Description[]
Sonic the Hedgehog vs. Spyro the Dragon. Even their aloof personalities won't keep this battle from heating up.
Introduction[]
Wiz: Blaze the Cat, the Guardian of the Sol Emeralds.
Boomstick: Cynder, the enemy-turned-ally of Spyro the Dragon.
Wiz: Don't let their aloof and standoffish personalities mislead you. When it comes to doing the right thing, they'll put aside their errors of aggressor and use their elemental abilities in the fight against evil.
Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armour and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
Blaze[]
Wiz: After yet another battle against his archenemy, Doctor Eggman, Sonic the Hedgehog found that the not-so-good doctor had dropped something. And where it not for its alien shape, he could have easily mistook it for a Chaos Emerald.
Boomstick: But nope, it was a whole other artefact; a Sol Emerald, and it was quickly snatched back up by its guardian, Blaze the Cat.
- Background
- Age: 14
- Height: 3'3
- Princess of the Sol Dimension
- Guardian of the Sol Emeralds
- Afraid of heights
Wiz: Who, as is turns out, was in fact a nomad from another dimension entirely; the Sol Dimension, where she was both its princess and guardian of its most sacred relics. The aforementioned Sol Emeralds.
Boomstick: So she's basically a fusion of Knuckles the Echidna, as Guardian of the Chaos Emeralds, and Sally, Princess of an entire kingdom.
Wiz: If you say so, although you can also include Knuckle's status as an occasional rival of Sonic, because she and Sonic later started clashing over their respective missions. But Blaze's rash actions weren't completely unwarranted, because there was a crisis she had to deal with.
Boomstick: For some bizarre reason, her dimension and Sonic's were slowly merging together and Eggman used the opportunity to steal her Emeralds. And at the same time, her archenemy Eggman-Nega also used the opportunity to try and take Sonic's world, leading to an archenemy switch around. Crazy right?
Wiz: Regardless of which Eggman Blaze was fighting, she was convinced she could do it alone. And with her arsenal of powers, she might have actually been able to.
Boomstick: She's not called Blaze for nothing you know, because she has the power to generate and control fire! It makes sense; after all, a cat wouldn't want to be a Waterbender. She can make pillars of fire shoot out of the ground or keep it around herself for her various attacks.
- Abilities and Techniques
- Fire manipulation and control
- Homing Attack
- Axel Jump
- Alex Tornado
- Burst Dash
- Burst Hover
- Fire Boost
- Spinning Claw
- Fire Claw
- Burning Blaze
- Powered by the Sol Emeralds
- Burning Fire Boost
Wiz: A lot of which serve as parallels to Sonic's own attacks, although she does use the exact same Homing Attack as he does. The Axel Jump has her leap into the air surrounded by fire, Axel Tornado upgrades it into an upwards spiral and the Burst Dash builds up her energy for an speedy shoot forwards.
Boomstick: In my opinion though, the Fire Boost is a much better means of doing so, because it practically turns her into a ground-level meteor to send robots flying into the distance. And with Burst Hover, she can keep herself in the air for a while longer.
Wiz: For close quarters combat, Blaze has the Spinning Claw attack, where she makes use of her natural weaponry, her claws, in a twirling attack. And whilst the Homing Attack is a universal method of attack, Blaze can empower hers with a burst of flame to add more of an impact.
Boomstick: And being so intoned with fire herself, Blaze naturally has a certain resistance to it.
Popup: Blaze can also gain access to power-ups like the various shields found randomly in stages.
Wiz: Blaze has considered her pyrokinesis to a curse at times, but has still dedicated herself to using them to guard the Sol Emeralds. In other words, making the best of a situation.
Boomstick: And in turn, she's naturally been able to call on the combined power of the Sol Emeralds whenever she needed them. After re-collecting them first of course.
Wiz: Like the Chaos Emeralds of Sonic world, the Sol Emeralds are able to elevate Blaze into a new state of power; Burning Blaze. Like Super Sonic, Burning Blaze is invisible to all but the highest forms of damage and can now travel at the speed of light and even a few leagues beyond that.
Boomstick: Her Fire Boost becomes the Burning Fire Boost, as if there was anything else fire did, and she can shoot powerful fireballs.
