Boomstick: Batman from Batman: Arkham’s universe.

Batmanintro

Wiz: We’ve seen these two masked superheroes brawl it out before using their comic book origins.

Boomstick: But these video game variations have a few unique tricks up their sleeve. Will this change the outcome of this iconic match?

Wiz: Let’s unmask this debate once and for all.

Boomstick: He’s Wiz, and I’m Boomstick.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... A DEATH BATTLE!

Insomiac’s Spider-Man swings back into DEATH BATTLE![]

Boomstick: Ah, who doesn’t love the web-head? Everyone knows the story of how Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider and, after one too many dead uncles, begun fighting crime and saving lives as a superhero: Spider-Man.

Wiz: However, following a few years into Spider-Man’s tenure, this version of Spider-Man had quite a different tale to spin, pun not intended.

Boomstick: Living in New York City, the young adult Peter manages to finally stop Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, and his reign on NY’s crime scene.

Wiz: With criminals more scattered than ever, Spider-Man must face down against some of his deadliest foes, the Sinister Six!

Boomstick: Eventually lead by Doc Ock. I’m not crying, you’re crying.

Wiz: Of course, Peter would soon figure out that he is, in fact, not alone. As a young Miles Morales also obtains Spider-Powers around this same time.

Boomstick: So Peter begins training Miles in how to be a real Spider-Man. And by train him, I mean go on vacation while leaving Miles to deal with his own crisis.! Classic Spidey!

Wiz: Still, Peter would return and now fight alongside Miles following his trip. Of course, real life troubles always catch up with Peter. He needs to make time for MJ and his job after all.

  • Defeated:
    • Kingpin
    • The Sinister Six
      • Mister Negative
      • Electro
      • Scorpion
      • Vulture
      • Rhino
      • Doc Ock
    • Tombstone
    • Kraven The Hunter
    • Lizard
    • Sandman
    • Cameleon
    • Mysterio
    • Venom (With Help)

Boomstick: Peter and Miles have taken on all sorts of villains in the past, and of course the signature Spider-Sense gives them advantages going into almost everything.

Wiz: Not everything, as even this version of Spider-Man couldn’t resist the black Venom suit. With this, Spidey became even more powerful.

Boomstick: Of course, like always, it came with a cost. Peter began drifting away from the friends and family he cared the most about, and eventually, with Miles’ help, let the symbiote go, letting it attach to… Harry Osborn? Wait, what about Eddie?!

Wiz: Seems Eddit Brock was a bit too late in this universe. Additionally, Peter wouldn’t completely loose the Venom Symbiote this time around. After some help from the newly redeemed Mister Negative, Spider-Man now has access to the Anti-Venom suit.

Boomstick: This bad boy, apart from looking like the Future Foundation suit on steroids, gives Spidey all of his deadly Venom Symbiote powers without any of the moral drawbacks. Pretty sweet if you ask me. Plus, unlike the comics, these Symbiotes aren't weak to fire at all!

Wiz: Spider-Man has tons of web types, like the Electric Webs, Web Drones, and Concusive Blasts. All of which can take out foes in moments. He even has the Web Wings, which allow him to glide through the air in-between swinging.

  • Web Types/Equipment:
    • Basic Webs
    • Impact Webs
    • Web Drones
    • Electric Webs
    • Web Bombs
    • Trip Mines
    • Concusive Blast
    • Suspension Matrix
    • Web Wings

Boomstick: And he’s still got the classic Spider-Man powers, like Super Strength, Speed, and Enhanced Reflexes. Still, with all that power comes… A lot of work. So, for now, Peter is deciding to hang up the suit for a bit, and leave the role to Miles.

Wiz: Knowing that New York is in safe hands with Miles as Spider-Man, Peter enjoys a life of calm, for now. After all, Peter Parker’s thirst for crime fighting is never tempered for long. He is, and likely will always be, the Amazing Spider-Man.

Arkham Batman rises into DEATH BATTLE![]

Wiz: In Gotham City, the most criminal-ridden city in the world, a dark defender lurks in the shadows.

Boomstick: Watching his parents die when he was but a child, Bruce Wayne grew up to dawn of the mask of the Dark Knight: Batman.

Wiz: Most people know at least that much of the story, but this version of Batman’s tale plays out a little differently. During one of their many twisted games, The Joker hatches a plot to take over Arkham Asylum, and trap Batman inside. Now, Batman must face down his many, many enemies from over the years.

Boomstick: Luckily, like most versions of Batman, this guy is one bad-ass criminal hunter. In his time at Arkham, Batman takes down some of his iconic villains, like Scarecrow and his fear toxin, Killer Croc, and beefed up versions of Poison Ivy and Bane! Woah!

