Akihiko Sanada VS Ryohei Sasagawa is the 35th episode of DEATH BATTLE!, featuring Akihiko Sanada from Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 video game series and Ryohei Sasagawa from Katekyō Hitman Reborn! series in a battle between powerful boxers with astonishing abilities.
Interlude[]
Solt: Among every team to stood up against impossible odds, there is always at least one member from the group who likes to get up close and personal to the enemy. Ready to dive headfirst into danger using nothing but their powerful fists to guide them out of situations.
Peppor: And these two fighters are top-tier in that field!
Solt: Akihiko Sanada, the electrifying Two-Fisted Persona user of the Emperor Arcana.
Peppor: And Ryohei Sasagawa, the Sun Guardian of the tenth generation of the Vongola Famiglia. He's Solt and I'm Peppor.
Solt: And it's our task to analyze their equipment, abilities, and capabilities to find out who would win---
Solt & Peppor: ---A DEATH BATTLE!!!
Akihiko Sanada[]
Solt: In Tatsumi Port Island located in the city of Iwatodai, there was an experiment conducted there that turned the place into a nightmare. The powerful conglomerate; Kirijo Group, began an experiment years ago relating to the "Collective Unconscious" a realm beyond human understanding that connects to every living being's subconscious mind.
Peppor: And within it, demons or "Shadows" dwell. There's also some otherworldly folks roaming there sometimes. But anyways, the head honcho of the Kirijo Group wanted to harness the powers of the Shadows, so he orders his group to perform some inhumane experiments and soon got the result. But since conducting demonic studies mostly never turns out okay...
Solt: Oh, they got their results all right. The experiment accidentally unleashed a hidden period between one day and the next known as the "Dark Hour". At the stroke of every midnight, the world seemingly stops in time, transforms the surroundings into a horrid place, and turn most people unconscious and transmogrify them into floating coffins.
Peppor: What a creepy place. But definitely the right kind of setting suited for filming low budget horror flicks! Bring a camera, a would-be-victim, and throw someone dressed up as lunatic killer there and have them swing around random tools of killing, and you got yourself a movie that can surpass those from blockbusters!
Solt: That's a great thought. But during the events of the Dark Hour, all electricity and machines die out. Cellphones, and any other gadgets becomes useless too. Once more, the place is also filled with roaming malevolent monsters.
Peppor: Them "Shadows", right?
Solt: Right on mark.
Peppor: My name's not mark.
Solt: Uhh... and these creatures are completely immune to conventional means too. To encounter one means certain end.
Peppor: But since most ordinary folks don't even notice this special time exists, everything continues on like nothing happened when the extra hour runs up. Lucky them. But I can't say the same to some who remained aware to witness the Dark Hour happening in their surroundings. Sucks for them.
Solt: Those unlucky few who are aware of the Dark Hour are in danger of having their minds feed on by Shadows, leaving them a husk of their former selves after the paranormal event pass by.
Peppor: Basically leaving them brain dead, or as I would like to call it, a Zombie! GRRR! ARGHH! BRAINS...!
Solt: Haha. You really know what that's like.
Peppor: Aside from those vicious black beasties sprouting about, a large tower called "Tartarus" (not an anti-depressant or toothpaste brand) also rises out of the ground from where the experiment took place, which is a school in daytime. Unless you don't have the "Potential", your chances of surviving the Dark Hour are pretty much slim to none.
Solt: Those with the potential are able to summon a "Persona", a powerful manifestation of the mind and soul, one's own psyche. Which can only be acquire by resolving one's self towards death.
Peppor: Which in reality... is pretty much harder to do than when you say it. There are like, many who are... you know, afraid of death. I mean, when you first meet her, you're taken aback by her menacing yet beaut---
Solt: ---we both know too well about her. But one should be prepared to accept death with open arms---
Peppor: ---Oh, I'll accept her with open arms, all right.
Solt: I'm referring to literal death. The path towards it is inevitable. And, well... all roads eventually lead to the same path. Except for the likes of us... who are defects of everyday society and common sense.
Peppor: You're doing it again.
Solt: Pardon me. Bad habits of mine. Anyway, while many are afraid of accepting death, there are those brave enough to welcome her... I mean, literal death.
Peppor: Just take for example the hardcore students of Gekkoukan High. Specifically the members of S.E.E.S.. Now these guys are something else!
Solt: In order to unleashed their Persona, the members of the organization known as the Special Extracurricular Execution Squad---
Peppor: ---S.E.E.S. would do just fine, thank you.
Solt: Use an object called an "Evoker" which shapely resemble a gun, which is probably to overcome one's psychological blocks. To trigger such resolve, S.E.E.S. holds the Evoker to their heads and---
Peppor: ---Fire! They dead. Is what I would say if a silhouette of a powerful entity didn't appear behind!
Solt: Firing the Evoker is a way to summon a Persona. And having a Persona enhances their user’s physical and mental abilities near superhuman levels, enabling them to combat and harm Shadows.
Peppor: S.E.E.S. is consists of members who got the "Potential" and filled with different issues. Mostly from not getting over the loss of their loved ones, heavy obligations, difficulties getting along with others, and... severe protein addiction.
Solt: You're referring to Akihiko Sanada, right?
Peppor: Yep. Besides being the obvious combatant here today, he's one of the few protein junkies thirsting for power that I know of who got the balls to directly assault malicious monsters with nothing but his fists and sheer boldness!
Solt: But before he acquired the power and the resolve to fight, Akihiko experienced first hand what is like to be powerless. Akihiko grew up in an orphanage alongside his younger sister; Miki, and best friend Shinjiro.
Peppor: And when it comes to being raised in an orphanage, a tragic back story always comes along to lift up that certain individual's life. In Akihiko's case, his younger sister died in a fire accident in the orphanage. Bummer. Why is it always younger siblings and parents though? Can they at least minimize the level to a pet next time?
Solt: Devastated by her death due to his own powerlessness, Akihiko vowed to become stronger so that he can protect those precious to him. So, he took up boxing as a way in learning how to fight, and works hard in honing his skills. With near-constant training, he soon became the captain of the boxing club as well hold the title of student champion in boxing.
