Prelude[]

Wiz: Morality is an ever changing road of twists and turns. Some walk a path of good intentions that lead to hellish results, while others proudly walk a thin line of chaotic destruction. And no greater battle is waged than one between two very different ideals.

Boomstick: Like Akuma. The demonic Master of the Fist.

Akuma-template

Wiz: And Raiden. The Guardian of Earth and God of Thunder.

Raiden-template

Boomstick: No introduction is needed for either of these deadly masters of combat, but since its in our contracts to do so, here we go. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.

Wiz: And on this day, we'll analyze the power and skills of the greatest threat in the Street Fighter universe and pit him against Mortal Kombats all powerful defender of Earthrealm to find out who would win a Death Battle!

Akuma[]

STREET FIGHTER V - Akuma-Gouki Theme (long version)

Boomstick: Here's a little bit of advice: If your little brother starts talking about absorbing the power of heaven and becoming one with the demon, then he’s either been possessed by the ghost from the Exorcist, or he’s Akuma… I mean who else talks like that?

Wiz: In a world adorned with mystical ninjas, elephant slaying boxers, failed science experiments and fighting tournaments galore, It's not uncommon to encounter the occasional wandering warrior. From the noble hearted Ryu to the ancient assassin Gen. It's best to let them pass and go about your day.

Boomstick: But the one you definitely want to avoid by any means necessary is the one and only master of the Satsui no Hado. The mighty, Akuma!

Akuma in Tekken

Background[]

  • Alias: Supreme Master of the Fist
  • Height: 5'10"
  • Weight: 199 lbs
  • Age: Roughly 50 or so
  • Younger brother to Gouken
  • His only friend is Elena

Wiz: The origins of Gouki (Japanese name) are as mysterious as the man himself. No one truly knows exactly where he came from or how exactly he came to embrace the darker side of martial arts. What we do know is that he and his younger brother, Gouken, were trained by the same master, Goutetsu. A martial arts master who trained the two in self defense, and user of the forbidden Satsui no Hado, or, the Surge of Murderous Intent.

Boomstick: Now that's a name I can get behind. Really brings it home.

Wiz: Well in order to this deadly art, Akuma had to give up any and compassion he held towards other human beings, including his brother. And after years of training with and feuding against his brother, Akuma left his master to find his own path. Meditating on the Dark Hado and submitting himself to a violent and brutal life that ultimately led him back to where his training began... where he then killed his former master as a show of force.

Boomstick: Imagine if thats what Darth Vader did. We'd have had a very different story.

Akuma-Move2

Wiz: Akuma's fighting style incorporates the defensive elements of Karate, the power and aggression of Kempo and the grappling prowess of Judo. This complements his aggressive nature that is nearly flawless when executed perfectly. Akuma is all about putting down his opponents as quickly as possible with quick yet solid blows and downright brutal combos. He is almost never put on the defensive as he’s just so quick and aggressive that it's hard to so much as land a hit on him, let alone make him flinch.

Boomstick: Make him flinch? You’ll be lucky if YOU even see him coming. M. Bison certainly didn’t and look what happened. He killed him and didn’t even have to try.

Wiz: Well, that's the nature of the Dark Hado, Boomstick. No one is safe from its overwhelming power, not even someone like Bison, who could react to his own Psycho-Drives laser beam as it travelled around the globe.

Boomstick: Due to the nature of his training, Akuma’s moveset is very similar to that if his brothers and that of Ryu. Which probably explains why he’s so angry. All those whippersnappers stealing his moveset. Anyhow, Akuma's signature Gohadoken is his go-to ranged attack, and it can be used in midair as well. And it can be amplified into a Shinku-Hadoken, which is, as the name ‘’void surge fist’’ implies… well I don’t know what it implies but it's awesome.

Wiz: The Tatsumaki Zankukyaku is everyones favorite spinning kick that can juggle opponents like rag dolls, and the Goshoryuken is a more aggressive variant of the shoryuken. But thanks to his connection to the Dark Hado, Akuma has some unique abilities that other Shotokan practitioners lack. Like the Ashura Senku, a teleport that allows him to move through projectiles and even his opponent, and more notably, the Kongou Kokuretsuzan. A powerful wave of dark energy strong enough crack solid stone.

