Description[]
Mallow VS Lillie VS Lana! As Ash arrived in Alola, he did not get a female companion like he usually does when beginning a new journey. He got 3 of them instead. Who is the most skilled trainer though of these 3? Mallow, Lillie, or Lana?
Intro[]
Wiz: Ash Ketchum is a Pokémon Trainer that has defined a generation and who many have grown up watching the adventures of. His traveling companions that he has journeyed across each Pokémon region with are also very impressive in their own right ranging all the way from Misty to Goh. During each journey, Ash is usually accompanied by 1 female traveling companion.
Boomstick: The visit to the Alola region was a bit different than the others however. Instead of adding just 1 girl to his unofficial harem, Ash was accompanied by 3 female traveling companions as he faced his greatest threat yet; Pokémon School!
Wiz: Mallow, Future Owner of Aina's Kitchen
Boomstick: Lillie, Daughter of the President of the Aether Foundation
Wiz: and Lana, The Water Trainer that Managed to Reel in a Kyogre with a Fishing Rod.
Boomstick: In order to get the girls to show their maximum potential without outside interference, we will only be giving them their Pokémon teams that they possessed at the end of the Sun and Moon series.
Wiz: That means no Ride Pokémon like the ones from the Aether Foundation that have been borrowed in the past since they technically don’t belong to them or released Pokémon like Mallows Shaymin that left at the end of the Sun and Moon.
Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.
Mallow[]
Wiz: The first of Ash’s female classmates is Mallow. She is a friendly and outgoing girl whose family runs the local restaurant called the Aina Kitchen. While Mallow is the most levelheaded of her class, she can go a bit overboard herself when it comes to performing cooking experiments due to her upbringing and dream of wanting to make the family restaurant into the most popular one in Alola.
Boomstick: All this talk of food is making me hungry. It’s too bad I can’t taste whatever food she has learned to cook up. The Melemele Island guardian deity Tapu Koko was certainly not disappointed with her food making skills.
Wiz: Mallow’s skills for making delicious food for people and Pokemon alike is indeed something to be admired but her skills as a trainer is not half bad either. She made it through a 151 trainer battle royale and became ranked among the 16 top trainers in the first Alola league after all. Misty, one of Kantos top gym leaders, even stated once that Mallow had a good sense for battles after she and her childhood Lana both lost a tag team battle against the water gym leader.
Boomstick: Not really surprising since unlike the games where they were both Trial Captains, them simply being schoolgirls in the anime made it very doubtful that they could actually defeat a top tier gym leader like Misty. Does not mean however that the Pokemon chef does not have any decent Pokemon. Mallow’s partner might be a little to girly for my taste though.
Wiz: The grass type Pokemon Tsareena might not look like much to brag about but this female Pokemons skill and strength is nothing to scoff at. With moves like Stomp and Trop Kick for performing powerful strikes with her feet and Double Slap for striking opponents’ multiple times in a row, this final evolved form of a Bounsweet is not to be taken lightly.
Boomstick: Other moves of the kicking fruit Pokemon include unleashing razor-sharp leaves with Magical Leaf and………releasing an extremely sweet scent with a flick of her "hair" by using Sweet Scent? I get how really sharp leaves can assist in battle but how is a sickly-sweet smell going to drive away opponents?
Wiz: The answer is simple. Mallow has never really used this move in a Pokemon battle. In the past, this move has been used the majority of the time to attract other Pokemon or assist in making extremely delicious dishes.
Boomstick: If it can make delicious food dishes even more delicious, then the move is OK in my book. I am more exited for a good battle in this moment however so let’s go over the fruit Pokemons stats. Overpowering and intercepting a Rocket powered mechanical fist courtesy of a Team Rocket mech is nothing to sneeze at.
Wiz: Tsareena is strong enough to send a 292.1 lb Cloyster flying into the air with a kick and pin Kiawes boulder destroying Marowak to the ground while also fast enough to out speed an Alolan Persian that was fast enough to dodge Pikachu's thunderbolt.
Boomstick: Its durability is also really impressive seeing as this girly plant creature could get sent flying by the legendary Pokemon Necrozma's prismatic laser and not be disintegrated on the spot. In comparison, getting back up on her feet right away after being kicked by a Pheromosa who could defeat a Hariyama capable of sending a 10 ton truck flying is not as impressive.
Wiz: Its prior evolution Steenee was able to pop Lana’s Popplios balloon that has been able to withstand several Pokemon falling on to it and bouncing them away before breaking apart. This is proof that Mallows Pokemon partner has always been a strong and capable fighter even if it’s not much of a battler.
Boomstick: That fact does not bother neither trainer or Pokemon due to the sisterly bond they share. Their sheer unfaltering trust in each other has made them come out on top many times in spanking the behind of their opponents and killing people’s tastebuds with deliciousness.
