History[]

One of the last surviving members of the Star Clan after the family of assassins was wiped out, Black☆Star was taken into the DWMA and raised by Sid Barrett. He would quickly become one of the top students at the academy. With him gaining Tsubaki Nakatsukasa as his weapon partner and becoming best friends with Soul "Eater" Evans. With great skill in both martial arts and weapon handling, Black☆Star quickly became determined to prove himself as the best, taking the spotlight wherever he could. Eventually encountering Mifune on his way to making Tsubaki a Death Scythe to be wielded by Lord Death himself. He would fight Mifune a total of three times, each time maturing and learning more about himself. Eventually committing himself to the Path of a Warrior in hopes of becoming a Warrior God able to surpass Shinigami themselves.

Fighting Style[]

Expert Martial Artist: Maka Albarn once stated that Black☆Star specialized in performing martial arts while Sid considered him to be a "true child of the martial way". This enables him to shift through various armed and unarmed martial styles depending on a given situation without thought. His skill in hand-to-hand enabled him to fight Death the Kid on two occasions, with one while under the effect of Madness Takehold and capable enough for a stalemate. In a spar against Franken Stein, he held his own against the more experienced teacher. His unarmed skills is on par with that of Feodor, who is a Death Weapon Meister, by the time he was in Spartoi.

Shadow Weapon Meister: Specializes in wielding many forms of Japanese weaponry which his partner, Tsubaki can take the form of. He has taken on and defeated Mifune twice, even if he held back the first time and utterly beat defeated him once, who was a master of the Infinite One-Sword Style which consisted of precisely launching swords for various complex attacks. Countering his style by adopting an irregular form of Waki-gamae, simply because it felt right. His skill with wielding demon weapons was great enough to let him take on Kishin Asura, who was hundreds of years old, granted with help from Maka and Kid. Kishin Asura even stated that he was scared of him.

Way of Assassination: A discipline Black☆Star and Tsubaki practice which entails one blending into the shadows, controlling their breathing, and predicting one's thoughts and actions to attain victory without their very existence being discovered, both utilizing this against Mifune.

  • Expert Hand to Hand Combat
    • Specializes in martial arts and has been described to seamlessly shift the flow and style of his attacks with little to no thought in between changing his fighting style. He is also extremely agile, being able to leap meters into the air and precisely dodge attacks at close and long range.
  • Masterful Shadow Weapon Wielder
    • One of the top students in the DWMA, capable of taking on master swordsmen in one on one combat and coming out on top.
  • Weapon/Partner: Tsubaki Nakatsukasa (Can turn into a Chain Scythe, Ninja Sword, Shuriken, Smoke Bomb, Dummy Star, and Uncanny Sword. Later adopts enhanced versions of these weapon transformations with more advanced abilities, boosted by the mastered Uncanny Sword.)