Boomstick: He’s also well versed in KI based utilities, like being able to make himself ‘fly’ or levitate, and he can even sense the KI of other powerful fighters from across the world. But let's get to the part you’ve all been waiting so see. The one and only move that has made more Tekken fans rage quit than anything else… The Raging Demon.

Akuma-Raging Demon

Wiz: Otherwise known as ‘’Instant Murder Death’’ or the Shun Goku Satsu, this attack not only destroys a person physically, but it attacks their very soul by targeting their sins. The more atrocities a person has committed, the more effective it is. Think of it as Ghost Riders Penance Stare, but he hits you 30 times in a single second.

Boomstick: You think that would work on my Ex?... What? I’m not saying I WANT it to happen, just, wondering… for research.

  • Survived underwater depths at 10 thousand feet
  • Withstood his own destruction of the Goutentou Island

Speed[]

    • Bison could perceive the Psycho Drives Laser Beam
  • Blocked Gens Zan’ei attack
  • Easily faster than Cammy and Juri, who could deflect rockets

Intelligence[]

  • Expert Martial Artist
  • Flawlessly controls the Satsui no Hado
Akuma vs bison

Wiz: But in the rare instance where he does find an opponent worthy, Akuma taps into the Dark Hado to become even stronger. This ‘True Demon’ or Shin Akuma, is as close as Akuma has ever come to submitting himself to the violent nature of the dark art and losing his humanity completely. And no, Oni doesn’t count as he’s more of a hypothetical character than anything else.

Boomstick: But the scary thing about Akuma is that he rarely uses his Shin abilities because he’s just that powerful on his own. Even when contending with ‘’Power of Nothingness’’ Ryu he still didn’t feel the need to use his full potential. And by this point, Ryu was at his strongest, being able to defeat Necalli and Bison back to back. Its the same Ryu that blew up a building with ONE hadoken.

Wiz: He’s fought evenly with his brother time and time again, defeated the likes of M. Bison, Gen and the forever reincarnating Gill. He also had an inconclusive match with Oro, a warrior so gifted in martial arts that he forces himself to only fight with one arm just to give his foes a fighting chance.

Boomstick: Are you surprised? This is the guy who destroyed an entire island with a single punch, which included all the mountains. Based on its height and the assumption that the island is somewhat circular, as well as the size of the explosion seen, we can estimate the explosion would yield roughly 400 thousand tons of TNT. Keep in mind, this is base Akuma! Shin Akuma could probably waste a meteor if he had too.

Feats[]

  • Is considered the strongest character in Street Fighter
  • Defeated ‘Power of Nothingness’ Ryu, M. Bison, Gouken, Gen
  • Killed his master, Goutetsu
  • Sank the island Goutentou with a single punch
  • Leveled acres of land just by waking up
  • As a child, defeated an Asian Black Bear
  • Split the Ayers Rock in half
  • Resisted having his soul eaten by Necalli

Faults[]

  • Aggressive fighting style leaves him open when counter-attacked
  • Has been known to hold back
  • Secretly seeks an opponent worthy of killing him

Wiz: Well… he sort of did in a comic that may or may not be canon depending on who you ask. But either way there is no doubt that the Raging Demon is one of, if not, the most powerful character in the Street Fighter world. Yet even though he hasn’t taken part in any of the major tournaments, he isn’t unbeatable. Akuma’s famously low stamina is mostly due to the fact that he holds back in most of his fights, which has led to him being defeated by his own brother on multiple occasions.

Boomstick: And that famous temper has gotten the best of him to the point where even he is sort of afraid of what he could turn into. He’s also got the ol’ secret desire to be killed in a fair fight against a more powerful opponent, so he’s always willing to fight at his opponents full potential. The only problem is that there aren’t many people who can do that.

Wiz: Master of the Fist, he is. Master of continuity, maybe not. But all those who dare challenge his might may very well meet a brutal and decisive end.

Raiden[]

Mortal_Kombat_X_-_Raiden-_Thunder_God_(Theme)

Mortal Kombat X - Raiden- Thunder God (Theme)

Wiz: Unbeknown to most of the citizens of Earthrealm, there is a war that has spanned multiple centuries to determine the fate of not just Earth, but many worlds across the multiverse. Battles between gods and demons alike, highly skilled monks and dangerous humanoid cannibals, all fighting for the same purpose. To win!