Wiz: This impressive trust is well earned as they have been partners ever since Mallow was a small child. The result of this trust and experience allows Mallow and Tsareena to unleash their full powers in combination with using a certain item.
Boomstick: You’re referring to the Pokemon chefs Z-Ring correct? Combined with that Grassnium Z crystal she received due to Tapu Koko excellent review of her food, the opposing Pokemon will soon be in for a blooming painful time as these special rings and crystals allow trainers to unleash devastating moves.
Wiz: You’re correct Boomstick. The moves called Z-moves are so powerful and draining that only one of these moves can be used in a Pokemon battle. Mallows Grassnium Z allows Tsareena to unleash Bloom Doom which covers the entire battlefield in flowers and summons a beam of energy out of the sky. With this Z-move, Mallow and Tsareena managed to clash with Lana’s Primarina's Z-move and later both of their Z-moves combined with Lillie and the rest of their friends pushed a Guzzlord backwards into an Ultra Wormhole.
Boomstick: Speaking of that battle with Lana’s star water Pokemon, this is where things start going downhill for this future restaurant owner. Being in the possession of a grass Pokemon with resistance towards water, electric, and ground attacks while weak to fire, bug, flying, poison, and ice attacks should have made it an piece of cake to stomp Lana’s Primarina. The answer is not as clearcut however.
Wiz: Despite having the type advantage and shown itself possessing strength capable of matching the power of Primarina blow for blow along with dodging incoming attacks, Tsareena still lost due to a combination of Icy Wind and Aqua Jet.
Boomstick: The duo kind of got bodied in that battle in all honesty. Losing with a type advantage present on their side must hurt. If Lana had not been a really good friend and them being gracious losers, the pokechef and fruitmon might have taken this loss extremely hard.
Wiz: Luckily for Mallow, her passion in making people happy with her food is more important than winning a Pokemon battle. She and Tsareena acting like big sisters to the rest of her classmates and their Pokemon makes it clear that Mallow is a good person.
Boomstick: I doubt Tsareena feels that way towards Ash’s Rowlet. Their scenes are comedy gold.
Wiz: Whether it involves making food or participating in a Pokemon battle, Mallow and Tsareena is going to make you have a deliciously good time.
Mallow: I love the happy looks on people's faces when they eat something tasty! I want to keep on living by making my customers look like that too!
Lillie[]
Boomstick: Second up on the list of Alola girls that the immortal 10-year old has befriended is Lillie. Being the daughter of the president of the Aether Foundation, Lillie had a rather good childhood until a certain incident occurred that traumatized the poor girl to the point of being unable to touch Pokemon for a long time. Before anyone asks, it was not Lusamines fault as she is much more of saint in the anime in comparison the crazy lunatic she is in the games. It did involve almost being killed by an Ultra Beast and her father seemingly disappearing forever though.
Wiz: Thanks to her classmates, this trauma is now in the past where it belongs. Even when she was still traumatized, Lillie showed a love for Pokemon and learning more about them. She is knowledgeable in so many different areas that she can device new Pokemon food recipes, treat serious injuries, and knows a lot of scientific facts about everything ranging from normal to legendary Pokemon.
Boomstick: This intelligence has also helped a lot when it comes to Pokemon battles. Despite being scarily lacking in confidence before being un traumatized, she has gotten to a point where she ranked among the 16 top trainers in the first Alola league just like the Pokechef and managed to give her brother a tiny bit more of a challenge than he expected even if she lost in the end. Gladion scored 2nd in the tournament so him beating his sister is not that surprising especially when you consider she kind of started this whole training mons to fight stuff very late compared to most people in this world.
Wiz: Starting her Pokemon trainer journey a bit later than most due to her traumatizing past does indeed make her a bit inexperienced in comparison to her classmates. Lillie has gotten a lot better as time has gone by however and its mostly thanks to Snowy the Alolan Vulpix…
Boomstick:….AKA a lazy white simple recolor instead of something different like the very memeable Alolan Exeggutor.
Wiz: Snowy came into Lillie’s possession as an egg during a school assignment and has been a constant loyal companion of her trainer even since hatching. Her kind personality has helped Lillie become more confident while her freezing –58 degrees Fahrenheit firepower have made a difficult time for the Pokemons opponents so Snowy being a recolor does not matter much in Lillie’s eyes.
Boomstick: The fact that this ice fox can literally freeze both Pokemon and humans alike in comical blocks of ice or cause them to wish they had taken ice skating lessons by freezing the ground very much do increase my interest in acquiring this type of Pokemon. Since the fox can flash freeze everything from large indoor ponds solid to other Pokemon like a weakened Salamence and an oversized Palossand as big as a house with Powder Snow, I might have to rethink my previous statement.
Wiz: Freezing the Palossand did not occur in an instant however as it took several minutes for the giant Pokemon to turn into solid ice making the Vulpix extremely exhausted in the process. Another impressive Powder Snow feat of Snowy is managing to freeze a gigantic burning meteor solid with some help from a Dragonair and Altaria.
