History[]

Mobius is the creation of the Super-Celestial Perpetua, the custodian of the DC multiverse, along with his brothers Mar Novu & Alpheus. Alpheus became the World Forger, responsible for actually creating universes; Mar Novu was the Over-Monitor, charged with watch over the positive-matter universe; and Mobius became an agent of destruction, assigned to make sure the light of Perpetua's multiverse didn't reach the larger omniverse by destroying universes with antimatter. One day, however, Perpetua went insane at the prospect of dying, and sought to use her multiverse as a weapon against the source and her fellow Super-Celestials. Discovering this, the three brothers created the Source Wall in order keep her out. This was things went downhill for Mobius, as the Source Wall made his purpose obsolete.

Enraged, Mobius went back to a unique universe where he was created in, one made of antimatter instead of positive matter. Seeking to discover how it was created, Mobius stumbled upon something he shouldn't have. He had found the Anti-Life Equation, the very source of power whose acquisition would be the driving goal of the New God rule of Apokolips, Darkseid. Cursed by the Equation, Mobius would be driven to destructive madness and became one of the next biggest multiversal threat after his mother, the Anti-Monitor. Going on a warpath, the Anti-Monitor conquered Qward and created a legion of troops to serve at his beck and call, the Thunderers, the most trusted of which were transformed into the terrifying Shadow Demons. The Anti-Monitor would go into a millions of years-long war against his brother Mar Novu, ending with them going into hibernation.

However, billions of years later, the Anti-Monitor would be awakened once again by the foolish actions of a scientist named Kell Mossa, who created an antimatter cube in order to study how the universe was created, and saw Perpetua's hand creating the original universe. This awakened both Mar Novu & the Anti-Monitor, the latter of whom used the antimatter inside the cube to destroy Mossa's native universe, leaving the scientist as its last remaining remnant. This strengthened the Anti-Monitor and weakened Novu, inspiring Mobius to consume all positive matter universes in order to become as powerful as possible. This whole series of events set off the Crisis on Infinite Earths, which would see the first major reconstruction of the DC multiverse and the temporary death of the Anti-Monitor.