Peppor: With his incredible boxing skills, only a handful of his opponents could stand to trade blows with him. Akihiko's skills in fighting eventually got him the attention of Mitsuru Kirijo, the young heiress of the Kirijo Group, and recruited him into S.E.E.S.. Turns out, Akihiko got the potential and unleashed his Persona; Polydeuces, of the Emperor Arcana.
Solt: I know what you're wondering. What the heck S.E.E.S. does exactly? Well, besides being a legit school club, members of this organization are all composed of Persona users. Well, students actually, who are brought together to investigate the mysteries of the Dark Hour.
Peppor: S.E.E.S. devouted themselve to explore the dreaded labyrinth tower of Tartarus, which is the breeding ground of Shadows, combat hordes of them, and put an end to the threat of the Dark Hour. S.E.E.S. became much stronger after having experienced all personal growth during the course of their battles.
Solt: After getting over his guilt over the loss of his sister and best friend---
Peppor: ---oh yeah! Shinji died along the way... sucks.
Solt: Triggers the evolution of Akihiko's Persona to its ultimate form; Caesar. A more fitting figure to represent the Emperor Arcana.
Peppor: Akihiko later became a member of the Shadow Operatives (a matured S.E.E.S.), and goes on a training expedition around the world to perfect his punch, which is actually his means of preparations for special missions in eliminating Shadows since... well, turns out, the world is filled with them afterall.
Solt: Aside from enhancing their users, Personas also serve as a guardian spirit that aids their users in battle. They can move and attack independently of their users via thought, allowing the user to execute a double-team attack alongside their Persona.
Peppor: Caesar will shock and awe anyone who witness his presence on the battlefield! Literally!
Solt: Caesar can reduce his opponents damage power (Matarunda), defense (Marakunda), and speed (Masukunda). Can further double his user's physical damage (Power Charge), greatly heal Akihiko's wounds (Diarahan), and cast a devastating explosion (Megidolaon) that ignores special defenses.
Peppor: He can also shut opponents up (Silence) and prevents them from using special abilities and skills. Caesar can also shock and paralyze his opponents with heavy electricity (Maziodyne), this attack will inflict shock on anyone even while they guard against it. And with Caesar's most powerful lightning blast (Thunder Reign) surely delivers severe damage!
Solt: And he can also imbued Akihiko with electricity (Thunder Fists), granting his user the ability to induce paralysis to foes with punches. And the sword that Caesar wields ain't a decoration either. He can swipe that sharp thing to slice his opponents smoothly like butter.
Peppor: Just by having Caesar already strengthens Akihiko's physical damage (Master Fist)! Namely, punching power! Greatly strengthens (Elec Amp) Akihiko's electricity damage as well, and also make Akihiko highly sturdy against Light and Darkness, as well near immune to electricity and lightning attacks too!
Solt: Each Persona has a set of elemental affinities which also applies to their user. And to compensate for his user's lack of projectile moves, Caesar can suck or pull his opponents towards him using gravity.
Peppor: Which is a nice touch in assisting Akihiko during battle since his means of attack is to pummel his opponent with his fist. And unlike other Persona users, the S.E.E.S. can call forth their Personas in reality with the use of the Evoker, and to an extent, outright summon their Personas without it.
Solt: Akihiko is one example. He gained the will to summon his Persona without the use of an Evoker while picking fights abroad. He revolves around fighting for the sheer heck of it without relying much on his Persona too. And while Personas cannot be really killed, they can be overtaxed if they take too much damage, and becomes unusable for a short time.
Peppor: And just like Shadows, since Personas and Shadows are technically two sides of the same coin, they're also resistant to most conventional forms of attacks.
Solt: And if they do take damange (the Persona), they will injure their user, not physically though, but instead, the user suffers severe feedbacks on their mind and body.
Peppor: Uh huh. Care to elaborate it?
Solt: When a Persona gets damage, so does their user, but in a way of suffering from heavy strain on their stamina and from mental pain. It's also noted that using a Persona weighs on the user's mind and spirit.
Peppor: Really? Then them Persona users better handle their Persona with care. But in Akihiko's case, he has no problem if Caesar becomes immobile. Heck, aside with his connection to his Persona, the results of his training also paid off when it made Akihiko more superior from others. His senses were greatly honed, allowing him to sense and anticipate nearby danger and hostile presences in his vicinity, developed keen eyesight that lets him see from long distances and... well, "see faster". Is that even a real thing?
Solt: Maybe. It even aided Akihiko in dodging against gunfire by seeing fast enough where the gun is pointing and evade it shot, so perhaps. But it's more like "Intuition", is what I would call it. But that's just my opinion. Anyway, Akihiko also got an innate ability that increases his chances of dishing out critical damage (Apt Pupil), as well reducing his chances of being hit by critical damage (Sharp Student). He also got indomitable willpower, allowing him to fight back hardships despite exhaustion or from being severely weakened or injured.
Peppor: Now that's probably the accumulated effects of protein kicking in! Look at his rippling physic! He's got overwhelming intense presence that instantly silenced so-called tough guys all around the world! And his aura is so impressive too, that even the pop star idol Risette, have difficulties sensing his presence. And her Persona specializes in scanning and detection too.
Solt: Being a professional and highly skilled boxer, Akihiko fights and relies more on his fists in dealing the majority of the damage than his Persona. His punches are powerful as they are fast. Akihiko has multiple ways to close the gap between him and his opponent, and can execute quick combos that easily deal massive damage. He can rush down his opponents and unleash a flurry of punches (Kill Rush), follows it up by delivering an astonishing hook (Boomerang Hook), and can finish it up with a powerful straight punch (Corkscrew). He can also send his foe flying with a quick upward punch (Sonic Punch), and delivers a rough landing to any opponent on the ground or in midair by diving towards them from the sky (Assault Dive). And if he wants to dish out serious damage, Akihiko can unleash a fierce uppercut (Cyclone Uppercut) that takes both him and his foe into the air.
Peppor: He probably stumbled upon "Shen Long" and defeats him to meet "Ryu" and learn that "Shoryuken" type of move during his travels abroad. Or he probably met a drunk "Ken"at some bar and taught him the move. Or he exchange fists with the king!