Boomstick: The ice fox can freeze a falling meteor albeit with some help? This explains so much about how this tiny little fox could stagger an Tyranitar with its Powder Snow. That does it. I am so going to get my hands on an Alolan Vulpix.
Wiz: Powder Snow is Snowys signature attack but it is not the only ice move in her arsenal. Hail creates clouds of hail that that rain down around Snowy that harms non-ice type opponents and increases her evasiveness due to an Alolan Vulpix Snow Cloak ability. Hail also makes it possible to use Aurora Veil to create a shield around itself capable of blocking a Tyranitars Rock Throw move.
Boomstick: For a girl who constantly walked around in an embarrassing full body suit to avoid Pokemon, Lillie scored a very good first partner both in terms of healing her trauma and being an icy badass. Surviving hits from Necrozma and Pheromosa just like the previously analyzed Tsareena makes this very obvious. Speaking of repeating her green haired friend’s feats, Lillie and Snowy did participate in the whole Z-move fusion attack targeting at a Guzzlord alongside her friends.
Wiz: Lillie and Snowys Z-move called Subzero Slammer creates an large ice structure underneath her before unleashing a beam of ice that freezes everything it touches and produces a huge ice structure that then violently shatters into a million pieced. In addition to pushing back a Guzzlord, this move was also used against her brothers Umbreon who was seriously harmed by the attack.
Boomstick: I said before that Lillie did decently against her brother but even with that z-move and managing to dodge Umbreons Dark Pulse thanks to Snow Cloak and tanking a Shadow Ball to the face strong enough to break her Aurora Veil; the ice fox stood no lick of a chance in the long run.
Wiz: Snowy is an ice type Pokemon so even though she has resistance towards ice attacks; fire, fighting, rock, and steel attacks will seriously harm this alolan variant. Being knocked out by Umbreons Iron Tail is therefore no surprise.
Boomstick: If the girl had been a more experienced battler and had one more Pokemon, the result of that battle could hav…………? Wait a minute? Lillie does have a second Pokemon. I completely forgot about that robotlike fairy Pokemon Magearna that conveniently had the means of locating the blond girls lost father.
Wiz: There is a simple reason for why we have not mentioned Magearna. This Pokemon has no battle experience at all and has never used any known Pokemon moves even once making it extremely hard to analyze. Since the steel-fairy type was not caught by Lillie specifically and is more like a loyal pet to her entire family instead of just Lille, the likelihood of it ever being used in a fight by the heir to Aether Foundation is slim at best.
Boomstick: A Pokemon not able to fight does not seem very interesting at all in my opinion but the novice trainer probably does not mind keeping it around seeing as she is leagues kinder than me in every regard. She having helped locate her amnesiac father is probably a big factor too.
Wiz: Even if she is lacking some big things when it comes to Pokemon battles, Lillie has so many good things in her life that this seems rather insignificant. She has overcome her trauma, made a friend for life in Snowy, and reunited her once broken family. This girl has certainly come a long way from the days where she was unable to touch Pokemon.
Boomstick: It’s a good thing she befriended that ice fox of hers or it would still try to freeze anyone that came too close………..On second thought, maybe I shouldn’t get myself an Alolan Vulpix? I really don’t fancy becoming an ice sculpture for the rest of my days.
Wiz: She might be a beginner but underestimate Lillie at your own peril.
Lillie: I'm no longer the same me I was until yesterday.
Lana[]
Wiz: The final girl that makes up this Alolan trio is Lana. Unlike her two classmates, she is neither an heir to a famous restaurant or an important research facility. Lana is a rather normal girl in comparison that lives close to the sea with her parents and younger siblings. Its therefore no surprise that Lana loves the sea and all the Pokemon inhabiting it.
Boomstick: The blue haired girls love for the ocean definitely makes her stand out from the rest of her friends. She is kind of an ocean nerd with her very extensive knowledge about water type Pokemon and being obsessed with fishing of all things. Kind of a boring hobby when there are so many more things to do in Pokemons version of Hawaii.
Wiz: Fishing is an important business in island community’s so it’s not really that surprising Boomstick. Other than her fascination with the ocean, Lana is a playful kind girl who loves Pokemon that become surprisingly scary when she is angry. She also likes to blurt out ridiculous statements only to immediately follow them up with her signature catchphrase "just kidding."
Boomstick: Since we already have kind of revealed plenty of Lana and her Pokemons capabilities in the 2 earlier character breakdowns since all 3 girls do have a lot of feats in common, let’s not mention the fact that Lana was also complimented on her skills by Misty after her and Mallow’s tag team battle against the gym leader and got into the Top 16 in the league as well. Just Kidding because I just did. HAHAHAH! I am also not going to mention that the girls star Pokemon Primarina also took hits from Necrozma and Pheromosa and was involved in the Guzzlord Z move incident. Just Kidding!