Wiz: Indeed. The Titan drug, a more powerful version of the Venom drug that Bane uses, is able to power up Batman’s usual array of foes. Still, Batman defeats them all the same. Hell, it even turns the Joker into a giant Titan monster, which Batman of course defeats.

Boomstick: But if you thought that would be the end for Bats, you’d be wrong. He goes down a spiral with the Titan Drug, and is forced to confront it’s deadly effects multiple times. Batman always comes out on top, though

Wiz: He’s taken on Two Face, Penguin, Solomon Grundy, Ra's al Ghul, Clayface, Deathstroke, Electrocutioner, Copperhead, an even MORE beefed-up version of Bane-

Boomstick: And this… Guy… Is that Batman too?

Wiz: Close, that is the Arkham Knight. In reality, it’s Jason Todd, who became a Batman rip-off to release something called a cloudburst. Batman of course stops all of these foes.

Boomstick: Wait, Jason became Arkham Knight? Why wasn’t he Red Hood?

Wiz: Beats me, though my best guess is the color Red isn’t exactly subtle or mysterious.

Boomstick: Really!? Red is definitely mysterious! Clearly you have never met me!

(...)

Wiz: ..What..?

Boomstick: J-Just forget it! Look, this Batman can dodge projectiles coming from behind him, and use detective vision to make advanced deductions.

  • Equipment:
    • Batarang
      • Sonic
      • Thermal
      • Remote Control
      • Explosive
    • Gloves
      • Shock
      • Thermal
    • Explosive Gel
    • Freeze Blast
    • Fear Toxin
    • Disruptor
    • Gliding Cape

Wiz: He can even see through walls by recalling what that room looked like. He has many different Batarangs, gloves, and various gadgets taken from his foes that he can use to gain an edge in a fight He can freeze foes with a Freeze Blast, Make them hallucinate with the Fear Toxin, or even take out electronics with the disruptor, and many more.

Boomstick: Nothing compares to the sheer badassery that is the XE Suit! Made to withstand the extreme conditions of Mr. Freeze and other dangerous villains, the XE is packing some heat, literally!

Wiz: He’s armed with his full set of thermal gear, and able to apply immense heat with his fists and hands. Plus, don’t let the suit’s bulky appearance fool you, as Batman isn’t weight down at all thanks to the suit’s honey comb padding.

Boomstick: Even without that suit, this Batman is no joke. He is at peak physical human strength, and could even somehow react to rockets and dodge bullets! That’s not really possible, but hey, it happened, so it’s canon. Plus, like most versions of Batman, he’s a damn genius!

  • Feats:
    • Defeated countless skilled martial artists
    • Figured out every single Riddler puzzle
    • Managed to find a solution to every single Joke situation
    • Genius intellectual deductions
    • Kicked and shattered doors, walls, and tables with no physical enhancements
    • Somehow survived various situations that would kill normal humans

Wiz: He’s deduced every single mystery thrown his way, and it always 3 steps ahead of his enemies. Honestly, much like most versions of Batman, this guy is way more superhuman than he should be. He’s done more superhuman stuff than most Marvel Superheroes. It’s insane!

Boomstick: Still, the streets of Gotham remain just a bit safer thanks to Batman. The Titan Drug, Arkham Knight, nothing can stop the Dark Knight from cleaning the streets of every part of Gotham. Even Arkham.

Pre-DEATH BATTLE![]

Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set and we’ve run the data through all possibilities.

Boomstick: It’s time for a DEATH BATTLE!!

DEATH BATTLE![]

(Opens on a dark nighttime city street in an ambiguous city. Civilians are running away at the sight of a deadly supervillian terrorizing the city. Soon, a group of webs fling from off-screen, and Spider-Man swings in and captures the crook.)

Spider-Man: Alright Yuri, I got this guy. Now…

(Spider-Man lets the webs on his mouth go, questioning the criminal.)

Spider-Man: Who’s producing the T-O Virus?!

???: Let me take care of this.

(Spidey turns around to see Batman, cloaked by night, walking up to the two. His cape dramatically flows through the wind. Spider man seemingly rolls his eyes.)

Spider-Man: Look, fruit bat. I get the whole detective thing but I’m already on the case.

Batman: That doesn’t matter, this city is mine to protect. And part of me is suspecting you might be more of a threat than a hero.

Spider-Man: Excuse me?

Batman: Your rampent swinging and destructive nature is a threat to the city and it’s people.

Spider-Man: Oh yeah? Well…

(Spider-Man fully gives Batman his attention, taking a fighting pose. Batman does similarly.)

Spider-Man: Come and catch me!