Solt: Wild theories aside, Akihiko's movements are so fast, he swiftly darts around his foe when pummeling them with rapid combos. His insane eyesight also allows him to quickly time his reaction too, and evade incoming attacks and projectiles by ducking, parrying, weaving, and dodging. His quick reflex also grants him mobility fast enough to leave afterimages of himself when shifting his stances, creating openings from his opponent to take advantage of and follow-up with counterattacks. And he can counter moves with a higher rate of effectiveness, to boot.
Peppor: But if Akihiko wanna does some serious damage, he can call forth Caesar to suck his opponent with a powerful gravitational pull into the miniature earth he carries with him and have them transported into some sort of pocket dimension where Akihiko is seen careening downward at termal velocity on top of his foe and finishes them off with a hell of a straight punch so powerful, it causes a visible explosion on the upper portion of Caesar's globe! (Earth Breaker) Damn! Literally an earth-shattering blow!
Solt: Hence, the name of the move. However though, there's one crucial flaw. If the globe in Caesar's hands is somehow struck, it causes the Persona to outright explode.
Peppor: As if that mattered to Akihiko! He can still dished out helluva damage without his Persona! He caught, repelled, and blocked sharp bladed weapons with his bare hands! Easily smashed through walls, sent anyone flying with a simple punch, casually obliterated stockpiles of Shadows, withstood against a gravitational wave that cracks the stone below him, and is strong enough to damage the likes of boss Shadows, Nyx Avatar, and Erebus.
Solt: Akihiko is also capable of keeping up with other Persona users, fast enough to dodge gunfire and evade lightning, quick enough to catch arrows out of the air, capable of leaping high in a single bound, and gave Naoto trouble in evading his punches.
Peppor: And his jacked body ain't just for show too! That body of his goes through a fire attack unscathed, being blasted back by a strong wind attack, endured being turned into an ice sculpture, tanked strikes from gargantuan enemies the likes of boss Shadows, Nyx Avatar, and Erebus, and survived a car crash, as well from an explosion that totally wrecked a whole bridge! Wow! Are all Persona users this tough? Hmm... maybe I should request to get my own Persona on my next check-up... I'm guessing my arcana would likely be... the DEVIL! Hahaha!
Solt: You would fair better with the Moon arcana, since you're kind of... robust and all.
Peppor: Oh! Yours would be the FOOL then! Fool!
Solt: Signifies journey... hmm. I dig it. And in terms of Akihiko's Persona capabilities, his initial Persona; Polydeuces, is strong enough to flip over and knocked down the Chariot boss Shadow, and is even tough enough to finished off boss Shadows with its strikes.
Peppor: Heck! The Persona's lightning attack is powerful enough to striking down giant shadows! And Caesar even one shots a derange hobo's (Takaya) Persona; Hypnos, by summoning heavy lightning (Maziodyne)!
Solt: Indeed. Both Akihiko and Caesar are formidable in battle. But while Akihiko looks wild and intimidating, he's actually quite reasonable, as well intelligent, and is quick to pick up on things. And despite of his quite aloof and serious demeanor, Akihiko greatly enjoys fighting stronger opponents. As such, he can be quite aggressive sometimes, and tends to show his excitement for big challenges, and can be thick-headed.
Peppor: And like a person or "thing" that I know of, Akihiko responds logically to everything in reason, which leads to his severe bluntness and obliviousness at times.
Solt: That's directed at me, I take it?
Peppor: Maybe... Akihiko's Persona affinity also makes him prone to the Ice element, and he's also got no reliable option against opponents who likes attacking from afar, making it an uphill battle whenever he's up against projectile spammers.
Solt: Well, Akihiko's the type to put himself through anything in order to get stronger. But although he's strong enough already, Akihiko still gladly fights with a group so he could continue strengthening himself in protecting others. As everything relies on connections... and connections are another form of power in their universe called "Bonds".
Peppor: Don't let his tough and perverted look frighten you. While he dresses up like a crazy person, Akihiko is actually very kind, cool, and have great sense of justice! He will likely go out of his way just to ensure the safety, as well take the chance to save others if can. Facing against difficulty head on with unwavered resolution.
Akihiko: The pain of loss is my source of determination... I must stay strong in order to protect those who are precious and by my side right now.
Ryohei Sasagawa[]
Solt: The Mafia always lives on the edge of life and death. Murder. Revenge. Betrayal. The endless pursuit of political power, and the history of the Vongola Famiglia. But in truth, the Vongola Famiglia began as a vigilante group, swore to protect the people.
Peppor: And in every generation, the head honcho of the Vongola have always had their guardians alongside them, serving as the pillars and sometimes enforcers for their mafia family.
Solt: And each guardian member have their own unique specialties that puts them above typical hitmen.
Peppor: Most of them have weird abilities, and possess insane amount of strength and willpower that puts them on superhuman levels! And for some odd reason, each of the guardians are linked to the atmospheric conditions... err, elements of the sky? Anyway! The job of these weather guardians is to protect their boss and keep their family safe, as well guard their turf.
Solt: And among the generation of the Vongola Famiglia, it was the 10th family under Tsunayoshi Sawada, who made history by accomplising the absurd and impossible. Vongola the 10th's guardians are uniquely suited to their element, but among them, it was Vongola the 10th's Sun Guardian who embodies the Guardian duty to the extreme.
Peppor: Fearless in the face of danger, the Guardian of the Sun endures and smashes adversity with their body! Specifically, with their powerful fists and legs!
Solt: The Sun Guardians are mostly composed of martial artists, who directly engage their enemies upclose and physical than opposed to the other Guardians.
Peppor: And Vongola the 10th's Sun Guardian specializes in punching everything and everyone standing in his way.
Solt: Ryohei Sasagawa is the 6th and oldest member to join Tsuna's mafia family, as well one of the chosen seven picked to be his guardians.
Peppor: Ryohei earned the slot of guardian potential due to his excellent boxing skills, as well being already acquainted to Tsuna, who's a junior in their school, and who also happens to have a crush on his younger sister; Kyoko. Ryohei's so passionate about boxing, that he even got the position of captain of the boxing club in his school.
Solt: Ryohei took up boxing so he can better protect those he cares about, and rigorously trains everyday in honing his boxing skills. By the time he was scouted to be one of Tsuna's Guardian, he already have plenty of potential on him to fill in the role.