Wiz: Alongside Super Sonic, Burning Blaze was able to travel to a robot in deep space and battle against the Egg Wizard, which was fuelled by a source of power that sustained Sonic's and Blaze's world. Both Super Forms were likely doing their fair share of contesting with that 2x universal power, which lines up with how Super Shadow, Super Sonic and Super Silver all fought against Solaris, who threatened the past, present and future time periods.
Boomstick: Even without the Sol Emeralds and the temporary benefit of Burning Blaze, normal Blaze is still a fighter you don't want to cross. She's managed to match Sonic in combat and he's certainly no slouch. Although to be honest, the music for the boss fight suggests something else could be going on...
- Feats
- Imprisoned Iblis inside of herself
- Reclaimed all 7 Sol Emeralds
- Matched Sonic
- As Burning Blaze, helped defeat the Egg Wizard
- Defeated Eggman, Eggman Nega, Captain Whiskers
Wiz: Sonic was able to outrun a psuedo-black hole at one third the speed of light. And whilst Sonic characters don't have many power feats outside of what is said to be via the Chaos Emeralds, cartoons closely tied to the game demonstrate Sonic as breaking a gigantic stone spike with 200 kilotons of TNT and Knuckles surviving being in the epicenter of an explosion worth nearly 6 gigatons of TNT (FanofRPGs).
Boomstick: Eh, as long as it's not Archie or Boom continuity, I'm sure it can ride.
Wiz: Speaking of alternate worlds, so to speak, Blaze even helped seal away the current self of Iblis, the Flames of Destruction, since her soul was already alight with the power of fire.
Boomstick: And then she had to get locked away in another dimension. Forever! Holy crap, that's dark! Good thing for that other princess resetting the timeline, or else she'd have to exist with a fire demon inside of her in some empty space.
Wiz: Still, this action of hers is arguably a reflection of the lesson she learned when the fate of two worlds relied on her; to put aside for loner nature and fight alongside others. Which is how she was able to fully harness the Sol Emeralds to begin with.
Boomstick: With the power of friendship!
Wiz: Be it in the Sol Dimension or by assisting one that isn't her own, Blaze will be there to burn away any trace of evil she can find.
Boomstick: She will cook up some special kind of eggs in the pursuit of justice.
Cynder[]
Wiz: The Year of the Dragon was an event held to celebrate the newest generation of dragons born into the world, including the Legendary Purple Dragon himself, Spyro, who would bring balance to the world.
Boomstick: But the Dark Master was having none of that, and had his Ape army pull a pretty brutal version of an Easter Egg hunt, and had all the eggs smashed. Brutal...
Wiz: All but two of them survived. One was Spyro's own, sent down a river by Ignitus to keep him safe. The other wasn't so lucky. In order to obtain a powerful minion, the Dark Master corrupted the infant dragon into his top enforcer. Thus was the initial life of the dark dragoness Cynder.
- Background
- Age: 15
- Height: 4'
- Corrupted by Gaul and Malefor
- Foe-turned-ally of Spyro the Dragon
- A Gameboy version mistook her for Spyro's sister
Boomstick: And because of that, Cynder was robbed of a childhood. And I mean that literally; with dark magic, Cynder was aged up to her adult form. Which according to Sparx, is sexy.
Wiz: With Cynder assisting the Ape King Gaul in his conquest in the Dark Master's name, the Apes washed over all opposition, with even the Dragon Guardians falling into their clutches, their energies collected in order to free the Dark Master.
Boomstick: She was even successful, and Malefor was able to jump from Convexity to the Well of Souls for the later stage of resurrection. But Spyro's efforts weren't totally in vain, because he was able to blast the curse out of her, restoring Cynder to her actual age and state of mind.
Wiz: Whilst Cynder didn't really have anything to redeem for, considering she was a corrupted pawn, she couldn't put what she had done behind her for a while, not until she had to take an activate role in stopping the Dark Master once he fully returned. And thanks to her previous corruption, she had powers most other dragons didn't.
Boomstick: Most dragons are capable of flight and attacking with their wings, claws or tails and only the Purple Dragon could wield more than one element. But as it turns out, Cynder could thanks to her brush with dark energies!
- Powers and Abilities
- Flight
- Melee
- Elements
- Wind
- Twister
- Poison
- Scorpion Strike
- Shadow
- Shadow Fire
- Fear
- Phantom Fright
- Aether
- Wind
Wiz: Had Cynder not been corrupted by Malefor, then her naturally Element would have been Wind, which she still has access to. With it, she can breath out a small current of air or literally turn herself into a Twister.