Boomstick: There’s this little tournament going around called Mortal Kombat, you may have heard of it. It's pretty much how the fate of the world is decided and who gets to rule over who. Can you imagine if this is how the presidency was decided?

Wiz: Among these warriors would rise a future Elder God. After helping to defeat the fallen Elder God, Shinnok, this combatant would become one of the most powerful defenders of Earthrealm. The Thunder God, Raiden!

Raiden MKX

Background[]

  • Alias: Lord Raiden, God of Thunder
  • Height: 7'
  • Weight: 350 Ibs
  • Age: Millions of years. Eternal
  • Older brother of Fujin
  • Will constantly remind you that he is a God

Boomstick: Ah Raiden. What would we do without you constantly recruiting the best warriors to defend our humble little planet, only to get most of them killed. Especially that one guy.

Wiz: Raiden was not always the wise, experienced protector of earth that we know him as. There was a time when he was simply just another guardian that dedicated their lives to stopping Shinnok from ruling over all the realms. With the aid of the other Elder Gods, Raiden managed to defeat Shinnok and was granted the title of Thunder God as a reward.

Boomstick: While he was temporarily granted the title of Elder God, he relinquished it because it wouldn’t allow him to actively guard Earthrealm from other cosmic threats like Shao Kahn or Havik. So he became mortal while still retaining his godly powers. And good thing too because otherwise I think we’d have a much different outcome on our hands.

Raiden Injustice

Wiz: Raiden's entire form is composed of ethereal energy, which grants him complete control over his own molecules, as well as the entire electric spectrum. He can call upon his own godly energy or harness natural lightning to perform truly stunning feats like channeling electricity through wood, teleport across the battlefield, flight and is described as having near unlimited endurance.

Boomstick: His godly essence is so powerful that at one point when the Dragon King, Onaga, was resurrected, he went kamikaze and blew up the entire structure he was in. Given the size blast radius compared to the temple itself, we can estimate that it would take roughly 134 thousand tons of TNT. And Raiden still managed to survive that blast, albeit it took a while for him to return, but still.

Wiz: The limitations of a mortal body aside, Raiden is responsible for recruiting dozens if not hundreds of Earthrealm warriors to defend the realm against Shao Kahn and his outworld armies. And whenever he’s permitted or isn’t bound by any tournament rules, Raiden will gladly challenge anyone who threatens the realms, and will use any means necessary. Though usually his knowledge of 700+ variants of jujitsu are more than enough.

Boomstick: I mean he is partially responsible for training Liu Kang and Kung Lao, so of course he’d be well versed in martial arts, Wiz. Look at Liu Kang, he’s one of the few people that can actually defeat Goro and kill Shao Kahn back to back and still be ready to kick ass the next moment. But what's a few and kicks and punches when you can also add lightning to the mix.

Wiz: Raiden incorporates his godly powers into his unique fighting style to create a deadly mix of close quarters and zoning attacks to keep his foes off guard. Often attacking from multiple directions at once using his teleportation, flight and ranged attacks to deliver precise and deadly blows that can even stun the likes of Motaro. Or send him crashing through solid concrete with one of his most notable moves, the Electric Fly.

Boomstick: Or the ‘’JOHNNYBOUGHTACAR’’ if you’re a real gamer. He’s also got the trademark Static Trap to stun his foes, the Thunder and Lightning Strikes to keep them at a distance, or if he needs to get close there's the Electrocute or Vicinity Burst. I’m noticing a pattern with these names. Very cheesy.

Wiz: He can discharge enough energy to fry a person's brain from the outside, or even separate limbs, which require hundreds of tons of force. He can even create weapons like daggers or blades out of pure electricity that can even cut through Elder Gods like Shinnok, or disintegrate demons from the NetherRealm. Speaking of: while he states that being in the NeatherRealm drains his powers, you certainly wouldn’t know it as he’s not only fought the revenant forms of his former allies, but held off an entire army of demons for hours and showed no signs of weakness.