(Fight! Spider-Man thwips two web ropes to two buildings aside from him, sending himself feet-first towards Batman, a sort of gravity-defying drop kick. Batman catches his feet on impact, grabbing them and throwing Spidey to the ground.)

Spider-Man: Gah! Ouch…

Batman: I have more in store for you than “ouch.”

(Batman lets Spidey get up before engaging in a fist fight. Batman is expertly evading and striking Spider-Man, but Spidey manages to land one hook, which sends Batman back quite a bit.)

Spider-Man: Call me a hypocrite, but I wouldn’t be so full of yourself!

(Spider-Man sends a Spider-Drone out, trying to concuss Batman from afar while looking for a plan of attack. Batman uses his disruptor, frying the drone almost instantly. Spider-Man notices Batman’s counter to his attack and twips a web away, swinging to gain some distance.)

(Batman uses his trusty grapple hook to follow Spidey through the street-light lit streets. Spider-Man turns around to see this, his Spider-sense tingling. He quickly moves out of the way of 3 Batarangs, and sends a Web-Bomb towards Batman.)

(Little did Spidey realize, the last Batarang was remote control, and came right back around to hit him in the face, knocking him from his web swing. Spider-Man quickly regains air control, using his Web Wings to glide away from landing. Batman similarly uses his cape to glide right above Spider-Man.)

Spider-Man: No fair!

(Spider-Man goes for a risky maneuver, gliding towards a building nearby building to latch onto it. He stops briefly on the side of the wall, letting Batman pass him, much to Bruce’s shock. Spider-Man sends an Impact Web at Batman’s wings, which cut right through his cape and send Batman falling.)

(Bats thinks quickly, and grapples to a nearby building, swinging just above the ground and throwing an Explosive Batarang to the building Peter is latched on to. Spider-Man jumps off, landing back on the streets of the city, and Batman landing on a rooftop above.)

Spider-Man: You’re pretty good. What are your powers?

Batman: My powers? Simple.

(Batman quickly uses a Freeze Blast to Spidey, freezing his leg to the ground. Spider-Man is confused on why he can be stopped by this. Batman begins slowling grappling down to the street to meet Spidey face to face.)

Batman: I’m rich.

(Batman begins pummeling the stuck Spider-Man. Spidey tries fighting back, even using his Electric Webs to try and stun Batman. Batman is briefly shocked, both mentally and literally, and Spidey uses a concusive blast to send Batman flying back into a building.)

(Spidey struggles to break out from the frozen leg, but he ice shatters as a white substance flows around his leg.)

Spider-Man: I didn’t want to have to do this… But you just won’t give up. That’s fine, doesn’t matter to us.

(The white substance covers Peter’s whole suit, turning him into the Anti-Venom. Batman is puzzled by exactly what he is looking at.)

Batman: Some kind of adhesive material? No, but it seems alive.

Spider-Man: I’ll show you alive!

(Spidey uses the Anti-Venom to attack Bats with the large tendrils of the symbiote. Batman tries dodging or getting out of the way, but cant seem to fully escape. The tendrils trip up his leg, allowing Spidey to throw Batman into another building. As the rubble clears, Batman is greatly injured, but makes it out.)

Spider-Man: Same wall trick again? My bad.

(Spidey tries to send the tendrils at him again, but Bats uses a Thermal Batarang to stop them. Suddenly, the Symbiote seems to be uneffected by the heat. Batman throws out more normal Batarangs and eventually at Sonic Batarang. Suddenly, the Sonic Pulses start causing the symbiote to repulse back. A lightbulb goes off in Bruce’s head, and his quickly grapples back up to the high-ground of a building, where he uses a communicator to call something in.)

Spider-Man: Oh no you don’t!

(Spider-Man tries to follow him, but the large metal container lands in time, and Batman steps out in the XE Suit. Peter tries to attack Batman with the Symbiote again, but Batman uses his Shock gloves to stop that. The Symbiotes is repulsed by this. Spider Man tries piercing the XE suit’s armor, but his webs are burned off.)

Batman: Sonic Sound, Freezing. Vital weakness. Everyone has them. I just manage to cover mine up.

Spider-Man: You don't- You don’t say!

(Spider-Man tries letting the tendrils attack Batman from behind, but he notices this and uses Explosive Gel to explode the Symbiote that was sent to him. The symbiote is unaffected, but contact wit the shock gloves causes them to shrivil. Batman runs at Spidey for a final assault. He throws a remote Batarang behind him, just in case, as Spider-Man attempts his escape from the situation.)

(Batman tries to use his grapple hook to hold Spider-Man from swinging away. Spidey looks back and uses his Symbiote to cut off the hook.)

