History[]

Altair was a man of stark contrast and sharpened common sense. When he was 10 years old, he was visited by the father of his friend, later enemy, Abbas Sofian. The man begged Altair to forgive him for the treachery he committed on his family; it was the first time he saw blood when Abbas' father committed suicide, dying to regain his honor; a secret he never told Abbas until the latter's death. He was later adopted in the Assassin Brotherhood as one of their own, and became the youngest Master Assassin at age 19.

Unfortunately, his arrogance got the better of him; he broke all three tenets of the Creed: killing an innocent person, attacked the Templars directly, and inadvertently led them to their secret hideout in Masyaf. Though he had saved the Brotherhood from Templar invasion, he was presumed killed and demoted to novice by Al Mualim, the Mentor at the time. Over time, Altair would grow with humility and respect, having eliminated all 9 Templars, though he had spared one of them; a woman named Maria Thorpe; Maria would later become Altair's wife after they had an affair in Acre. After killing Robert de Sable, the 9th Templar, he revealed that Al Mualim was the 10th Templar; Mualim used Altair to get rid of the 9 Templars so that they wouldn't contest his gain for the Apple.

Altair confronted Al Mualim with this revelation. Despite Mualim's reliance on the Apple to keep Altair away, he was ultimately killed, the Apple now laid out in the open. However, Altair could not bring himself to destroy the Apple, having grown an interest for it's hidden knowledge. He became the Mentor himself after preventing infighting amongst his fellow Assassins and seizing the Apple from an emotional Abbas. However, his reign as Mentor was challenging, given that Abbas frequently contested his rule, and Maria birthed two sons, one of whom Abbas had murdered as leverage against Altair, and he continued creating knowledge proven beneficial for future Assassins in the centuries to come. However, Abbas usurped him of his title as Mentor, resulting in the death of Maria and his self-imposed exile.

As an old man, Altair returned to reclaim his title as Mentor with the help of a few Assassins still loyal to the Creed; he killed Abbas and made peace in the latter's final moments.

He later spent his final years fending off Mongol invaders, mentoring Italian adventurer Niccolo Polo and making peace in the vault containing the Apple of Eden, dying of old age. He was later discovered by Ezio as a skeleton.