  • Enhanced Strength & Durability
    • Created a crater by stomping the ground in his first fight with Mifune
    • Easily cracked through a wall.
    • Tore through an entire mountain to get to Baba Yaga Castle.
    • Damaged Crona with his punches, even while they were fortified by their Black Blood which can envelop entire cities.
    • Lifted and tossed the moon’s tooth away from himself. This feat was so impressive, Maka likened him to a monster.
    • Dealt damage to and took attacks from Kishin Asura, managing to strike fear into him. In their fight, Asura stated him to be better than Death the Kid. With a broken arm and damaged spine, he managed to hold the Kishin in place for a fatal attack to be landed on him.
    • At the end of the series, Black☆Star has become powerful enough that even Kishin Asura cannot compete with him.
  • Super Speed
    • Can most faster than a well trained human eye can see, a feat that requires to be able to move well over 9,000 mphs, long before reaching his peak.
    • Tsubaki has forms tailored to dramatically increase his speed. Her Ninja Sword Mode and later Shadow☆Star Third Form: Severed Shadow can make him fast enough to blitz opponents who were before comparable to him. Severed Shadow even makes him fast enough to break away from his own shadow. Leaving behind afterimages with tangible mass.
    • He kept up with and killed Mifune, who could react to sniper rounds able to reach the moon in mere moments.
    • Reacted to and grabbed beams of light.
  • Supernatural Endurance
    • Stubbornly refused multiple times to fall unconscious despite being kicked directly in the pressure points in his neck with great force.
    • Barely slowed down after sustaining mortal injuries which included having his stomach stabbed, foot sliced open, and two of his fingers broken at once.
    • On the moon, he suffered a shattered arm as well as a broken spine and continued to stand and fight, even holding Kishin Asura in place for Maka to land Kishin Hunt one armed.
  • Heightened Senses: His five senses have showcased to be the most highly attuned of EAT Class, making him more reliable for searching for witches who use Soul Protect which hides their presence. This allowed him to sense Crona's footsteps from far away. His hearing is acute enough to make out a single far off scream over heavy rain which Tsubaki couldn’t. He could dodge swords within a paper's width. He has noted multiple times that he can see everything coming at him as well.
  • Wavelength Control: Black☆Star is noted to have a rather big soul, which he can control for a variety of purposes. When he and Tsubaki sync their Soul Wavelengths, the sounds of their souls, they can perform Soul Resonance. Giving him access to special moves and more powerful weapon transformations. And he can even weaponize his own wavelength by sending it into people. Emitting electricity from his hand as he strikes.
    • Soul Menace: Black☆Star charges his soul wavelength into his fist and punches his enemy.
    • Certain Kill: Black☆Star Big Wave: The move requires Black☆Star to use a fighting style similar to Soul Menace. Initially, it starts with an elbow strike to stun the enemy, then a powerful punch which sends a large amount of soul energy through the opponent’s body. Damaging their insides.
    • Planet Destruction Cannon: An upgraded version of Soul Authority which Black☆Star uses. The move is similar to his Certain Kill: Black☆Star Big Wave.
  • Shield☆Star: By using Soul Resonance with Tsubaki in her Chain Scythe form, Black☆Star creates a shield in the shape of a golden star for defense.
    • Shadow☆Star: Using Soul Resonance while Tsubaki is her Uncanny Sword mode, Black☆Star and Tsubaki manipulate Black☆Star's shadows and use them to repeatedly attack the enemy. This also grants Black☆Star the ability to create Shadow☆Star versions of Tsubaki's basic weapon forms.
    • Shadow☆Star: Checkmate Slash: A more powerful version of Shadow☆Star, that can only be conducted due to the increased resonance ratio granted through the use of a Chain Resonance. Using Soul Resonance while Tsubaki is in her Uncanny Sword form, Black☆Star and Tsubaki manipulate any shadows cast by Black☆Star, using them, initially, to restrain the target. When the target is captured, Tsubaki will pull the enemy towards Black☆Star, who will subsequently make a large slash that cuts through the trapped enemy.
  • Speed☆Star: By using Soul Resonance with Tsubaki, Black☆Star is able to move at extremely high speeds. To perform this technique Tsubaki must initially transform into her Ninja Sword form before they resonate with each other to greatly increase Black☆Star's speed, to the point where even his movements can't be seen, allowing him to perform both rapid attacks and defensive evasions.
  • Trap☆Star: By placing the chain of Tsubaki's Scythe Chain form in a star shape on the ground anything that enters the area will be instantly sensed by Black☆Star and bound in the chains before they can escape.