Wiz: Not very funny Boomstick even if you are correct. Before we talk about Lana’s Primarina however, lets first discuss her more recently gained partner Pokemon Sandy the Eevee. This small Pokemon after going through a couple of hijinks ended up in the Alola region and befriended Lana to the point of him allowing itself to be caught by her. While the Eevee is very much reckless and curious in nature, it is still a capable fighter.
Boomstick. With a move like Double Edge that launches one into the opponent at high speed at the cost of injuring yourself a little, this strangely named Eevee is certainly capable enough of overpowering oversized toads like Seismitoad and sending a group Team Skull and their Pokemon Team Rocket style into the air. I guess there is also Tackle though which is one of the most basic and boing Pokemon moves of all times
Wiz: Tackle is not that bad of a move seeing as Sandy has the strength to carry a supposedly 17.6 lb Meltan. His durability and acrobatics is not too shabby either seeing as this Eevee can tank Mareanies rock-breaking Sludge Bombs and land on its feet after being hit by powerful attacks. This very much helps with surviving attacks from fighting type Pokemon since Sandy is a normal type.
Boomstick: The mascot with too many evolutions to count is a good choice to use in battle but when compared to Lana’s first and only other Pokemon; Primarina kind of steals the show seeing as it can keep up with Kyogre AKA the ancient legendary Pokemon that controls the entire planets ocean.
Wiz: That is indeed very impressive. It should be noted though that Primarina did not defeat the legendary Pokemon as she did not challenge the sea basin Pokemon to a regular battle. The encounter was basically Primarina trying to keep Lana safe after the trainer rescued Kyogre from a Pokemon hunter which resulted in the legendary going on a rampage in anger forcing the duo to find a way to calm it down.
Boomstick: Powering through currents created by the sea beast along with dodging its attacks and not getting one-shot by a massive ice attack courtesy of Kyogre certainly helped Lana out big time in accomplishing this. That the blue haired girl managed to reel the Pokemon lord of the oceans in with a simple fishing rod long enough for her ace to calm the raging legendary with a song is kind of crazy though.
Wiz: Humans in Pokemon are usually much stronger than the ones found in real life. Team Rocket is a perfect example of this. Getting back on track with the analysis, Primarina is not perfect. Primarina is resistant to fighting, bug, fire, water, ice, and dark attacks seeing as she is a water type Pokemon but that also means she is weak to poison, grass, and electric moves. Her battle with Guzmas Golisopod resulted in her defeat due to being hit by a barrage of poison attacks. It should be noted however that the soloist Pokémon managed to tank several super effective hits and surprise Guzma due to Lana’s quick plan of freezing Golisopod's feet to the ground before being finally knocked out.
Boomstick: Elemental weaknesses suck in Pokemon but they do not diminish the cool moves the seal mon has in her arsenal. Aqua Jet, which envelops her in water to turn her into a powerful battering ram, and Surf, which unleashes a giant wave of destruction capable of blocking weaker attacks like Golisopod's Pin Missile, are perfect in giving the opponent a soaking bad time. She also has access to Sparkling Aria that creates a ball of water that explodes into strangely powerful bubbles and Icy Wind which is this Pokemon equivalent of Snowys Powder Snow.
Wiz: Lastly there is Lana’s and Primarinas Z-move called Oceanic Operetta that generates a gigantic bubble that explodes onto the opponent. This move clashed with Tsareenas z-move which resulted in both attacks canceling each out of existence. Lana’s star Pokemon does have one more ace up her sleeve however; balloons.
Boomstick: Balloons? What are you talking about Wiz?
Wiz: What I am talking about is not an official move as the Primarina line is known for its ability to create large water balloons from its nose capable of withstanding several falling Wailmer and Lapras bouncing off them. These balloons can be used to trap opponents and block attacks like Mimikyu's shadow ball.
Boomstick: That’s cool I guess. Still prefer her other killer moves. The blue haired girl certainly made the correct choice in saving the Popplio being bullied by Alolas local gang as a child resulting in her gaining an extremely loyal friend for life.
Wiz: Being kind to both Pokemon and human alike is not strange at all for Lana. Even though she held the clear upperhand against Mallow's Tsareena and won in the end, she still took the time to cheer up her friend and convinced Mallow not to give up when she felt like quitting.
Boomstick: Having a kind personality does not make her a pushover. Ask anyone who have gotten on her bad side and they will tell you that this girl can become utterly terrifying when she is mad.
Wiz: Lana loves the ocean but regardless of whether you’re a good friend or a Pokemon in need of help; this Alolan girl won’t hesitate to help out to the best of her ability.
Lana: Just kidding!
Intermission[]
Wiz: All right, the combatants are set, it's time to end this debate once and for all!
Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLE!