Strength[]

  • Is said to have killed Liu Kang in every timeline where they’ve fought
  • Has defeated Shang Tsung multiple times
  • Comparable to a Nightwolfs Ancestral Light
  • Has matched Scorpion and Sub-Zero in physical strength
    • Is even stronger with the Amulet of Shinnok

Durability[]

  • Survived a beating from Shao Kahn and Shinnok
  • Comparable to Liu Kang, who can take blows from Goro
  • Fought off the Netherrealm army for a few hours

Speed[]

  • Comparable to Corrupted Shinnok
  • Teleportation allows him to travel to different dimensions.
  • Can react to his own lightning
  • Can reach the atmosphere in a few seconds

Intelligence[]

  • Has extensive knowledge of many fighting styles
  • A wise enough mentor to convince warriors to fight for Earthrealm

Boomstick: This is the same guy who causally karate chops stone after all. And that's him showing restraint. I’d hate to see him when he goes full Dark Raiden, but for the sake of this battle, why not? Whether it be because he took Shinnok's amulet for his own, Kronika forcing him to lose control, or because he straight up wants to, Dark Raiden is the last thing you ever want to see. Without restraints he’ll use all the powers available to him and more, including necromancy, deconstruction and can burn people so deep that they feel their souls burning away.

Wiz: Dark Raiden is responsible for invading other worlds with the intent of crushing his enemies before they get the chance to attack themselves. Even Scorpion and Sub-Zero, two of the most gifted and powerful kombatants in MK history are no match for him. Speaking of, even when he’s not at his most powerful, Raiden is fast enough to keep pace with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, who once used his ice slide to outrun an explosion. Usually the velocity of a detonation can reach around 2000 meters per second, or, over Mach 5. And Raiden has proven he can outpace both masked warriors, even at his weakest.

Boomstick: I repeat the same thing that I say every time we get to this part of the show: How the hell does this guy ever lose?

Feats[]

  • The most powerful Mortal Kombatant
  • Defeated Liu Kang, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Quan Chi
  • Destroyed multiple floors of the sky temple with a single bolt
  • Smashed through a concrete bridge with little effort
  • His essence survived despite unleashing all of his godly power on Onaga
    • Creating a massive explosion that destroyed the Temple
  • Has mastered 750 varieties of Jujitsu
  • Uncorrupted the Jinsei, which covered all of Earth Realm
  • Initially defeated Shinnok during his first invasion

Faults[]

  • Is willing to do whatever it takes to protect Earthrealm
  • Defeated by Shao Kahn, Shinnok, Scorpion
  • Is immortal, but not indestructible

Wiz: Context is important, Boomstick. Much of Raidens godly power is sealed as long as he takes a mortal form, which he is required to do when he comes to earth. Though this does make him immortal and his soul is relatively protected from beings like Shang Tsung and Kronika, he can still be defeated and his essence drained from constant abuse. Even if his non-corporal sense will live on, its not immune to corruption, as shown when it was tainted by Onagas evil presence.

Boomstick: And for all that martial arts training we've bragged about, he still manages to get his ass kicked by tanks like Shao Kahn and Shinnok, who are pretty much the concreate wall to the fist that is Raiden. And if I haven't dragged his name in the mud long enough, his willingness to do anything to protect Earthrealm has resulted in the deaths of many, many people. Usually unintentionally.

Wiz: But like the wise leader Raiden is, he's grown to learn from his past mistakes, and his immense power is only overshadowed by his will to win and endurance to keep fighting for the world he loves. Even at his weakest, the brother of Fujin can always be relied upon when danger lurks from the other side. He is after all the one and true God of Thunder.

Pre-Battle[]

Akuma-vs-Raiden-12

Location: Shao Kahns throne room.

The sorcerer, Shang Tsung, has seen better days.

The last furious assault of kicks and strikes left him with one less good leg, and his attempts to fight back against his adversary had proved all but fruitless. Succeeding in only making his foe, and his master, the mighty Shao Kahn, even more disappointed in him. He could feel the hatred leaping off his master's face, threatening to, in turn, leap from his seat and finish him himself.

That is if the God of Thunder didn’t do it first.

And there was no mistaking it, he would if he had to. Decked in the usual straw hat, blue GI and the endless amounts of electricity that radiated off his form. A stern, almost emotionless look on his face as he stared down the ruler of Outworld before turning his attention back to the crippled sorcerer.

"It is over Shang Tsung. You have failed your master once again!" The Thunder God declared to the staggering mess of a sorcerer before him. Turning his head to the disappointed and frustrated Shao Kahn, who sat stiff on his throne.