Boomstick: Wind is cool and all but her quote-on-quote dark elements are the real show stopper. Like Fear, where she unleashes a shriek that makes enemies literally run for the hills. The secondary version can send out orbs with the same effect, showing that nothing is scarier than a woman shouting at you. Well, maybe aside from poison.
Wiz: Like the venom orbs Cynder can fire out with Poison, or the somersault attack that is its secondary ability.
Popup: With the right armour equipped, Cynder can imbue her attacks with poison.
Boomstick: And fourth, there's Shadow, where Cynder becomes a living shadow that can burst out of the ground, both tossing and blinding her enemies. Plus, she can breath out the stuff now.
Wiz: But those four elements aren't the only power Cynder can harness. One last unwilling gift from the Dark Master is to use the element of the Purple Dragons itself. The power of Aether. With it, Cynder is able to unleash a powerful beam which is able to practically shred away any form of opposition.
Boomstick: Small wonder, considering it's able to break down matter on the atomic level, like a goddamn atom smasher. I know it must have been hell to have been corrupted into an attack dog, or dragon, but Cynder still got some awesome perks from it. Including a tail blade.
Wiz: I'm not so sure that's something to be thankful for.
Boomstick: Why not? It's perfect for slicing and dicing enemies.
Wiz: Sure, but compare it's placement on Cynder's tail to how other dragon's have spades on theirs.
Boomstick: Uh-huh? Huh. Oh. Oh. Oh! Oh my god!
Wiz: Yeah...
Boomstick: They couldn't have...damn! Dark. You'd expect Cynder would have a bigger chip on her shoulder but the whole experience of being corrupted seems to have just taken most of the wind out of her. Except for when she does it, but you know what I mean.
- Feats
- Formulated a plan to slow down the Destroyer
- Whilst corrupted, captured all 4 Dragon Guardians
- Faster than Spyro in combat
- Survived in the earth's core
- Helped defeat the Golem, the Destroyer, the Dark Master
Wiz: Eventually however, and through time-crystal hijinks and a green snake chain, Cynder found herself fighting alongside Spyro to stop the Dark Master once and for all, and she proved every bit as capable of keeping up with him.
Boomstick: And sometimes outpacing him, since from gameplay, she seems to be slightly faster than he is. And he's able to attack with actual lightning. Over 200 times the speed of sound.
Wiz: She even has greater reserves of magic that Spyro does, meaning she can make much better use of her elements on the battlefield. And in spite of being faster, this doesn't mean she isn't as tough as Spyro.
Boomstick: Both can take hits from the Golem after all, handle touching lava and survive in the core of the world.
Wiz: If it's at all comparable to our world's core, then it should output energy worth 34 megatons of TNT. And she was even fighting Malefor the whole time alongside Spyro.
Boomstick: It was not an easy ordeal. For one thing, Malefor was even able to re-corrupt her for a moment, before the power of love or whatever helped break her out of it. But to be fair, it must be love if you're willing to stay with someone as they pull of a risky move to prevent the world from falling apart.
Popup: This dark form of Cynder is similar to Dark Spyro, which manifested by itself when Spyro was overwhelmed with grief at Ignitus' death. Cynder's should be accessible during similar emotional distress, similar to the doubt Malefor instilled in her.
Wiz: And at the end of it all, it payed off; the last we see of Spyro and Cynder they are flying free through the world, forever ride of the Dark Master's influence. And let's be honest; Cynder deservers and has earned that reprieve more than anyone else.
Interlude[]
Wiz: Alright the combatants are set, time to end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: It's time for a Death Battle!
The Battle[]
Setting: Floating Islands
Blaze leapt from the floating islands, searching for the last Sol Emerald. She finally noticed it on a large circular platform but before she could casually jump down to get it, someone flew down and snatched it up. Blaze's eyes widened in shock and anger as she watched Cynder climb higher into the sky, observing the pilfered jewel that had caught her interest, before they narrowed with intention.
Blaze: You thief!
Cynder frowned and looked above her to see Blaze shooting down towards her, the cat readying an attack.
FIGHT!