Death Battle![]
Melemele Island:
With the sun high up in the air illuminating everything below it in rays of strong sunlight and clouds nowhere to be seen for miles in every direction, it looked to be another delightful day to be living on Melemele Island of the Alola region. Toucannons flying freely through the air and Sharpedos jumping high up into the air before descending to the bottom of the sea again meant that the Pokemon of the island was using the good weather to have some fun. A lot of the Pokemon Trainers were equally taking advantage of the sun by resting on the beaches watching their Pokemon playing around in the sand.
3 certain trainers hailing from the islands Pokemon School however were not using the good weather to get a good tan on this fine day.
The trio was currently in fact as far away from the beach that one could on the island. It was in the middle of island that one could find the girls standing apart from each other eyeing the other two with a smile on their faces and Pokeball ready to be thrown. Mallow, Lillie, and Lana were all ready for battle with one exception.
Lillie: Are we sure this is a good idea? Based on the map of the island, there is no Pokemon Center near our current vicinity if something goes wrong.
Malllow: Don’t worry Lillie. We might not have found those delicious berries that should appear during this time of the year somewhere in this part of the island that we heard about from Professor Kukui latest lecture but that’s okay. I don’t really need them to make a nice tasty dish so let’s spend the last of today’s sunlight to have a little friendly sparring match.
Lana: Tasty berries is not the only thing this part of the island is known for. It is also a place inhabited by Pokemon that latch onto children and carry them off to the afterlife. The rumor goes that these poor souls return to our world in the shape of a Drifloon to continue this process of abduction.
The conversation came to a sudden stop as both Lillie and Mallow turned their heads to give Lana an exasperated look. The words that next came out of Lanas mouth caused them both to let out a long sigh as the water trainer started to chuckle at her friend’s expense.
Lana: Just kidding!
Lillie: It’s not entirely incorrect as that story is one big theory’s concerning the true nature of Drifloons and Drifblims. I am still a little worried with there being no Pokemon Center nearby but I have to admit that I am a little interested in finding out if I have become a good enough trainer to challenge you two. Snowy certainly thinks so.
Mallow and Lana sported worried expressions as they noticed a sad smile appearing on their friend’s face. The two immediately shouted out encouraging words as they released their Pokemon. Their words caused that sad smile of Lillie to disappear and be replaced with a confident expression instead.
Mallow: That’s the spirit Lillie. There is no need to look down upon yourself. You and Snowy make a great pair. Come on out Tsareena!
Lana: Let’s have a good battle. I might have made it the farthest in the Alola Pokémon League but that does not guarantee victory with how much you have grown Lillie. It’s time for you to come out too Sandy!
Lillie: You’re both correct. Snowy and I make a great pair that can overcome any challenges in front of us. Come out you too Snowy and show how strong you’ve gotten!
White light emanating from the Pokeballs opening up and releasing their inhabitants covered the area signaling the beginning of the trios Pokemon battle. Covered in the white light was also several Drifloons floating above the trainers who remained clueless that their battle was about to have an audience.
FIGHT!
Mallow: Charge forward Tsareena and use Trop Kick on Sandy and Snowy!
Lana: Counterattack that kick with Tackle Sandy!
Lillie: Use Hail to activate your Snow Cloak ability Snowy to avoid that attack!
Tsareena and Mallow made the first move of the battle by immediately going on the offensive forcing the other Pokemon to dodge or counterattack. The Trop Kick aimed at Snowy was easily avoided due to the hail raining down from the sky activating the ice Pokemon’s Snow Cloak ability while the other Trop Kick collided with Sandys Tackle sending both Tsareena and Sandy sliding backwards.
Lillie: Use Powder Snow to freeze the other two now that they are momentarily stunned!
A large gust of cold wind was unleashed from Snowys mouth towards her opponents. Due to being weak to ice and affected by the hail raining down, Tsareena just barely avoided being hit by the full force of the icy wind. The attack was not fully avoided however as the grass Pokemon’s left leg was hit by the Powder Snow causing Tsareena to cry out in pain. Sandy on the other hand managed to leap out of the way with some impressive acrobatics and immediately went in for a counterattack on Lanas’s command.
Lana: That was very good Lillie but can you stop an incoming Double Edge as well?
The answer to this question was no as Lillie and Snowy were not able to react in time causing the alolan vulpix to be flung backwards at high speed. Sandy however let out a yelp of pain not long afterwards due to the recoil of using Double Edge.
Being hit in the face with a Trop Kick remined Lana and Sandy that Lillie was not their only opponent. Sandy was launched into a recovering Snowy sending them into the side of a tree as Tsareena did a high five with Mallow before going in for another attack. Mallow had the perfect move in mind for the follow-up attack.
Mallow: Don’t forget about me. Use Magical Leaf Tsareena!
An barrage of leaves as sharp as knives about to be unleashed upon their Pokemon made Lana and Lillie momentarily join forces as they ordered their respective partners on how to get out of this situation.
Lana: Double Edge through that attack!
Lillie: Protect yourself with Aurora Veil and do the same thing as Sandy!