  • Shadow☆Star, First Form: Chain of Blackness: Black☆Star transmutes the sword into a wider sickle-like blade with a long black chain attached to the hilt. The sword can be swung like a blade-whip. Using this technique, not only does Black☆Star gain greater speed and strength, he also gains a wider attack range using the chain of the blade and the longer sickle-like shape.
  • Shadow☆Star, Second Form: Leaf of the Moonlit Night: While using Shadow☆Star, Black☆Star transmutes the sword into a large black shuriken. Went punching through the hole in the shuriken Black☆Star can unleash a powerful punch strengthen by his shadow which produces a large explosion. His can also cause the shuriken to rapidly spin went placing it on his wrist, and is able to use it to ward off multiple enemies.
  • Shadow☆Star, Third Form: Severed Shadow: While using Shadow☆Star, Black☆Star transmutes the sword into a large kunai-style dagger. Using this technique, Black☆Star moves at high speeds capable of shadow creating clone-like afterimages. Unlike regular afterimages, these images still contain mass, allowing Black☆Star to pull off numerous blows to his opponent from all angles.
  • Shadow☆Star, Fourth Form: Branched Darkness: While using Shadow☆Star, Tsubaki takes control of one of Black☆Star's afterimages made with Shadow☆Star: Third Form - Severed Shadow. The branched darkness has full mass and receives wavelength from Black☆Star.
  • Shadow☆Star, Zeroth Form: Masamune: While using Shadow☆Star, it converts Tsubaki's form to the original form of her brother's katana while shadows wrap around Black☆Star as a scarf. According to Black☆Star, the blade itself is heavier than that of a normal katana. Though Tsubaki can control its density. The scarf is able to solidify at will, meaning it is capable of cutting an opponent or even acting like another limb. Even letting Black☆Star reach above the clouds at its maximum length.
    • Shadow☆Star, Zeroth Form: Masamune Initiation Technique, Infinity: Black☆Star fires many swords, composed from a black shadow - like substance and can pierce and cut through the enemy.
    • Shadow☆Star, Zeroth Form: Masamune, God Slaying Attack: Black☆Star charges his own shadows with incredible power. He then leaps towards his opponent and strikes, manifesting a giant oni from the shadowy smoke as well as shadow-like swords and causes immense and devastating damage.
  • Possession: Although he never directly used this, he should have inherited the ability to possess one's soul and mind from Tsubaki's brother, Masamune. He can also use his soul wavelength to break other’s souls out of possession.
  • Madness of Power: A temporary transformation granted by coming in contact with The Great Old One's composition of dark liquid, which grants him great latent power of another at the cost of sanity, succumbing to the enticing prospects of power while neglecting anything else, as he’s are consumed by his own dormant insanity, as well as revealing his deepest desire. Being overwhelming strength.
  • Photokinesis: He has grabbed light as if it were purely physical, with no logical explanation other than him being a "super star beyond any human understanding".
  • Flight: After the fight on the moon, he achieved the power of flight completely on his own.
  • Resistances: As a meister, he can see through illusions by keeping calm and overcome attempts to control his mind or drive him into madness. Tsubaki was able to resist Masamune’s attempts to steal her soul, fighting him off and absorbing his instead. Black☆Star resisted Arachne Gorgon’s Madness Wavelength, which allowed her to force those under the influence to lose their minds, with the sensation of their head being ripped apart by tiny spiders and powerful enough to affect those such as Sid Barret, Medusa Gorgon, and most of the DWMA.

Feats[]

  • Fought and killed Mifune, who was noted to have the strength of ninety-nine human souls.
  • Resisted the Madness Wavelength of Arachne, which could affect even other meisters and make them feel like they were losing their minds.
  • Cracked through Crona’s Black Blood Armor and later caught and threw one of their attacks.
  • Ate a vajra blast (a laser with a lot of explosive force behind it).
  • Caught a laser capable of taking down a fortified airship and threw it back to the sender.

Flaws[]

  • His pride could initially be exposed easily. Making him forgo assassination in a fight. Though, he later matured and toned it down. Still maintaining his confidence, but acknowledging his own limitations more and letting others assist him.
  • Losing confidence can make him unable to use his Wavelength attacks.
  • Generally not all that smart, despite his honed reflexes. Though this is made up for by Tsubaki’s own intelligence. With her often advising him.
  • While he’s still highly capable, his power diminishes when he’s not holding a Demon Weapon.