This attack consisted of her sending out a massive wave of fire towards Cynder, causing her to cry out in surprise; she spun downwards through the air, leaving the Sol Emerald behind in the process and literally dove into the circular platform's ground with her Shadow power. Blaze's fire attack billowed over the arena whilst she grabbed the Emerald and stowed it away before landing. She looked around for her absent target and Cynder suddenly burst out of a shadow patch towards her. Blaze noticed in time to avoid a slash from the dragoness' claw, before retaliating with a kick aimed at her head. Cynder blocked it with her wing before she and Blaze started exchanging attacks with their claws and limbs. Cynder eventually went for a spinning tail whip, which Blaze leapt over before shooting at her opponent with a Homing Attack. Cynder shielded herself with both her wings and once Blaze landed, she lunged forwards and clamped her teeth on her arm. Blaze yelped in pain before getting flipped on her back by Cynder via the hold, the dragoness then pinning her down. and raising her tail blade.
Blaze dodged her head from side to side to avoid getting hit by the blade, before just straight up grabbing it at Cynder's third attempt. In spite of the blade drawing blood from her palm, Blaze heated it with her pyrokinesis, the intense temperature spreading to Cynder's tail. The dragoness cried out in pain and drew back, enabling Blaze to flip backwards into a crouching position. There, she charged up a Burst Dash and shot forwards at Cynder, colliding into her with enough force to send her smashing into a stone chunk. As Blaze used Fire Boost to charge at her a second time, Cynder once again used Shadow to slip into the ground and avoid the attack as it blew apart the stone chunk. In spite of missing her target, Blaze spotted Cynder rising up of the ground behind her and summoning tornado of Wind around herself, so when she jumped backwards at her, she summoned a swirl of fire around herself. The two spiralling elements collided together, resulting in a windy explosion that tore apart the platform they were fighting upon.
Without a platform to remain on, Blaze slowed her descent with a burst of fire from her feet, looking behind her to see Cynder chasing after her with her more efficient flight. The dragoness unleashed balls of venom at Blaze, which fell towards the cat and forced her to maneuverer around them. Blaze retaliated by turning around and firing off a hail of fireballs, which Cynder weaved between before turning herself into a spinning venom-coated projectile and shooting towards Blaze. A burst of fire from her hand enabled Blaze to dodge to the side but this enabled Cynder to hover by her side and the two of them slashed out with their claws, the collisions of the natural weapons producing sparks. When Cynder attempted to swat Blaze with an roll, Blaze cancelled the fire keeping her afloat, dived under a floating piece of rubble before reactivating it in time to help her land on a long strip of land.
Running across it, Blaze kept an eye on Cynder as she swopped down; once she was close enough, the cat performed an Axel Jump, knocking Cynder away with the successful contact. Cynder re-righted herself however and moved behind Blaze, colliding into her with her horns. Blaze was lifted off her feet and thrown back into open sky but when Cynder appeared above her for another attack, Blaze grabbed the wrist used for the attempted strike to get herself above the dragoness for a downwards blast of fire. It hit Cynder between the wings, leaving a blackened scorch march and making her cry in pain. Cynder tumbled through the sky as Blaze shot down after her with Fire Claw. But Cynder was able to turn herself around and shoot up a red-coloured shriek at Blaze, inflicting her with the fear. The cat was instantly paralyzed with terror and was so in the midst of a panic attack that when Cynder flapped out of her way, she was unable to prevent herself from crashing face-first into another island.
Blaze, freed from the effect of Fear due to the impact, wiped the blood from her nose and looked up to see Cynder standing before her; the dragoness opened her mouth and unleashed a wave of Shadow towards the cat, bombarding her with the sinister substance that began gluing Blaze down. But Blaze was able to concentrate even as she was engulfed, and pillars of fire burst out of the ground, forcing Cynder to abandon her attack and back off. The dragoness quickly found herself surrounded by the pillars of fire and was forced into a small space by them. This set her up perfectly for another pillar to erupt around her, burning her inside as she screamed.
The scream became unnatural and distorted as Cynder entered her dark form, a pulse of energy blowing away the fire pillars. Blaze looked on surprise before dodging to the side as a beam of Aether sliced through the ground. As Blaze ran around the island, Cynder unleashed more beams, which left the island with massive gouges, eventually firing one in front of the cat, cutting off her path. Blaze reeled backwards and realized she was now standing at the very edge of the island, triggering her vertigo and giving Dark Cynder her opportunity to unleash a blast of Aether straight towards her. Blaze took a massive gamble and took a step backwards, the blast thus hitting the ground before her and sending her flying out into the air with the resulting small explosion. But as she flew backwards, Blaze's eyes snapped open and the Sol Emeralds appeared around her. One second later, and she was become Burning Blaze.