Peppor: This isn't exactly ordinary mafia we're talking about here. Oh no. Everyone involved in the Vongola Famiglia hardly qualify as humans! And Ryohei is one for possessing undying willpower and for being too persistent!
Solt: As one of the guardians of the Vongola Famiglia, Ryohei is quite powerful. However though, out of the chosen family guardians, he's deemed the weakest by some.
Peppor: WEAK MY ASS! Ryohei is the arguably one of the strongest of the bunch! Especially at causing massive damage to the surroundings, as well in physical combat! He can easily break his opponent's everything just by his mere punches!
Solt: Well, his arcobaleno teacher; Colonello, did state that Ryohei already have plenty of power on him when the latter trained under him, only lacking on how to use them correctly at their fullest. But after keeping up with Colonello's harsh training, even surpassing his expectations, Ryohei became several times stronger, and improved proper usage of his abilities.
Peppor: Ryohei's an awesome guy! He risks everyday life to the limit by treating it as a life and death situation. And this is before being mixed up in the Vongola mafia. Ryohei have great stamina surpassing those of athletes, is always pumped-up, and is the kind who's always in "Dying Will Flame mode" by always living to the extreme, making him special among others since it's rarely found in anybody. Unlike his boss, who needed some extra boost first to trigger his own flame to do something amazing.
Solt: Ryohei lacks fear, and doesn't faze when up against anything, even from supernatural entities like ghosts. He also possesses an intimidating aura that can silence most people, and have sharp instincts and accute senses that allows him to feel his enemies presence within his vicinity, and as well aid him against illusionary attacks.
Peppor: With his enthusiasm, extreme spirit, and unyielding resolve, Ryohei naturally inherited the powers of the Sun Ring of the Vongola after becoming Tsuna's Sun Guardian. Ryohei mixed up his boxing skills along with his Sun Guardian's abilities to overwhelm his opponents in battle. And by already possessing permanent Deathperation Flames (Dying Will Flames), Ryohei easily unlocked his potential as the Sun Guardian in utilizing the Sun Flame for combat.
Solt: The Sun Flame is one type of the seven attributes of the Dying Will Flames of the Sky. Yellow in color, the Sun Flame holds the ability known as; Activation, and it has the power to induce and improve the efficiency of any type of activity.
Peppor: Uh huh. Care to elaborate on the subject again?
Solt: Surely, everyone understood that simple explanation.
Peppor: Well, if I did, would I ask you about it a second time? And don't call me Shirley.
Solt: Okay... to make it clear so, Activation is an ability most useful in supporting others by strengthening them up to increase their damage output, and heal injuries. Albeit a difficult ability to use while in direct combat, Ryohei somehow impressively managed to have gotten over the drawback of the Sun Guardian's special ability.
Peppor: All right! Who's idea was it to make melee fighters double as healers?
Solt: Funny you'd asked about that. There are many, actually, who fights with martial arts as their forte while also doubling as support. Take for example the Monk class fighters. Now those guys could pack a punch as well heal a bunch.
Peppor: Haven't encountered one yet.
Solt: We literally just did an analyzation similar to their class recently... someone like say, Akihiko? Or perhaps, even Ryohei?
Peppor: Pfft! Please! These guys doesn't strike me as one. Boxers as healers... imagine that!
Solt: Well, suit yourself...
Peppor: It wasn't hard figuring out a way to cause more damage all the while healing bruises for Ryohei since he's the type who learns by doing rather than thinking. Wither by fluke, experience, or both, Ryohei is quite capable of casually empowering and healing himself at the same time, even while in the midst of battle. Oh...
Solt: Realized it now? Or are you still in the middle of processing...?
Peppor: Oh, shut it.
Solt: But whenever Ryohei heals others though, he usually uses a scalpel near them to treat their injuries.
Peppor: What a strange way to heal the injured. If I see a doctor with a scalpel on them about to treat my wounds, I would either get out of bed and escape the hospital as fast as Roadrunner, or just straight-up faint.
Solt: The latter would likely happen. But when Ryohei applies healing on himself, especially in battle, he's usually covered in an aura of gold around him shining like the Sun, which regenerates his cell at tremendous rate, gradually healing Ryohei's wounds overtime. The Sun Flames also drastically increase the user's body functions, greatly improving their maneuverability and reflexes.
Peppor: And after venturing into the future, getting to meet the first Vongola Guardians... long story. Tsuna's group acquired box-type weapons which granted them personal pets suited to their element, which was later converted into rings, all the while receiving elemental weapons too. Sometime later, some craftsman guy named; Talbot, merged both the Vongola and Animal Rings into one powerful accessory!
Solt: Of course, being a boxer, Ryohei's gear is that of one. Activating the Sun Flames through his Vongola Ring, Ryohei can unleash his Cambio Forma Version X ability, in where Ryohei is granted and equipped with a pair of special red gloves with silver bracelets on them with the same ability as the Sun's "Activation" power, fortifying Ryohei's gloves with high speed self-healing properties.
Peppor: Oh great! Now his boxing gloves have healing powers on them too. What does it do? Hurt and heal his foes at the same time after punching them? That's just messed up.
Solt: Well, it usually multiplies the user's living cells at a tremendous rate. In simple terms, whenever Ryohei's fists gets damage when delivering and/or guarding from devastating blows, the wounds on his fist rapidly heals fast. This is perfect when up against foes with degerating properties. Ryohei's healing properties on his gloves were even powerful enough to overpower that of Serpente Tempesta's Flames of Degeration ability.
Peppor: Aside from the gloves, Ryohei's also got a coupling of golden thigh, knee, and shin guards for defense against opponents like Kickboxers and practitioners of Muay Thai aiming to cripple his legs. He's also got a shoulder armor which protects his right chest, and is equipped with a golden bangle on his left arm, and a headgear with emblems of the Sun guardian of the Vongola Famiglia. He's also got a pair of boots imbued with Sun Flames that grants Ryohei high leaping ability and flight! Now this is one fully-geared boxer!
Solt: Oh ho! It gets even better! The Cambio Forma Version X also further enhance the Activation properties of Ryohei's Sun Flames. While the previous form only lasts 3 minutes longer, the latest lasts indefinitely so long as the ability is active. A normal human would collapse under the overwhelming pressure.
