History[]
Barnabas Collins was born in 1770 into a wealthy family in Collinsport, Maine. In the early 1790s, while travelling to the Island of Martinique on family business, he met and fell in love with a French woman named Josette DuPres. Unfortunately, Barnabas also had a brief affair with Josette’s maidservant, Angelique Bouchard, who fell obsessively in love with him.
Barnabas asked Josette to marry him, and the two were to be married in the family mansion, called Collinwood. When Josette arrived in Maine, she had brought Angelique along. Angelique begged Barnabas to abandon Josette and marry her instead, but Barnabas was in love with Josette and would not leave her.
Unknown to anyone there, Angelique was actually a powerful witch, and she began working to separate Barnabas and Josette. When her efforts failed, Angelique placed a curse on Barnabas, and he was subsequently attacked by a large bat, died, and came back as a vampire. The nightmare of what Barnabas had become practically destroyed the Collins family, but Barnabas’s father, Joshua Collins, could not bring himself to kill him. Instead, he had him bound within his coffin, in a secret room in the family mausoleum, with the idea that he would stay there for all eternity.
In 1967, a Collins family servant, named Willie Loomis, discovered the hidden room and unwittingly released Barnabas. Barnabas went to Collinwood, and presented himself as a descendant of the 18th Century Barnabas Collins, claiming that Barnabas has gone to England and had a family there.
Since his return to the mortal world, Barnabas has been a more kind man than he was before his confinement. He must feed off of human blood, but he tries to be as kind as possible. He has become a protector of the Collins family, though his very presence has sometimes put the family in danger. He is still the persistent target of the immortal Angelique Bouchard, who still wants his love after all these years.

Barnabas appears as a tall and attractive man, with dark brown hair and somewhat pale skin. He acts and dresses in a formal manner, always wearing a tie and jacket. He carries a peculiar cane, which has a solid silver handle formed into the appearance of a wolf’s head. When he travels abroad, his preferred coat is an Inverness Cape coat.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Immortality - He is apparently immortal. He spent almost two hundred years locked in his coffin, and came out substantially unchanged.
- Hypnosis - If Barnabas can get a target to look into his eyes, he can transfix them, and make them subject to his commands.
- Shapeshifter - At will, Barnabas is able to turn himself into a vampire bat.
Flaws and Weaknesses[]
- He does not tire at night, but as the sun rises, he gets increasingly sleepy, and lapses into a coma-like state. During this time, he will give every appearance of being truly dead.