Having had enough of EarthRealms constant good fortune, Shao Kahn threw his remaining cards into the pile, demanding that Raiden face his right hand, which would determine whether or not the tournament would continue. All Shang Tsung had to do was win, and Earthrealm would be one step closer to merging with Outworld, as Shao Kahn intended. And with the extra power granted to him by his master, he was sure to win…

The plan went much better in his head.

‘’No, Thunder God,’’ Shang Tsung spat, wiping the blood from his mouth. Knowing full well that a loss here would mean far worse for him than simply being defeated by Raiden for the umpteenth time. ‘’This time… hehe.... This time I’ll…’’

Akuma-vs-Raiden-11
Akuma-vs-Raiden-13

The poor magician was unaware that he was speaking his final words. Appearing suddenly from the shadows came a pair of red eyes that rushed the oblivious sorcerer from behind, with only Raiden and Shao Kahn being able to see what occurred next as everything went black. A series of lightning quick blows that only appeared as bright flashes of blue light. Followed by silence.

When the two remaining men could see once more, all that was left of Shang Tsung was a lifeless husk. His eyes sunken as soul after soul of victim after victim flew out and away from his corpse, freed from their eternal prison. Standing over him was a beast of a man dressed in similar attire to that of Raiden, but sleeveless and clearly worn to its limits. Blood red hair and eyes that pierced souls as well as a drill pierced concrete.

Needless to say, Raiden was taken aback by the turn of events. And Shao Kahn was simply pissed. "How dare you interrupt my tournament and slay my sorcerer!’’ He barked, still not rising from his seat. ‘’Do you have any idea who I am or the pow…’’ If the new arrival heard what vexing Lord of Outworld had to say, he wasn’t giving him the notion that he even cared. The moment his eyes locked with the God of Thunder’s were where they would stay until only one of them was left standing.

The demon clenched his fists and glared, growling ‘’You are the God of Thunder, correct?’’ Demanding an answer from the stone faced Raiden who, unlike Shao Kahn, kept his composure and his arms bent at a defensive angle. Staring down his slightly shorter opposition.

‘’I am Lord Raiden! Protector of EarthRealm.’’ He responded as electricity cracked and cackled across his limbs. ‘’And whom do I have the displeasure of provoking?’’ He asked while keeping one eye on Kahn, who seemed to lean forward as if to observe whatever would happen next with most interest.

‘’I am Akuma, and I have roamed these wastelands, searching for an equal to fists.’’ With that, the demon identified as Akuma, the master of the fist, brought his foot down and took an aggressive stance. A blood red aura enveloping his body. ‘’Let us see if you’re as powerful as you claim.’’

The Thunder Gods response was to properly fix his hat before calling upon a bolt of lightning that broke through the ceiling of the chamber. The electricity wrapped around him like a snake as he too took an offensive stance and prepared for what was sure to be an intense battle.

‘’Very well, Akuma. I will show you the repercussions of provoking a God!’’

FIGHT[]

The_Art_of_War

The Art of War

Start at 0:27

Akuma wasted absolutely no time and leapt into the air, firing twin Gohadokens before repositioning himself in mid air for a diving kick. The Thunder God remained still as he blocked both blasts and twisted his form for a high kick that countered the demons, who touched down and launched at Raiden, only to receive a stiff chop for his efforts. Electricity crackled as Raiden pushed forward with a series of quick, precise palm and knee strikes, all of which Akuma blocked effortlessly, even if he felt himself being pushed into a corner by an admittedly, very skilled opponent.

Akuma-vs-Raiden-6
Akuma-vs-Raiden-14

But one miscalculated blow later, and Raiden capitalized with a solid uppercut, sending Akuma into the air before channeling power to his palms and blasting the limp demon back. The static electricity doing little more than anger the red haired warrior who held out a hand, enveloped in a red aura, and caught the next lighting strike as if it was a simple fly before twisting around and firing it back at its sender.

Akuma-vs-Raiden-15

Taken aback, Raiden’s form glowed as he disappeared just before the blast could connect with him. It was now Akumas turn to flinch as he heard a subtle ‘’rrrrmp’’ at his rear and turned with intent to kill, but was once again countered as Raiden was ready. Catching Akuma’s fist and sending hundreds of volts into his body before teleporting once again. This time catching Akuma with the Electric Fly, sending them across the room before further amplifying the blast and sending the demon crashing into the stone wall.

