the only spot where he gets hurt and he needs his antennae for balance.

Boomstick: Does it really matter when he had his head under the grip of a person who can crush diamonds? Sure, he’s dumb as bricks but it will take a lot to take down The City’s rightous and sworn defender!

The Tick drops in front of Arthur with a broken flagpole in his hand.

The Tick: Gravity is a harsh mistress.

Fight[]

It's a normal day in The City. It's sworn defender, The Tick, and his trusty sidekick, Arthur, are out for a walk.

The Tick: I have a feeling something imminent is approaching.

Arthur: Well, that's an oxymoron.

The Tick: It's coming like a big flying bug coming from an interdimensional portal.

Suddenly, a big flying bug coming from an interdimensional portal appeared in front of the dynamic duo. This was Buzzwole. Everyone around them are running around, fearful. Arthur is terrified out of his mind, panicking with fear, but The Tick looked its future foe in the eye.

The Tick: Go home Arthur. I'll take care of this monstrosity.

But Arthur was already gone. When The Tick looked behind him, he could see that Arthur was running away.

The Tick: No matter. I'll take care of this.

The two muscular bugs stared at each other as if they were in a staredown.

The scene cuts to a news channel.

BREAKING!! BREAKING!!

News Anchor Sally Vacuum: Newsflash. A mysterious monster appearing to be an oversized mosquito somehow found its way into The City. Fortunately, The Tick is there to face this new threat. It seems like they've locked eyes and are now in a staredown. More on this story on the way. Meanwhile, on a more lighter note, clowns.

The scene switches back to the moment of the showdown. Buzzwole looks at The Tick carefully and observes him. The Tick's eyes are slowly watering.

The Tick: I can't lose to this thing... in a staring contest!

Out of nowhere, the unfamiliar monster posed in front of The Tick. The Tick looked on with confusion. Buzzwole flexed again trying to get a reaction from the blue-clad superhero. The Tick is still confused.

The Tick: I know! I should take this monster down.

The Tick ran up to Buzzwole and unexpectedly punched it. Buzzwole was sent flying into a building nearby. It got up realizing that what this stranger wanted was a fight. It flew towards The Tick. The Tick ran up to Buzzwole again with his fist clenched. Both of their fists collided which marked the beginning of the..

FIGHT!!

Both The Tick and Buzzwole made contact with each other with their fists as they exchanged punches in an Ora-Ora fashion. Their fists were punching so fast that it was seen as a flurry. Finally, The Tick wins out in the little duel and lands an uppercut sending Buzzwole in the air. The Tick jumps into the air to where Buzzwole is and performs a double axe handle on the giant mosquito. Buzzwole quickly falls towards the ground and is buried in a hole on the road. It soon got up and escaped its hole. The Tick soon lands on the ground.

The Tick: Huh. Not bad. But I was destined to win like a bed made to be slept on!

Buzzwole flexes in front of its opponent and yells out some unintelligible noises.

The Tick: Oh. Well, *gurgling sound* to you too!

Buzzwole engaged in flight once more and then disappeared. The Tick is surprised and is in confusion, searching for his enemy. Buzzwole immediately appeared behind The Tick, took him by his antennae, swung him around, and tossed him away.

The Tick: Ow, ow, ow.

The Tick landed on his feet and looked around him for some possible weapons to fight with. The Tick spotted a stop sign for across the street.

The Tick: Aha!

The silly superhero ran to grab the stop sign and remove it from its spot like a sword in a stone.

The Tick: Now I'll show that monster bug who's the bos..

All of a sudden, Buzzwole knocked The Tick into the air like its enemy did before it. The Tick was taken by surprise. Buzzwole went in for a jab but The Tick was aware of the Swollen Pokemon's presence and launched it sideways with his stop sign.

Buzzwole was tumbling through the air but quickly regained flight. The Tick dropped on the top of a building, eyed Buzzwole, and jumped back at him.

Buzzwole saw the invulnerable hero and attempted to dropkick him, but The Tick was aiming to grab the huge insect's feet then body and, spinning in the air, performed a backwards suplex that, upon impact, released a huge shock wave.

When the smoke cleared, The Tick was standing, confident that he destroyed the monster.

The Tick: Haha! I have defeated the monster!

The thing was, Buzzwole was also standing, posing and flexing.

The Tick: Seriously?! What does it take to defeat this big bug person?! Oh, so that's how it feels. Hehe.

The Tick launched himself at Buzzwole, but Buzzwole was prepared, projecting a Dynamic Punch at its foe. The punch confused The Tick temporarily.

The Tick: What? What happened? Wha..

Buzzwole then used its proboscis to stab The Tick in the back of his neck and replenished its health.

The Tick snapped out of his confusion and found Buzzwole sucking at the back of his neck.

The Tick: Back off monster!

The Tick spun around which shook Buzzwole off. Buzzwole retaliated with a Thunderpunch but The Tick was unfazed.

