~ Barbatos - Dark Nights: Metal #3 (October, 2017) |
“ | Yes. The truth is, you are nothing without me. You are plain. Less than plain. This place, my realm, it is full of worlds created from fears and failings, and you... You have more than any other hero, my son. Whole galaxies of worlds built by the unspoken terrors in your heart. I showed you three, but there are thousands. Look around you. People think you are a great hero of humanity. Maybe the greatest. They strive to be like you, all because I willed it. So, when your true nature was revealed, they would shrink back to the dark. Now look! LOOK! Because this is who you are without my help. They are the real you, Bruce. I picked the ones I needed... the darkest ones... and I brought them through the window. Look at them! | „ |

History[]
Barbatos is the creation of the World Forger, the being responsible for creating universes in the DC multiverse. Whenever unstable universes were created, Barbatos would devour it so their energy would return to the "Forge of Worlds." Eventually, however, Barbatos gained a lust for death & destruction and killed the World Forger and use the Forge for his own purposes, wholly neglecting the unstable universes being created as a result. Barbatos soon sets his sights on the main multiverse, becoming worshipped as a god by the "Tribe of Judas," who would become the precursors to the Court of Owls. Around time, he would come across a time-displaced Bruce Wayne (a.k.a. Batman), sent back in time by Darkseid during the Final Crisis. Inspired by their use of the same motif, that of a bat, Barbatos decided to use Wayne as means to fully manifest in the main multiverse. By the time of the modern day, when Bruce was finally brought back to the present, Barbatos and the Court went to work; the Court trying to infect him with the five native metals of the Dark Multiverse (Nth metal, Promethium, Dionesium, Electrum, and what would be become known as "Batmanium"), and Barbatos recruited one of the worst Bruce Waynes in the Dark Multiverse, the Batman Who Laughs, to his cause - who in turn recruited a whole slew of evil Batmen which would become known as the Dark Knights. The invasion finally began when Batman walked into a trap and was infected with the final metal, allowing a portal to the Dark Multiverse to form. Despite all these plans & machinations, however, Barbatos was ultimately defeated by the combined efforts of the Justice League, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Deathstroke, Plastic Man, and even the Joker when the League found & utilized a "Tenth metal" to defeat him & the Dark Knights. In the end, the surviving Knights retreated, and Barbatos was wrapped in Tenth metal chains to the reignited World Forge by the Over-Monitor, forced to watch it burn bright forevermore.