Akuma-vs-Raiden-3

‘’Your fate is decided.’’ Raiden declared before unleashing a massive bolt of lightning upon his foe, crashing down from above. For one brief moment it appeared to have incapacitated the demon.

Akuma-vs-Raiden-16

Akuma grit his teeth as he growled, rose up, brushed bits of stone from his shoulders and rushed his foe. Raiden unleashed another wave of lightning that would have sent Akuma flying had he not leapt over the beam, before grabbing the Thunder God in midair, flipping him over and throwing him. As Raiden teleported before he could hit the floor, he appeared behind Akuma once more but this time the demon was ready, and sent him into the air with a thunderous Shoryuken.

Akuma-vs-Raiden-5

The demon pressed his attack with a mid-air Tatsumaki Zankukyaku before raising his fist and slamming it into Raiden from above. The Thunder Gods eyes opened just before he could hit the ground, safely teleporting up and away from the angry fist that put a hole in the ground where his head would have been.

A flash of lightning burst from where Akuma had landed, stunning him while Raiden summoned his staff, twirling it around him at speeds only capable of a true master. With the extra reach available, Raiden struck Akuma before he could regain his composure and continued with a barrage of jabs and strikes that pushed the Demon back.

As Raiden lunged for Akumas defenseless gut, the demon flipped into the air before coming down like a bullet aimed for Raiden's legs. Tripping him up and raising his leg, breaking the defending staff in two and sending Raiden airborne. He then started spinning around like an electric fan going into overtime, becoming a miniature tornado as he flew towards Raiden.

"Let's test your limits!" Akuma growled as his foot was about to connect with Raiden's limp head. But the former Elder God was just fast enough to dodge the demon Armageddon and teleport to the ground below. Raising his hand to summon a bolt of lighting that knocked Akuma from the sky, forcing him to land.

Never missing a beat, however, Akuma launched another Gohadoken before seamlessly teleporting behind his foe, who, in the effort to block the blast, was left wide open for a series of thunderous strikes. Each one more devastating than the last. Culminating in a solid kick to the side of the former elder gods head before unleashing his fury with a Sekia Goshoha, burning his foe and sending him flying.

Raiden howled as the flames scorched his mortal form. Falling to his knees and gripping his chest, muttering in an ancient tongue as electricity sparkled between his wounds. ‘’You do not deserve to call yourself a God,’’ the demon barked, disgusted by his foe's apparent weakness and looked to finish the battle swiftly as he charged a Shinku Hadoken.

‘’The gates of Hell await!’’ Akuma roars, firing a massive energy blast from his palms that completely consumes the Thunder God, who screamed in pain before an explosion rocked the room. Followed by the rumble of thunder as a lightning bolt, as red as blood, burst through the roof and onto where Raiden once stood.

Akuma-vs-Raiden-10

A dark orange energy radiated from the God of Thunder as the metal columns of the room began to vibrate. A proverbial thunderstorm erupted from the center of the room, lightning erupting from all sides while the wind would have turned any normal man's bones into glass. Raiden's eyes shot open with evil intent, glaring down the stone faced Akuma who didn’t even seem all that bothered.

Quite the contrary.

‘’So, this is the extent of your power,’’ said the Demon, putting his foot down again as their respective shades of red clashed with one another. ‘’Perhaps you are a God after all. I shall enjoy this!’’ He stated, to which Raiden replied...

‘’I was a fool to grant you any form of mercy. Now I’ll send you to the Neatherrealm where you belong!’’ With renewed vigor, Raiden rushed Akuma with the speed of a bullet train, unleashing a barrage of lightning at his foe, who struggled to hold it back.

Akuma-vs-Raiden-4

Akuma fired another Gohadoken at the barrage, which managed to cancel it out just in time for him to rush forward. But one miscalculated counter later, and Raiden drove Akuma into one of the metal columns, shaking the room and stunning the demon.

He was then electrocuted beyond belief as Raiden grabbed his head on both sides and attempted to fry his opponent's head from the outside-in. Akuma roared before becoming transparent, moving through Raiden and striking from behind. His fists, enveloped in the Dark Hado, colliding with Raidens purely electric strikes.