Peppor: But Ryohei's certainly no ordinary person. And let's not forget about Ryohei's pet animal! He can summon his elemental spirit animal, which is a kangaroo by the way named; Garyu, and is capable of commanding her via telepathically to aid him either by fighting together in battle, Garyu can pack quite a punch as well kick hard enough, has great jumping and stomping power, and can empower and heal her partner by shooting Sun Flames from her mouth. Okay... oh! And Ryohei can also use a durable golden rope reinforced by Sun Flames to restrain his foe. He also dons a formal attire made from special durable material that withstood attacks from Deathperation Flames.
Solt: Ryohei's always training nonstop, and as a result, his proficiency in hand-to-hand combat and endurance became top-notched. And being a Vongola hitman, Ryohei overcome various obstacles and situations that further improve his skills as a fighter.
Peppor: Ryohei's quite capable of taking and giving huge amount of punishment! He can execute combinations and series of punches like jabs, hooks, straights, upper-cuts, and can easily close in the gap by quickly rushing into his opponent using his swift footwork.
Solt: Ryohei's style of combat is to wear down his opponent using a barrage of powerful punches and techniques. With his iconic attack (Maximum Cannon), Ryohei unleashes the power of all his cells into one powerful punch that unleashes a mighty blow of sun energy.
Peppor: The move is so freaking devastating, that a single punch blew away a whole gymnasium, completely destroyed a huge airship, and even cleared part of the forest out just by its sheer impact! Wow! Now that's some striking power his packing! If Ryohei attempts to execute this ultimate move in the ring, he'll certainly send his opponent straight up into the morgue! Along with the ring and everything too.
Solt: And he'll also be forever banned in boxing as well. But here's the best part of his devastating technique. Ryohei can also multiply the damage by using the swift movement that he learned from Lussuria, to splitting into three and striking his opponent at once (Maximum Ingram).
Peppor: Seriously? And three you say? Damn! That's tripple the damage then!
Solt: Maximum damage true. Aside from his special attack, Ryohei can also unleash a series of quick rapid punches that's almost impossible to dodge (Maximum Combination). He can also strengthen up his straight punch by using the Sun Flames to enhance his attack (Sunshine Straight), as well convert the damage he suffered into a direct blast of solar ray that has a range of several dozen meters or more that destroys anything it touches (Sunshine Counter). The more damage Ryohei has taken, the greater the power of the counter-blast becomes. Ryohei can even use the converted damage into executing one powerful move (Sunshine Uppercut).
Peppor: And they say Vongola the 10th's Sun Guardian is weak. I say otherwise! Ryohei totally embodies striking power itself! No wonder his future self became a champion in boxing and got a girlfriend. Oh yeah, Tsuna's Vongola Famiglia traveled to the future and back. It was weird.
Solt: It doesn't make sense for a bunch of kids from the past to fight and clean up the mess of the future world.
Peppor: Yeah. But don't think too hard on it. Others have it far more worse. Ryohei is always eager to fight anyone, especially those sharing the same fighting spirit as him.
Solt: Ryohei's answer to any problem is... punching. He can punch so hard his fists emits smoke, dent steel walls, casually burst through concrete walls, and overpowered huge enemies the likes of Serpente Tempeste (which is a giant serpent), and even sent it flying with a punch into the air. Ryohei's even tough enough to pull his arm out from a crocodiles jaw. And these creatures have the strongest bite force in the animal kingdom. Approximately with a force of over 5,000 pounds per square inch. Heck, Ryohei even punches out from dinosaurs ganging up on him at once.
Peppor: I only knew a few "legends" who can pull off that kind of thing. (P.S. I'm one of them, by the way). Ahem. Aside from power, Ryohei's speed and quickness is also intense! Ryohei is capable of deflecting Yamamoto's pitch going at 140 kilometer per hour, matched Lussuria's footwork, who is fast enough to move in a blink of an eye, dodged incoming missiles, and is so quick, he even shattered a hollow-block too fast for the human eyes to follow. Ryohei even kept up with Kikyo's speed, and this guy could evade laser fire as well move at massively hypersonic speed.
Solt: To be frank though, Ryohei's only capable of pulling off that kind of feat by activating his Cambio Forma form.
Peppor: Uh right! Ryohei even got near Kikyo's range before the latter could react! Extremely impressive of him!
Solt: Ryohei's also got a tough body as well. He casually tanked explosions ranging from grenades, dynamites, and even missiles. Took Colonello's shot at point-blank range, which is capable of obliterating a giant rock, took hits from his own phantom self, withstood blows from a Deathperation flame-empowered Tsuna, and endured fighting Gamma the lightning long enough than others could. Even to extreme lengths, Ryohei is capable of withstanding mortal blows on the body, and still have the breath to continue fighting.
Peppor: He's got extremely good records on his fighting career too. Ryohei defeated that cupcake Muay Thai specialist of an assassin; Lussuria, matched Hibari in a fight, almost overwhelmed Kikyo single-handedly, if not for his injuries, and stalmated Kouyou Aoba of the Simon Famiglia in a boxing match. And this Kouyou guy is capable of receiving Maximum Cannon head-on! How extreme! Willpower, technique, strength, speed and endurance! Seems like Ryohei's gotten all the essential part of a champion!
Solt: Well, Although Ryohei matured a bit, he still retains some of his intense and extreme personality. Often times bursting sudden excitement to everything they encounter on their mafia activities.
Peppor: And while cautious, Ryohei can be an airhead sometimes. He's also the kind of fighter that would let his "fists" do the talking, and is no doubt hot-blooded, hard-headed, as well guillable, loud, and forgetful.
Solt: Well, Ryohei's one hell of a risk taker, and likes to go head-on against any opponent, making him reckless and naive. Also, overusing his "Activation" ability leaves a severe toll on his body. And despite matching the level of Gamma the lightning, Ryohei have trouble fighting against him due to his elemental attributes, and was ultimately overwhelmed by him.
Peppor: Well, not all fighters have a perfect records, you know. But nevertheless! With a brutal passion that can repel any disaster, Vongola the 10th's Sun Guardian might just have enough willpower and techniques to outdo the competition.
Ryohei: A fist fight with no rules is nothing more than a brawl! I promised that I'd stop fighting! But when I have no choice but to fight, I will fight and win, fair and square!
Pre-Fight[]
Solt: All right. Both combatants are set! Let's end this battle of debates once and for all!