Combining using Aurora Veil with the hail falling around the battlefield created a shield that took the brunt of the damage Snowy and Sandy would have received from the Magical leaves as they charged through the attack. The Double Edge impacted hard into Tsareenas stomach but it was not enough to prevent a Trop Kick counterattack. Thanks to Snow Cloak, Snowy dodged the incoming attack while Sandy was unable to avoid the incoming kick due to the recoil of using Double Edge.
Trop Kick alongside the consequences of using Double Edge turned out to be the last straw for Sandy. The kick from Tsareena knocked the Eevee out cold the moment her foot impacted with him.
Instead of continuing fighting each other, both Snowy and Tsareena walked up to their fallen opponent and congratulated him for a job well done as Sandy was returned to his Pokeball. It was not only the Pokemon that gave the unconscious Eevee praise however.
Mallow: For not being much of a fighter, Sandy very much gave me a decent challenge. Such performance deserves a free meal from my family’s restaurant.
Lana: Thanks for doing your best Sandy. You more than deserve that free meal for your hard work. You’re up next Primarina!
With another throw of a Pokeball, white light illuminated the area once again as a new combatant joined the fray. The appearance of the Soloist Pokemon sparked yet another barrage of commands to be heard across the battlefield.
Lana: Primarina; Cover the area with water using Surf!
Lillie: Use Aurora Veil to power through their attacks! I know you can do it Snowy.
Mallow: Counter the incoming attacks with Double Slap!
A giant wave of water appearing out of nowhere did not deter Primarinas opponents as Snowy charged right into the incoming wave with her Aurora Veil shield activated and Tsareena prepared to use Double Slap to create openings in the wave large enough to strike her opponents multiple times in a row. Water clouded Snowys vision however hiding Primarina from sight for a moment but the alolan vulpix did spot her other opponent. Aurora Veil and Double Slap clashed with each other as the wave momentary swallowed the entire area making it impossible for the trainers to discover what the result of the clash had been.
All 3 Pokemon were soaking wet but were also standing upright proudly. Snowy was panting heavily however while her opponents were only letting out minor signs of exhaustion. This was especially true for Primarina due to having avoided the Double Slap and being ready to commence the second stage of Lanas Plan.
Lana: Perfectly done Primarina! Use this opportunity to use Icy Wind and make Tsareena and Snowy unable to move!
Mallow and Lillie realized a second too late what Lana was planning and were unable to order their partners to quickly get out of the way as a powerful gust of icy wind turned the entire soaked battlefield into an icy wonderland. What was more important however was Snowy and Tsareena being completely covered in ice essentially trapping them in place to be hit by Primarinas next attack.
Lana: Slam into them with Aqua Jet!
The powerful battering ram made of made water turned Primarina into a force of nature as it slammed into the trapped Pokemon. Both of them were unable to do anything as the Aqua Jet flew into the sky with them ready to soon descend at high speed and slam them hard into the ground.
An idea inspired by her blue haired friends’ actions sparked inside Lillies mind as she witnessed her precious Snowy disappear into the clouds. Lillie immediately went on to make this idea a reality.
Lillie: Escape the Aqua Jet and use Powder Snow to quickly freeze it midair. Try to use their frozen bodies to slow down your fall somewhat after that.
The idea turned out to be a partial success. While the Powder Snow did manage to turn the Aqua Jet into an icy cocoon trapping Primarina inside alongside a majority of Tsareenas body, using her opponents’ bodies as crash cushions turned out to fail spectacularly. A Stomp attack ordered by Mallow and executed by Tsareenas remaining unfrozen leg slammed Snowy down hard into the ground below. Being squished under the weight of the frozen Pokemon’s forms falling on top of the alolan vulpix definitely was not part of the plan either as they were sent sprawling across the battlefield.
Lillie: I am so sorry Snowy. I did not mean for this to happen. Maybe….
Seeing as her friend was in distress, Lana walked up to her with no hesitation quickly followed by Mallow who then both proceeded to comfort Lillie by hugging her.
Lana: That was excellent move you just pulled Lillie. You should be proud of Snowy and you for having such good teamwork. Your Pokemon still want to continue. Don’t you want that as well?
Lana and Mallow released their grip around Lillie after witnessing a determined look appearing on her face. Lillie pulling her Z-Ring out of her bag and putting it on made something else clear as well. The girl was ready to go all out in one final attack.
Not wanting to disappoint their friend, Lana and Mallow put on their Z-Rings as well and walked back to their sides of the battlefield. Sensing what was happening, Tsareena, Snowy, and Primarina got up on their feet ready for the final stretch of the fight. They could feel themselves power up as they heard their respective trainers Z-Ring incantation beginning to take shape.
Mallow: Feel it! The breath of nature, the grasslands, and the forests! Now it’s time to use Bloom! Doom!