The two became a blur of sorts. Focusing on nothing but destroying the other as fist met fist in a battle to see who would fall first. But it was becoming clear that neither had reached their full potential, considering that no matter how hard Akuma punched, or how much Raiden hoped his opponent would fall, neither was willing to die just yet.

But Raiden was cunning, and lured Akuma into a false sense of security by stepping into one of his punches. As the demon launched Raiden into the air with powerful Shoryuken and then leapt to his level, Raiden teleported at the last moment before a massive bolt of lightning broke through the roof once more. Striking Akuma in the back and hurdling him into the floor, creating a massive crater that served as Akumas temporary cage as Raiden continued to ramp up the pressure.

Giving Akuma the ‘’electric chair’’ treatment as he, rather gleefully, pinned Akuma beneath his boot, with one arm raised to the heavens and the other pointed right at his foe, summoned lightning from the sky and unleashed it upon his foe, who roared in absolute agony. The unholy energy burning his skin like a hot knife, all the while Raiden, in his more vengeful manner, could only smile.

‘’You’ll suffer a fate worse than death!’’ The Thunder God proclaimed. His hand ripe with orange lightning shot out, forming a blade that hummed and crackled with pure energy. Drawing his arm back to sever the demons head from his shoulders. Akuma clawed at Raidens leg and let out a frustrated groan, staring daggers at the God above him who swung his arm down…

But Akumas arm shot up and caught Raidens by the wrist, halting the blade and keeping him close long enough to witness his skin glow with a dark blue aura before blasting the God away. Rising to his feet with sharpened teeth and his bloody fists shaking with limitless power. The Thunder God had surpassed his usual limitations, and now Shin-Akuma was ready to truly play with fire.

He growled ‘’Now, Thunder God, I will teach you the meaning of Pain!’’ before lunging forward, firing consecutive Gohadokens that collided with and exploded against Raidens own barrage. Rattling the room.

Almost perfect was the timing of their teleporting that they appeared to fade in and out of reality. Every collision from one to the other shook the foundation and threatened to collapse. An Electric Fly by Raiden had carried Akuma to the ceiling, pinning him there before the demon raised his fist and slammed down, knocking the God away.

Akuma began spinning in the air like he did before, racing through a mini thunderstorm with Raiden as its eye. Red lightning burst from the clouds, breaking the sound barrier as they rushed the flying Demon, who held out his hand and fired a wave of Dark Hado from them. Forcing him to tank the lightning that knocked him out of the sky, but dispersing the clouds with his own corruption.

The Thunder God's anger spiked as he rushed the fallen, smoking Aku ma, who barely had time to rise as he was hit with a barrage of lightning. Powering through it, the former brother of Gouken grabbed Raiden by the head and brought up his knee, unleashing a number of hard hitting, devastating blows against his opponent. But as he looked to finish the fight upon wrapping his hand across Raidens neck, the God of Thunder sent a pulse through the ground, stunning the Demon before unsheathing his electric blades.

His blades slashed in an upward arc, slicing a near perfect X into Akuma's chest. He followed up by driving one blade into Akumas leg, and the other driving through his chest. The blade cut through Akumas flesh like butter, piercing through the back of his shoulder and spewing dark energy from the wounds.

And then, Akuma laughed for the first time in the entire battle, making Raiden flinch for just a moment before the Demon raised his fist and punched the ground, releasing a wave of dark energy that knocked Raiden back. The wounds on Akumas chest and back began to heal on their own, as if his entire structure had been replaced with nothing but pure energy.

Akuma-vs-Raiden-9

Knowing he had to end this quickly, Raiden grabbed at his chest and yelled to the heavens, ‘’I will defend Earthrealm, at any costs!’’ before summoning as much electricity as he could. So much so that it burned the air around him and scorched the floor with his prints.

Akuma scowled, planted his foot down and commanded ‘’Come at me like your life depends on it!” with enough force to shake the entire building. His aura, a mix of blue and red that pushed back against the heavens themselves.

It was do or die.

Akuma-vs-Raiden-8

Raiden let out a battle cry as he stormed Akuma from across the room, his entire body nearly disappearing in a light so bright that it would have left any mortal man blind, and burned their shadows into the earth. Akuma lifted his feet and charged towards the center of the room where he and Raiden would meet. His body became one with the darkness that surrounded him to the point that even the brightest star couldn’t reveal him.