Peppor: It's time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!
Death Battle[]
In a dark alley, the Sun Guardian; Ryohei Sasagawa, of the Vongola, avidly investigates the area upon hearing a rumor about an "Extreme Fighting Coliseum" hidden beneath the city.
Ryohei: An underground arena, eh? That's interesting to the extreme!
His source told Ryohei a passageway to the hidden coliseum inside an abandoned establishment. He explores the place but couldn't find the entrance. Ryohei sweeps the area some more until...
Ryohei: Extremely infuriating! Wait a minute... underground? Hmm... I got it!
He goes to the center.
Ryohei: All right! I'm extremely sure this spot right here leads straight down to the coliseum!
After cracking his knuckles...
Ryohei: To the extreme!
The Vongola guardian punches the ground, the force behind it shatters the floor, and he fell below.
Beneath the floor of the building, were a mass of people spectating a battle between a white-haired boxer in a red cloak against a brute with cybernetic implant attached to his chest and wearing a military cap.
Red Hooded Man: Let's have a great match!
Cybernetic Brute: You are foolish to fight me.
Just as the two fighters were about to clash, the ceiling above them suddenly breaks away, and a figure drops into the fray.
Bystander: Wh-What the?!
Spectator: Someone broke in through the ceiling!
Onlooker: IT'S A RAID!
Afraid of being busted, the crowd began to panic and exit the coliseum.
Ryohei: Vongola Family's Guardian of the Sun, Ryohei Sasagawa, has cometh!
Ryohei interrupts the match with his dynamic entry.
Red Hooded Man: This could be interesting.
Cybernetic Brute: Interloper! Prepare to meet your ancestors!
Ryohei: Bring it on! My fists are aching for some action!
Ryohei releases a couple of punches in the air.
Red Hooded Man: (That form...)
The cybernetic brute throws punches at Ryohei, but the latter swiftly dodges them.
Ryohei: (Chance for a knockout!) Extreme right straight!
The Sun Guardian of the Vongola counters back so hard, not only he destroys the contraption on the brute's chest, but also sent him flying out of the arena. Dead.
Ryohei: I'm extremely fired up!
Red Hooded Man: (I've finally found an opponent worth my time here.) So you're a boxer too, huh? Well, since fate already brought us together, you up for a match with me? My fists are callin' out for a fight!
The red hooded man moves forward and place his hand towards Ryohei.
Ryohei: A fist fight to the extreme? You're on!
Ryohei reciprocates to the red hooded man's gesture and performs a quick fist bump before both fighters jump backwards into a fighting stance.
Ryohei: The Vongola Guardian of the Sun Ring, Ryohei Sasagawa, shall be your opponent!
Akihiko: I like the fire in your eyes. I'm Akihiko Sanada. Let's see which one of us is the stronger fighter!
FIGHT!
Both boxers charge at each other ready to clash their fists. The Vongola boxer attempts to use his signature move to KO his opponent early.
Ryohei: Maximum Cannon!
But Akihiko quickly shifts into defense and evades Ryohei's powerful punch. Akihiko felt the sheer force behind it.
Akihiko: Don't push your luck.
Ryohei: You dodged my... I'm impressed! But the real fight starts now! Extreme Combo!
The Guardian of the Sun Ring throws a series of punches on his foe, but the lightning brawler anticipated his opponent's straight-forward attacks and evades them. The Persona user tests his opponent's fighting skills and continues evading his punches.
Ryohei: What's with you? Don't just play around. Extreme straight!
The Sun Guardian unloads a heavy straight punch. Akihiko got his guard up and tries tanking the blow for a change, the force sends him skidding back.
Akihiko: Tch. All right. You're good.
The Vongola hitman follows through on his attack and rapidly throws a flurry of punches on the Persona boxer.
Ryohei: Fight for real!
Ryohei continues to aggressively assault Akihiko, who parry, blocks and evades, before unloading another forceful straight.
Akihiko: (Time to counter back!)
Akihiko weaves back and parry his opponent's incoming attack.
Akihiko: Looks like it's my turn!
Akihiko rushes down Ryohei and throws his own flurry of punches before pulling him back in with an astonishing Boomerang Hook and before finishing his combo with a Sonic Uppercut. The Vongola boxer got knocked back quite a few feet away before recovering back up.
Ryohei: (He's strong!) I'm extremely fired up now! Extreme dash!
Ryohei dashes towards his foe with great speed.
Akihiko: Fists don't lie, you know. Let's see whose passion comes out on top!
Both boxers charge at each other the second time. Akihiko decides to go on the offensive and throws a powerful straight punch.
Akihiko: Corkscrew!
Ryohei: (A corkscrew huh? In that case...) Corkscrew against corkscrew!
Ryohei counters his opponent's attack with the same move.
Both of their fists collides, the sheer impact of their punch causes the arena to shake and crumble, all the while having the debris fly out of the area.
The powerful collision sends both boxers back. Akihiko took most of it as he rolls on the ground and recovers back up, while Ryohei skids backwards. Both shake their arms from the recoil.
Ryohei: (Tough opponent!) Without extreme aggression, victory is impossible!
Akihiko: (Heh, this could be a real brawl.) Ha... I don't know about that. But my fists can't be stopped that easily.
Ryohei: Let's take it to the extreme! Go, surging rush!
Ryohei swiftly rushes again towards and starts punching Akihiko, but the Persona boxer was able to guard and counter them. The two then proceeds to punch at one another, countering blow-for-blow, before knocking the other back with their punch.
Ryohei: (Looks like the tension's high.) Right! I need to step it up!
The Guardian of the Sun Ring raise his right arm.
Ryohei: The extreme is always what I strive for!
The ring on the right hand of the Vongola hitman suddenly ignites flame.
Akihiko: Huh?
Ryohei: Come out, Garyuu!
The flames produce and manifest the shape of an animal resembling a kangaroo.
Ryohei: Let's go, Garyuu!
Both Ryohei and Garyuu rushes towards Akihiko.
Akihiko: (!)
Akihiko quickly got his guard up and tries to defend himself by keeping his distance away. The Persona boxer does his best to evade and block their impending attacks. But despite his great skill and effort in fending himself off from his attackers however, the Persona boxer was overwhelmed by the teamwork of the Sun Guardian and his elemental spirit animal.
