The scene opens with Wiz and Boomstick inside a press box.

Boomstick: Hello and welcome back to the DB Sports Channel, brought to you by Death Battle. Today, we've got another host with us today: Ego Iinpachi! Ego, how're you doing today?

The screen cuts to Ego, who is trying to make his instant noodles.

Ego: Meh. I ran out of mayo today.

Boomstick: Well, shame for him.

Wiz: Sports. A national hit activity worldwide for champions alike. But when it comes down to it, all that matters is the team who remains victorious, and who will that team be? This is the mindset for every team out there who wish to make it big.

Boomstick: Like the undefeatable Lycaons from One Outs!

Wiz: And the determined team of Isagi Yoichi from Blue Lock.

Boomstick: These are some of the most recognized sporting teams in Japan, but who would win in an all-out brawl? He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.

Boomstick: Woohoo! Go Lycaons!

Wiz & Ego: What.

Boomstick: What? I'm rooting for my favs!

Ego and Wiz remain silent.

Wiz: From the start of his life, Isagi has had one dream: to become a professional soccer player and make it to the world cup.

Ego: But all that failed when he unfortunately passed it to the wrong person on his team, whose name I... Uh... (Shuffles through papers) Yeah, I didn't really check.

Wiz: Apologies to our dear viewers, but we've kicked Boomstick out because he had a wrong opinion about who would win. So, we had to make do with Ego.

The shot cuts to an annoyed Ego staring at the screen before cutting back to Wiz.

Wiz: Ahem, yes, well, as I was saying - Isagi has had this lifelong dream of making it to the World Cup ever since he was a child. But that all came crashing down when he unfortunately made a crucial mistake during a high-stakes match, costing his team the game.

Ego: When the pressure was on, he choked. His teammates were counting on him, and he let them down. Way to go, Isagi. Way to go.

Isagi: (Away from mic) **** you!

Ego shakes his head in disappointment.

Isagi kicks the ball

Ego: That's why I handpicked Isagi and the other players for the Blue Lock program - to forge them into the ultimate, uncompromising strikers. Even if it meant ruining their lives.

Wiz: It's a brutal philosophy, but Blue Lock believes it's the only way for these players to truly reach their full potential. And with a lineup that includes technical maestros like Nagi, speed demons like Chigiri, and wild cards like Bachira, the Blue Lock team has all the tools to make Japan's vision a reality.

Ego: With 13 players and 89 wins in total, the subjects managed to undergo tougher challenges that one might expect, like fighting people who were about 10 times stronger than they were. I made sure to train them well. Really well.

Wiz: Yeah, he- he really did.

Isagi going insane

Ego: (Reading off script) And even when they have their flaws, their skills more than make up for it. Go... Er, Z. Am I saying that right?

Wiz: ... Uh, good enough.

Boomstick: What, is this on?

The camera slowly comes back on, where we see Boomstick and Manager Mihara.

Boomstick: Oh, yes! Ahem... And now, for the greatest team in all of sports: the Lycaons! Today, we even have Manager Mihara here to help us introduce them!

Mihara looks around nervously, clearly not being used to the fact that he was appearing directly on the air.

Mihara: Huh? O-Oh! Uh... Well, I can confirm what Boomstick says; the Lycaons have made their way from the ground up into one of the best baseball teams in Japan, starting from Okinawa! They made a long trip to get here, too!

INTERMISSION[]

Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set, and we've run the data through all possibilities.

Wiz: But first, a few things to clarify.

Boomstick: Since these people are most known for their strategies in sports, they will each be given their own time to prepare. Especially since the Lycaons aren't that experienced in soccer, and the Blue Locks aren't in baseball.

Wiz: So, with that out of the way...

Boomstick: IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLEEE!!!

COMPARISON[]

CONNECTIONS[]

  • Both teams both originate from sporting animes where it's do or die. For Blue Lock, if they don't win their matches, their soccer careers are over. In One Outs, if they don't win, they'll need to start at the drawing board all over again.
  • The protagonists of their teams are mostly known for their strategies and intuitional thinking. Isagi claims that he can "smell a goal" while Tokuchi is simply able to concoct plans on short notice, which usually ends up with his team winning.
  • Both the Blue Lock team and the Lycaons are portrayed as underdogs or less talented teams compared to their opponents, but they rely on their wits and strategies to pull off victories.
  • Both teams have had their run-in with traitors, albeit the Lycaons dealt with it more swiftly.
  • Each team is under the authority of a boss they don't really like. The Owner in One Outs is a businessman at heart, and a person who hates the team winning to the point where he wishes death on Tokuchi. Meanwhile, the Blue Lock team hate Ego for putting them in this mess.
