In the comic books[]
Damon McCready was an accountant who lived a boring life compared to the world he saw in the comic books that he collected. Deciding to give himself and his daughter, Mindy, a more interesting life, he basically kidnapped her and began training both of them to be real-life superheroes. He gave himself the alias of Big Daddy, and Mindy that of Hit-Girl.
To ensure Mindy’s cooperation, he brainwashed her to believe a fictional origin story, where her mother was killed by a Mafioso goons sent by real-life crime boss, John Genovese. Under his training, Big Daddy and Hit-Girl became very effective vigilantes, fighting crime for approximately ten years before they met Kick Ass.
In the movie, Kick Ass[]
Damon McCready was a police officer, who did not feel like he was making enough of a difference operating within the law. So, he left the police force, and built himself a new persona as Big Daddy, a masked vigilante. McCready was already an expert marksman and martial artist, and he has been working to make his daughter at least as capable as himself.

Big Daddy is never seen without his costume, though it can be seen that he is of medium height, and has brown hair. His costume consists of a red shirt and pants, body armor, a brown or red mask and a black trench coat.
In the movie, Kick Ass[]
In the movie, his costume is all-black armor, with a back cape, and a gold-colored utility belt. It appears very similar to Batman’s costume, but lacks any sort of emblem.

Big Daddy has no real superpowers, but he is a proficient martial artist, and he is skilled with firearms.

- Colt M1911A1 – This .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol comes stock with a seven round magazine, but it can be fitted with a larger magazine. Big Daddy does not appear to have used a larger magazine.
- Chainsaw - On a comic book cover, Big Daddy is shown wielding a chainsaw, but he is never shown doing so inside the book.
In the movie, Kick Ass[]
- Beretta 92F/FS – This .38 caliber semiautomatic pistol comes with a fifteen round magazine.