The Tick: I'm sorry monster, but it takes more than that to take me down.

Buzzwole came to The Tick with an Ice Punch, freezing The Tick in the process. The Tick struggled to thaw the ice surrounding him. Buzzwole took the time to charge up a Focus Punch. Fortunately for The Tick, he broke out of the ice and gave Buzzwole a punch for justice.

Buzzwole was then dragged around by The Tick, feeling weaker and weaker every second.

The Tick: How does it feel now, monster?!

The Tick threw Buzzwole into a wall. Buzzwole quickly Hardened himself to raise his defense and tank whatever The Tick could throw at him.

The Tick: Now to finish you.

The Tick put all of his strength into a punch to end the buggy monster once and for all and it made contact.

The Tick: Ha. You fought well, but it wasn't enough. Wait, what?!

The Tick saw that Buzzwole wasn't taken out as quickly as he thought. In fact, Buzzwole was far from worn out. Buzzwole used Reversal to deal damage to The Tick and aimed for his head.

The Tick: Augh!

The Tick was backed down. Buzzwole confronted him and picked him up by his antennae.

The Tick: No, wait! The City needs me! The City needs me to be their hero!

Buzzwole spoke something unintelligible again. Both bug brawlers took one last look at each other. Then, Buzzwole took his proboscis and drilled it through The Tick's face as hard as it could. The Tick was no more but a guy with a big hole in his face. Buzzwole dropped him to the floor. Buzzwole finally flew away.

KO!!

Results[]

Boomstick: Oh my God! That death was just gruesome. I mean, I like it and all but I think it will be..

Wiz: 'Bugging' you out?

Boomstick: Uh, I was gonna say that it will freak me out. C'mon Wiz. You know I don't just 'wing' puns like that.

Wiz: Ughh, well this certainly was a tricky match as both Buzzwole and The Tick were more than formidable opponents for each other.

Boomstick: The Tick's nigh-invulnerability let him hang in there for sure and admittedly he could've won 40% of the time but Buzzwole had more advantages to snag the win.

Wiz: First off, they both were not invincible as they both had weaknesses but The Tick's weaknesses were more exploitable than Buzzwole's.

Boomstick: Buzzwole had weaknesses to Fire, Fairy, Psychic, and Flying-type moves but since The Tick isn't a Pokemon, he couldn't really take advantage of Buzzwole's weaknesses. The Tick on the other hand has a mind that works like a child and his head and antennae were vulnerable spots. Sure those spots were tough but Buzzwole was strong and tough enough to take care of that.

Wiz: Let's talk speed now. Buzzwole can move faster than eyesight, around 9,000 miles per hour. But Buzzwole can mostly achieve those speeds in short bursts. The Tick can run and catch up to a biplane moving 72 miles per hour. Even if The Tick can run at those speeds more consistently than Buzzwole, just being able to achieve speeds faster than eyesight is greater and allows Buzzwole to react to The Tick faster than The Tick reacting to Buzzwole itself.

Boomstick: Please Wiz. I think everyone here's wondering the same thing: who was stronger and more durable?

Wiz: The hardest hit The Tick ever took was when he re-entered the atmosphere with the force of a meteorite. Assuming that we take the force of a meteorite literally and that The Tick fell with the same force as the biggest meteorite, the Hoba meteorite with a weight of 60 tons, then this means that The Tick took a force of about 398 tons of TNT. And this can certainly increase with Drama Power since he's in a situation where he fights to the death. It's also possible to scale his durability to his strength. Keep in mind that we're overestimating The Tick.

Boomstick: Now let's compare that with Buzzwole's might. One of Buzzwole's best feats is overpowering a Machamp. What's so special about this four-armed thing? Well the Pokedex states that with one arm, it can push mountains with one arm. This means that with all four arms, Machamp can exert a force equivalent to, at minimum, 14 kilotons of TNT, 140 times more powerful than our calculations for The Tick's fall. Plus, we were overestimating The Tick and underestimating Machamp.

Popup: Also, Machamp is stated to be abe to punch at megaton levels. As in, Machamp can punch with the force of a million tons of TNT!

Wiz: Furthurmore Buzzwole has fought with a Bewear and even Tapu Koko on even grounds...

Boomstick: A legendary whose fought other legendaries!

Wiz: ..despite Tapu Koko having the type advantage. We could also scale Buzzwole's strength to his durability like we did with The Tick's durability.

Boomstick: Other than less exploitable weaknesses, better speed, strength, and durability, Buzzwole had a better method to have aerial dominance with flight, could reflect moves with Counter, and even raise his stats with moves like Bulk Up and Harden.

Wiz: Overall, Buzzwole was just stronger, faster, more durable, and more advantageous to ensure a victory.

Boomstick: In this fight, this superhero's time was just 'ticking' down until it 'Buzzwore' out.

Wiz: The winner is Buzzwole.