Lillie: The quiet falling of snow from the skies! Crystals of water constantly shimmering! Blanketing the world with their frost Z-Power! Together with my fiery spirit.... Now rise up into the vast sky once again! Use Subzero Slammer!
Lana: Embraced by the sea! Here we go! Past the ocean's horizon! Use Oceanic Operetta!
Flowers started to sprout all around Tsareena as an energy beam could be seen forming in the sky behind her. An gigantic ice structure started forming bellow Snowy who was preparing to unleash the strongest ice beam it could muster up at the moment. Primarinas nose was creating a huge bubble that covered the entire field with its shadow and was ready to be used for watery destruction.
The green energy beam shooting out of the sky, the gigantic ice beam that froze everything it its path creating large icy construct at the same time, and the giant bubble all collided with each other at the same time sending huge shockwaves in every direction due to the huge collision of power. Every Pokemon in the nearest radius made it their priority to get away as far as they could from the source of the shockwaves with the exception of the Drifloons still watching the battle.
Tsareena and Primarina powered through the incoming powerful shockwaves created from the clash while the trainers all hid besides the nearest trees for cover. Snowy however struggled desperately to keep her Z-move activated and not falling unconscious due to fatigue resulting from the barrage of shockwaves. This turned out to be a futile endeavor as the strongest shockwave yet impacted with Snowy causing her to faint and the Z-move to disappear.
The result of one of the Z-moves fading in power caused a disruption in the clash that caused the other two to explode. Both Tsareena and Primarina were enveloped in a multicolored explosion. At the moment it started to dissipate, Lillie ran with no hesitation to her partners unconscious body where she lifted the alolan vulpix gently into her arms and gave it a comforting hug before returning it to its Pokeball.
Lillie: There is no need to be sad Snowy. You did your best and that’s okay. Nothing could ever make me disappointed in you.
Even though they were both still able to fight even with all their injuries, neither the grass or water Pokemon made a move as Lillie entered and exited the battlefield after collecting Snowy. Instead they both gave the blond-haired trainer a thumbs up alongside their trainers as a sign of how proud they were of her performance during the battle. The battle started up once again now with a new spectator as Lillie found a fallen tree to sit on to observe the final moment of the match.
Neither she or her friends noticed some of the Drifloons making their way towards the new spectator.
Lana: Time to finish this Mallow. Let’s make this finish something to remember. Unleash Sparkling Aria Primarina!
Mallow: I completely agree. Don’t expect this to go the same way it did during the Alola league however. Cut through those bubbles with Magical Leaf!
The barrages of Sparkling Aria bubbles and insanely sharp Magical leaves colliding with each other resulted in a majority of the projectiles canceling each other out. Some of the leaves did cut through the bubbles however and hit Primarina with such intensity that the Soloist Pokemon was knocked onto its back.
Mallow: Now’s your chance Tsareena! End this battle with Trop Kick!
Charging forward at full speed with a leg ready for a fight-ending kick, Tsareena was ready to end this fight between friends. Even though Primarina managed to get up from the ground, the Pokemon was unable to counterattack in time as Tsareena was seconds away from its location. The powerful Trop Kick hit Primarina in the face with such force that would have normally knocked it out for a few hours………..
………..if it had not been for the approaching foot being caught in a bubble that suddenly appeared out of Primarinas nose centimeters away from its face.
Lana: You have definitely gotten stronger Mallow. I can’t wait for our next battle. End this current battle with a Icy Wind Primarina.
An ice attack impacting Tsareena at extremely close range was more than enough to immobilize and knock the fruit Pokemon into the realm of unconsciousness. The battle was finally over. The winner of this 3 trainer battle royale was Lana and Primarina with some assistance from Sandy.
KO!
A more egotistical trainer would have flaunter their victory in their opponents face but Lana was not that kind of person. She returned Primarina to her Pokeball and thanked it for doing very well before walking over to Mallow who was doing the same with Tsareena. The 2 friends high fived each other and smiled. Their friendship was still going strong regardless of who won.
Lana: That was very fun. Very much in the same league as the time I meet Kyogre which is not a jo…… Is something wrong Mallow? You look confused.
After looking around the area, Lana immediately understood why her friend’s mood had dropped from happy to extremely confused and freighted. The fallen tree where Lillie had just been a couple of moments ago was completely empty. The only trace left of Lillie was her hat laying on the ground.
The sigh of only her hat made both trainer’s imaginations go wild with what could have happened to their friend.
Mallow: Where is Lillie? She was just here a second ago. She has to be around here somewhere but why do I feel sleepy all of a su…….ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Saying these words as she took one step forward was all that Mallow managed to accomplish before simply falling to the ground snoring loudly. Lana followed quickly in the same footsteps only a few seconds later. It was at this time that the very large amounts of Drifloons observing the battle royal from all sides made their presence known.