With the distance between him and his foe closing in, Raiden angled his right hand to drive right through Akumas chest and end this battle once and for all. His fingers grazed Akumas nape and burned the skin, but that's as far as they made it before Akumas own hands snatched Raiden from the air like a fly, and everything in his vision went black.

Everything except Akumas bright red eyes.

‘’Die one Thousand Deaths!”

Akuma-vs-Raiden-7

Just as with Shang Tsung before, Akuma struck the Elder God so fast that he couldn’t comprehend what was happening. All he could feel was the weight of everything he’d swore to protect being railed into his body with precise and brutal strikes from all directions. As if his soul itself was being eviscerated.

And then it was over.

Boomstick: I mean...it's…I sorta...ya this one should have been a bit obvious.

Wiz: Raiden was the more experienced fighter, at least when it came to his hundreds of years of combat experience and his mastery of hundreds of different forms of jiu-jitsu. And he does have a wider range of abilities, so he could certainly hold his own.

Boomstick: Unfortunately, you’ll need to do more than hold your own to stand a chance against an angry Akuma. This is the guy who causally got up after being thrown into a mountain, and just as casually broke a mountain in half with one punch. And he wasn’t even at his most powerful at the time of those events, so even Raiden would be hard pressed to deal a lethal blow.

Wiz: To his credit, Raiden was significantly faster than Akuma, clocking in at Mach 5 while Akuma could only reach around Mach 3 when scaling to Ryu. And he was more versatile with his choice of abilities, even having the option of simply banishing Akuma to another dimension. He also did have enough utilities like resistance to corruption to protect him from the Dark Hado and near full control over his own soul, so even the Raging Demon wasn't guaranteed to kill him.

Boomstick: The biggest challenge Raiden had to face was lasting long enough to deal critical damage, which unfortunately meant having to tank the worst of Akumas aggressive offense. And even if he did manage to last long enough, Akuma suffers from the trope that most fighting game bosses fall into as he's been known to hold back his full potential unless absolutely necessary. And given what we've seen when he does hold back, his strength and durability alone dwarfs Christopher Lamberts.

Wiz: As powerful and durable as Raiden has shown himself to be, like the time his essence withstood a blast that HE created worth 135 thousand tons of TNT, it's still nowhere near the overall output of the 400 thousand tons of TNT needed to destroy an entire island with a single punch. And that wasn’t even Shin-Akuma. Even if we choose to ignore the time Shin-Akuma destroyed a meteorite, which according to Alakabamm would require 28.725 petatons of TNT, the mere fact that Shin-Akuma is an option at all puts the Master of the Fist at a much higher threshold than even Dark Raiden.

Boomstick: And lets not forget that the Raging Demon targets not just a persons soul, but uses their sins against them. And Raiden, bless him and all, but he’s guilty of quite a few grievances. Then again, Raidens soul is durable so its possible he could survive in the long run, but he'd most likely be incapacitated like he did after trying to blow up Onaga. Think of it as a fate worse than death.

Wiz: Raiden is a wise and skilled fighter, but his limits are much easier to spot than Akumas, who, to this day has only continued to grow even more vicious and powerful. To the point that even Ryu has recognized him as overcoming all human limitations and surpassing even himself at the moment. And thats 'Power of Nothingness' Ryu.

Boomstick: Raidens chances of winning were a Dark Had-no

Trivia[]

  • This battle would be in 2d.
  • In a way, this is a battle of the opposites as Akuma is an antagonist/final boss, while Raiden is a protagonist.
    • Both are also vastly different in ideals. Akuma is a wandering warrior who believes that the weak deserve no protection or mercy, while Raiden is the protector of Earthtrealm.
    • Yet despite their differences, both do have codes of honor that prevent them from committing certain acts, unless overtaken by rage. Akuma doesn't kill his opponents unless he judges them as worthy in fair combat, and Raiden won't interfere or fight in the MK tournaments unless challenged directly.
  • The two are considered the most powerful fighters of their respective franchises, next to the main character (Ryu and Liu Kang)
    • They also have darker, more powerful forms that they will only take in extreme cases. Those being Dark Raiden and Shin Akuma respectively.
  • Both have brothers who have fought both with and against them at certain points in their lives. (Being Fujin and Gouken respectively)
  • Both are voiced by Richard Epcar (Akuma only in SFV)