Ryohei: Go for a KO!
At Ryohei's command, Garyuu executes a tremendous kick that knocks Akihiko backwards.
Akihiko: Tch. I'll be sure to return the favor... with my fists!
Ryohei: A bit early for you to be knocked out. The fight has only just begun! Come on, Garyuu! We're extremely charging the whole way!
The Vongola hitman and his spirit animal advances again towards their opponent.
Akihiko: Then time for me to make a comeback! Come, Persona!
Akihiko reach out for his evoker and shot himself in the head. A humanoid silhouette answers his summon and instantly manifests behind him.
Ryohei: (W-what!?) What's going on? What is that?
Ryohei momentarily halts from advancing just as Caesar unleashes lightning(Maziodyne) on the arena, smiting both Ryohei and Garyuu, and leaving them in a literal shocking predicament.
Ryohei: This... is nothing!
The boxer of the Sun struggles on his movement while the two-fisted Persona user leaps high.
Akihiko: I'll crush you!
And dives down on the two with fiery fists(Assault Dive), delivering another heavy blow on his foe and partner.
Akihiko: Taste this!
Following his Assault Dive move, the persona fighter swiftly took out Garyuu with a straight punch. He then proceeds to execute his Cyclone Uppercut on the staggered Ryohei.
Akihiko: You're done for!
The fierce uppercut takes both Akihiko and his opponent into the air before falling back down. Ryohei is roughly sent to the ground, tumbling and sliding across it.
It would be the end for some, but with the power of the Deathperation flame, the Vongola hitman of the Sun recovers back up.
Ryohei: Nothing can stop me... to the extreme!!
Akihiko: Heh. All right, come at me with everything you've got!
Ryohei: Let me handle this to the extreme! Garyuu! Take it to the limit!
Answering her master's call, the kangaroo recovers and shoots a yellow beam of energy from her mouth aim at her master before fading away. Ryohei absorbs the energy into himself and brightly shines with its color.
Ryohei: Vongola Sun Guardian's calling is... To crush all adversities that assault the Family with my own body! Shining brightly like the Sun!
Ryohei is covered in an aura of gold, similar to the sun's color. While most foes would be taken aback by the spectacle happening before them, it didn't fazed Akihiko one bit, rather, he was quite thrilled of facing the challenge.
Akihiko: A heated battle always gets me pumped up! Come on! Put up your dukes!
Ryohei: To the utmost limit! Cambio Forma Version X!
A portion of the bright light engulfing Ryohei was converted into gold boxing ornaments attached to his head, chest, shoulder, arms, knees, legs, and manifest him a pair of red gloves, as well a pair of boots.
Ryohei: Prepare yourself for the extreme!
Akihiko: Huh. Nice set of equipment you've got there. (Hmm... I should asked Mitsuru to provide something similar next time.)
Ryohei hovers, and in the blink of an eye, swiftly appears in front of Akihiko.
Akihiko: (!?)
Ryohei: Maximum Combination!
Caught off guard, the Persona boxer endures taking quick rapid punches and was sent away flying by his opponent. The Vongola Guardian jets after his enemy but Akihiko manages to recover airborne and counters back. Both boxers darts around the arena while exchanging a flurry of punches.
Akihiko manages to repel and stop Ryohei's last punch and sends him back with an uppercut combo. Seeing his chance, the Persona user of Caesar, summons his Persona and cast Power Charge on himself, enhancing his physical damage.
Ryohei: Extreme!!
Ryohei recovers his bruises thanks to his Activation ability, and wastes no time charging at Akihiko again. With his aerial maneuverability, Ryohei gave Akihiko difficulties in their melee, and overwhelmed the Persona user many times on their struggle.
Using his swift footwork, Ryohei creates illusions of himself and punches his foe.
Ryohei: Maximum Ingram!
Akihiko guards himself from the impact, but was overwhelmed and knocked back a few feet away.
Ryohei: That should do it.
Badly battered, and with bruises on his body, Akihiko goes down in one knee and starts breathing heavily out of exhaustion. However, the fight proves to be far from over.
Akihiko took a deep breath to lower his heart rate, punches the ground, and stood right back up more determined with a smile.
Akihiko: Its been a while since I had such an enjoyable fight.
Ryohei: (This guy... he's a fitting opponent!) Very well! A man's life is a never-ending fight!
Akihiko: You definitely have talent, but I can't let you beat me just yet!
Ryohei: I'm going for a KO! Extremely charging the whole way!
Akihiko readies himself while Ryohei's fists glows brighter after enhancing his punching power with the Sun Flames.
Akihiko: (It'll be bad if it hits, but I'll just dodge it, no problem.) Here it comes.
Ryohei: Sunshine Straight!
Ryohei jets and executes a forceful blow, but Akihiko perfectly evades it, fully dodging the powerful attack.
Ryohei: Shoot!
Akihiko: My turn!
Akihiko unleashes a flurry of punches as he darts around his foe before knocking him back.
Akihiko: Let's do this! Persona!
At his master's call, Caesar appears again and blasts(Thunder Reign) Ryohei with powerful lightning, knocking him to the ground as he cries in pain from the shock.
Akihiko: Just what I've been waiting for! Caesar!
Caesars appears again and reduces Ryohei's damage(Matarunda), defense(Marakunda), and speed(Masukunda) without his knowledge, before charging up Megidolaon.
Ryohei: Curse you!
With his guardian ability, Ryohei manages to regain his ground and counters back.
Ryohei: Take this! Sunshine Counter!
A portion of flames surrounding Ryohei converts the damage he took into a blast of solar ray aim at Akihiko and Caesar.
Akihiko: Wha? What on earth!?
Caesar unleashes Megidolaon just as the Sunshine Counter blast was near in front of them. The powerful collision of both attacks envelops the combatants in the explosion, further devastating the arena.
In the aftermath, both boxers were seen laying on the ground on their fronts. Ryohei slowly gets back up thanks to his Sun's Activation ability.
Ryohei: Wh-Whoa... I'm really feeling those injuries. Execute, High-Speed Regeneration!
Ryohei glows brighter as he focus his flames for recovery, and looks over at Akihiko, who was still laying on the ground.