They surrounded the unconscious forms of Mallow and Lana before ensnaring their arms and legs with their tiny arms. With both trainers confined and asleep, the Drifloons took off into the sky carrying their prey. Waiting for them in the sky was group of Drifloons having constricted Lillie in the same way as her friends.
The ones holding Mallow continued higher into the sky once they reached the Pokemon holding Lillie who then proceeded to follow the first group. Soon both groups of Drifloons along with their captives were no more than small dots in the sky before disappearing into oblivion. Where they went no one knows. Lana was trapped in the grasp of the Drifloons that remained to watch their fellow Pokemon disappear from this world.
Lana started to groan slightly signaling she would not stay asleep forever so the Drifloons instead of going up to join their brethren started to travel towards the coast of Melemele Island. This human had earned the right to return to her normal life unlike the other two. Hopefully she would never return to disrupt the tranquility of their forest ever again.
- Shaymin arrives at Ainas Kitchen to visit Mallow only to come face to face with her worried father instead.
- Gladion runs into two shiny Drifloons while searching for Lillie; one having a slight white color scheme with the other one being greenish in color.
- Lana wakes up in her bed dazed and confused with her entire family huddling around her crying in relief.

Boomstick: ……………………………………………………………….…..…..That ending was terrifyingly dark even for us and it was not even the gruesome bloody kind. I am just going to believe that those final moments were all just a dream and Lanna statement about those purple balloon Pokemon to be a ridiculous joke that could not possibly turn out to be true.
Wiz: For once I am not very interested in the science behind this. There are some things even great scientists like me should not get involved with. Who deserved to win this extremely close battle royal is something we can discuss however.
Boomstick: When we say close we really mean it due to the absurd amounts of feats these 3 classmates of the unageing Ash Ketchum share in common. Helping to push Guzzlord back with Z-moves, being test dummies for Necrozma and Pheromosa and surviving, and becoming part of the top 16 Alola league makes the 3 schoolgirls equal to each other in a lot of areas that matter. Despite this surprising short gap between their skills as Pokemon trainers, it was not a big surprise when Lillie was the first one to go down.
Wiz: Lillie is a really good trainer despite of what has happened in her life. Her getting past the trauma of her past is something to recognized as a big deal but because of this; her level of skill is not exactly up to the same standard as her friends. Both she and Snowy lack the experience of Mallow, Lana and their Pokemon despite her more encyclopedic knowledge about Pokemon.
Boomstick: Gladion being surprised by her skills does not mean much since she still lost in the end and since a lot of Snowys Powder Snow feats required help like with the meteor or a lot of time like with the Palossand; it’s safe to say Lillie and Snowy was the most likely pair to lose first even with Snow Cloak and Aurora Veil. I don’t feel too bad though about rooting for her despite this. Her story is one that I very much find inspiring.
Wiz: Looking at the type advantages and disadvantages for the remaining two trainers and their Pokemon, Mallow did seem the more likely combatant to win due to Primarina being weak to grass and Tsareena being a grass Pokemon. The canon match between Mallow and Lana however put a large wrench in this interpretation due Lana and Primarinas overwhelming victory during the Alola league. Some might say we should not use this and rely on the typing instead but ignoring something this big in determining the victor is something we can’t do.
Boomstick: Primarina might share a lot of feats with Tsareena but being able to power through Kyogres attacks and keep up with it as well as fight on despite being bombarded with moves that are supper effective several times is not something the kicking fruit Pokemon has ever been shown able to do. The Pokechef losing also might have something to do with the fact that both of her friends had Pokemon that knew ice type moves which is basically death sentence for a grass Pokemon in a battle royal.
Wiz: The only real differences of this battle royale to their canon match is the inclusion of Lillie and Lana having a second Pokemon which is a big advantage. If Primarina had been chosen to be used first, the likelihood of victory for Mallow would have been a little higher due to the inclusion of Snowy attacking both of their teams. By the time Sandy would have been released and Lanas’s star Pokemon unlikely defeat however, Tsareena would already have taken too much damage to be able to fight and win. If Sandy had been chosen first, Tsareena would probably win against the Eevee and Snowy but also exhausted enough to lose to Primarina next. Mallows partner not being able to win against Lanas’s star Pokemon when at full strength proves that doing this when being wounded would create an even worse situation.
Boomstick: The blue-haired girls’ skill as a trainer very much helps with this as well. Her experience with Kyogre and Guzma trumps all of Mallow and Lillies feats as trainers. The way Lana used strategies while fighting Guzmas team was very impressive compared to how Lillie fought Gladion despite the loner being the far superior fighter to Guzma in retrospect.
Wiz: All 3 girls are very good friends and regardless of who proved superior; this will probably always be true even with Lana being the superior trainer and having the better team.
Boomstick: Mallow and Lillie might have tried to burst Lanas’s bubble but unfortunately for them; their poketempt ended up with them being put on ice for all Dialga. Wonder if they would like some Ketchum with that Alolan embarrassment.
Wiz: The Winner is Lana.