Now hovering in the air, Burning Blaze bared her fangs and shot towards Dark Cynder with Burning Fire Boost; she directly collided with her before she could react, carrying her off the platform and towards some more floating rubble, smashing her through three massive chunks before sending the dragoness flying back by stopping. Dark Cynder was able to bring herself under control, snarled aggressively and unleashed a blast of Aether straight towards her opponent. The blast washed over Burning Blaze but the cat weathered the atomic-shredding energy and powered through it with the Burning Fire Boost, splitting the stream apart. But to her horror, the transformation was beginning to wear off. And so, she acted quickly, charging up two fireballs in her hands and firing them through the beam straight towards Dark Cynder. Thus, they hit her straight in the open mouth, causing her to gag and come out of the Dark form, the Aether beam cancelling out. As the flames in her mouth continued to smoulder, Cynder was unable to defend herself before Burning Blaze used Burning Fire Boost for a third and final time to smash straight into Cynder with enough force to burn her in half, leaving her two halves to plummet through the sky.
Blaze's transformation wore off and she was able to land on one of the remaining floating islands, looking behind her at Cynder's falling remains with a cool but relieved expression.
KO!
Outcome[]
Boomstick: And here I thought it were cinders that are left behind after a blaze. Get it?
Wiz: Ugh, yes. Now, this battle had a fair number of unique factors. Cynder certainly had the edge in versatility thanks to the five elements she could wield, and so would certainly keep Blaze on her toes.
Boomstick: The same could be said for her more natural and accessible flight although Blaze isn't unexperienced with flying foes, like that bird mech Eggman used. She could certainly employ that experience against Cynder, even if she kept to the air.
Wiz: Especially since she couldn't stay up in the air forever spamming her elemental powers, since they ran on a limited supply of mana. Unlike Blaze, who could always generate her fire. Cynder would be forced to confront Blaze herself in due time, especially since Blaze was too fast for any of her elemental attacks to land more often than not. Spyro's Aether was able to travel out at 41 thousand times the speed of sound, whilst Sonic could outrun a black hole at 260 thousand times the speed of sound. This would make Blaze 6 times faster and perfectly capable of avoiding any of Cynder's attacks.
Boomstick: And that's even if Blaze couldn't just tank Cynder's physical attacks, through wary scaling to Knuckle's 3 gigaton explosion from Sonic X and the 34 megatons of the earth's core. But you know what was completely invincible to Cynder's attacks? Burning Blaze, that's what! I doubt even Aether could get past that outright indestructibility and it certainly had more than enough power to overwhelm Cynder.
Wiz: First, I think it's important to mention that Cynder's own Aether likely isn't as powerful as Spyro's, since, you know, they're his species unique element. And after all, only he could use his Aether to repair the planet, moving each chunk with 5 ninatons of TNT. But the Sol Emeralds which power Burning Blaze are the same as the Chaos Emeralds, which could power the Eclipse Cannon which possessed enough power to shoot through stars.
Popup: Spyro and Cynder could potentially have caused the collapse of Convexity, which dragged in a celestial body with 167 ninatons of TNT. The star-busting power of the Eclipse Cannon still overshadows this however.
Boomstick: That would need 32 tenatons of TNT, just under 1000 times greater than Spyro moving pieces of the earth. And that's even if Cynder could directly scale to him which again, is highly unlikely. Like a certain Edge-hog before her, Blaze just had the time brought with her superior speed to access her incredible power and really take the win. Still, that dragoness had the wrath worthy of a Sin-der.
Wiz: The winner is Blaze the Cat.
Next Time[]
With their missions fulfilled
These two will never die
Trivia[]
- Connections: Both are aloof and distant, though ultimately heroic, purple-coloured female counterparts/rivals to pre-established video game characters, whom they have joined forces against a common enemy after initially fighting against them. Both are named after fire-based phenomenon, have made use of the elements in battle, and have sought out unique crystals; Blaze searches for the Sol Emeralds whenever they are stolen, whilst Cynder, whilst corrupted, stored the Guardian's energy in crystals. Both have also been selected for unique duties; Blaze is the Guardian of the Sol Emeralds whilst Cynder was taken to be a servant of Malefor.
- Animation Style: 2D.
- OST Idea: 'Blayzing', which combines Blaze's name with the respelling of Cynder's name.