Ryohei: (Even though I had my guard up, he was a fearsome man. Still...) That was a nice fight to the extreme!
Ryohei shouts a victory cry, but was cut short after Akihiko regained consciousness and stood right back up.
Ryohei: So persistent! (Seriously... who is this guy?)
Akihiko: Hrgg... you got potential, but you still lacked training... and protein!
Ryohei: Huh? WHAT?
Akihiko pulls out his Evoker again and holds it to the side of his head and pulls the trigger. Caesar appears behind and fully heals Akihiko with Diarahan, and casts Thunder Fists right after. Akihiko slams his fist together and generate sparks of electricity.
Ryohei: D-Damn it...!
Akihiko: Right! Let's do this!
Akihiko dashes at great speed towards Ryohei. The Sun Guardian of the Vongola tries to gain some distance to fully recover back his strength as he attempts to jet away.
Akihiko: Now's the time!
Answering Akihiko's call, Caesar appears yet again and pulls Ryohei towards him using the globe.
Ryohei: Wha--- What's going on!?
Akihiko: Got you!
Akihiko caughts up and unloads a flurry of punches back and forth, paralyzing Ryohei with electricity imbued punches. Ryohei staggers and was helpless, but regains his movement back before being fully sucked into Caesar's globe.
Ryohei: Tch! Damn! (Huh? That thing... Okay...!) Perfect way to end this! To the extreme! And for a bright future! Maximum Cannon!
Ryohei unleashes all the power of his cells into one mighty blow. The punch hits Caesar's globe and caused a widespread explosion to the whole arena, blowing away Akihiko and further devastating the surroundings. Almost turning the battlefield into charred ruins.
After the explosion, Ryohei was once again seen laying down on the canvas, slowly glittering out of glow while Akihiko, with a few bruises, punches out and emerges from the rubble. He turns to look around at what was left of the battlefield.
Akihiko: Huh. Maybe I went a little too far this time.
He turns over after hearing his foe's movements.
Akihiko: Ha... how amusing.
Ryohei's equipment disappeared just as his golden aura depleted.
Ryohei: I... won't lose!
Even while extremely bruised and exhausted, Ryohei firmly stood right back up ready to resumed the fight.
Akihiko: That's the spirit.
The Persona brawler gets back into a fighting stance.
Ryohei: My determination burns to the extreme!
Ryohei gathers the remaining and rising Deathperation flames into his fists, and rush towards Akihiko, ready to unload his devastating attack again.
Akihiko: Never said better myself.
Both boxers charge at each other for a KO this time.
Ryohei: Behold! Maximum Cannon!
However, Akihiko fakes Ryohei out and avoid his punch.
Akihiko: Checkmate.
Taking advantage of his vulnerability, Akihiko rushes in and delivers a barrage of punches before unloading a fierce uppercut.
The force sends Ryohei flying back, but before he can make a comeback however, he was completely sliced in half by Caesar's sword in midair from behind. The two halves of the Sun Guardian splits and lands messily on the ground with blood spurting out of it.
Akihiko sighs and look at his right hand.
Akihiko: Sheer, raw strength is pointless. Getting the ability to see your deepest wishes through, is true strength.
He then clenched it into a fist with Caesar appearing beside him raising his globe in victory.
K.O.!
Caesar disappears just as Akihiko covers himself with his ragged cloak and leaps out off screen while Ryohei's corpse was smashed by falling debris.
Results[]
Peppor: Talk about a decisive blow!
Solt: Both were able to hang in the fight against the other thanks to their honed senses, stubbornness, and healing powers. And while Ryohei's versatility and mobility in the field, as well punching power, proved a challenge to Akihiko, the Persona user was able to adapt and counter his opponent's attacks with his own abilities and fighting experience.
Peppor: With an innate and passive ability that Akihiko possesses, it reduce his chances of being hit, and at the same time, counter most of Ryohei's moves with higher chances of success, all the while dishing out critical damage too. Power is great and all, and is certainly a deciding factor in winning most matches, but if pit against a slippery target, then it would be an uphill battle.
Solt: Surprisingly however, both boxers were relatively similar in terms of quickness and agility, such as darting around at hypersonic speed. Ryohei might have the edge in mobility, but with Akihiko's status inducement spells, he can decrease his opponent's capabilities to match his level, or even surpassed it.
Peppor: And Ryohei had no counters to Akihiko's status effect spells either. What's worse is that Ryohei had to face again a certain problem from the past that he wasn't able to overcome. Lightning! And one so powerful at that too! There's no way he'd escape Akihiko’s entire lightning barrage of attacks!
Solt: And while it gradually takes time to regain Deathperation Flames, a broken Persona can manifest back a few seconds later. But even then, Akihiko doesn't rely much on his Persona to do the fighting, which makes it harder for his opponent to cripple his other source of power.
Peppor: Ryohei could take whatever punishment his foe could throw at him and return the favor thanks to his Activation ability and high willpower. However, Ryohei's healing powers has its limitations, and overusing it can take a severe toll on his body, whereas Akihiko had no such constraint on his Persona's abilities. What's more, there's also that huge difference of being gradually restored to health from being fully restored to health. And Caesar could fully heal Akihiko at any time too!
Solt: Even though Ryohei had plenty of devastating attack options, Akihiko's defense, debuffing abilities, and counter-punching techniques were just too tough to bear.
Peppor: Especially if we scale him fighting that monster of a beast known as; Erebus! Who I kid you not, is the size of a huge mountain! Besides surviving that huge explosion on the bridge, Akihiko and his teammates must have solid durability to even survive Erebus' attacks, and even have crazy attack power in putting down that beast to slumber. So when you think about it, Akihiko's survivability and power output outclassed Ryohei.
Solt: And while Akihiko greatly enjoys fighting, he's still able to maintain a cool head in contrast to Ryohei, who, despite having matured from his journey, still retains his intense and one-tracked mind in battle.
Peppor: Oh man! These two boxers surely possessed unparalleled power and fighting prowess! But only one has enough attrition to last and walk out victorious.
Solt: Ryohei certainly put up a worthy challenge, but Akihiko's greater experience, superior abilities, and strong conviction, prove to be the Vongola Hitman's better.
Peppor: Ryohei's life just got turned around in a split second.
Solt: The winner is Akihiko Sanada.