Spider-Man: Come on!

(Spidey turns around, but is so focused on the grapple hook, that he gets hit with the Barang square in the face. Turns out, that was just what Batman needed to grab Spider-Man by the suit, his Shock gloves electrifying through the Symbiote and getting the red suit underneat, and slamming him to the ground. Batman holds up his thermal fists and looks Spidey in the eyes, superhero to superhero.)

Batman: You had a good run, Spider-Man.

(Batman punches Spidey square in the face, burning through his skin, and leaving him on the ground with a charred and cratered skull. Batman turns to the city, his cape flowing in the wind yet again. He looks out to see some supervillian, likely one of Spider-Man’s, causing trouble nearby. He holds his hand out to an earpiece on his suit.)

Batman: Alfred, collect Spider-Man. I’ll send my coordinates.

(With that, Batman jumps off into the night.)

Conclusion[]

K.O!

Boomstick: How is the first time Batman has won on our show with a weaker version than the comics?

Wiz: Well, that's only if you don't count Fanons.

Boomstick: What-?

Wiz:-Huh? Look, 4th wall aside, I’m just as shocked as you are. On a surface level, the power difference between the two seems to be just as wide as their comic counterparts. Spider-Man is superhuman after all, and Batman isn’t.

Boomstick: However, surprisingly enough, when it came down to these two versions, having superpowers isn’t the only deciding factor. Even then, Arkham Knight’s version of Batman shows off abilities that shouldn’t be possible, like reacting to and dodging bullets and even faster projectiles.

Wiz: Still, no one is denying that Spider-Man was physically stronger and faster, but that wasn’t the whole story. It’s actually the way that these two specific version of these characters clashed that gave Batman the edge. Firstly, Batman was clearly much smarter than Spidey.

Boomstick: Sure, Peter Parker is an intelligent guy with serious robotics skills, but in a fight most of his combat is wrestling moves. They are pretty cool, sure, but Batman is much more seasoned fighter, and has easily taken down opponents much more skilled and often more physically strong than Spidey, like Bane or Titan Joker.

Wiz: That’s a key factor. Sure, Spidey is physically stronger than Bats, but you can say that for literally any of Batman’s foes that have superpowers. What is important is that Batman still beats all of them. And these aren’t just villains of the week for Spider-Man either. Mr. Freeze managed to cause a freeze over of Gotham City, and Scarecrow’s fear toxin cause widespread havoc.

Boomstick: Not to mention many of Spider-Man’s skills had direct counters from Batman’s tools. His disruptor could disable most gadgets Spidey threw at him, his spidey-sense has shown no resistance to something like the fear toxin, and the Anti-Venom symbiote wasn’t exactly a sure fire win condition.

(Corner note: Peter has many other suits with various abilities, but he hasn’t used one in canon with enough proficiency to put it on as quickly as the XE Suit. Even the Anti-Ock Suit would likely be unavailable to him in the middle of a fight, unlike the Anti-Venom Symbiote.)

Wiz: Though this Venom Symbiote isn’t weak to flames like many, it’s not resistant either, simply uneffected. It’s likely the thermal effects of the XE Suit would have as similar effect as any normal enemy. Plus, his Sonic Batarangs directly counter the Symbiote, and the Freeze blast don’t hurt to have either. Hell, ironically enough, the Venom Sting from Miles was effective against Venom. It would be natural that the shock gloves and electric batarangs would have a similar effect. Given enough time, it’s not out of the question Batman could wear down Peter and take a win, much like his other various superpowered enemies.

Boomstick: But would he ever get the chance to do that? Actually, yes!

Wiz: While Spider-Man can predict to unpredictable attacks with the Spidey-Sense, is very obviously not perfect. Spider-Man is often shocked by attacks when pre-occupied. It’s not unlikely that Batman could find an opening fast enough to use one of his many, many superhuman-beating weapons and abilites.

Boomstick: Plus abilites like the Freeze Blast and Explosive Gel give Bats the chance to slow Spidey down, just long enough to secure a victory. And even if we know heat wouldn’t weaken it, Batman has dealt with characters of similar texture consistancy to Venom. Just look at Clayface. Who's saying that the methods he used to defeat Clayface would work on Spider-Man’s Anti-Venom, even if the Venom Symbiote is resistant to the effects of the thermal XE Suit.

Wiz: As surprising as it is, trust me, we were expecting the opposite result, Arkham’s Batman had just about everything he needed to finally conquer the Spectacular Spider-Man.

Boomstick: It was finally Bruce’s turn to give Peter a bat-beating that will surely stick.

Wiz: The Winner is Batman.
