These two teenage girls who use the power of everyday objects to defeat horrifying monsters come into battle, will Luz make Ai see the light, or will Luz just have to dream of winning?
Main production for this episode is back on! I've finally come to a conclusion over who I believe will win, and I feel like both should be on relatively the same playing field after Owl house season 2 ep 5. Check out the sister DBX episode to this, Neiru VS Amity
*Notes for the fight: Luz will have a infinite amount of paper glyphs and can mark any area, no matter how big as a glyph. Ai will have access to other dream weapons aswell as Leon, due to him technically not being outside help due to his nature of being a item constantly on Ai's person. Same goes for Owlbert .*
Intro[]
The idea of fitting in is something everyone at one point has struggled with. You maybe be ostracized for your appearance, being considered "weird", or the people you choose to spend time with among many things. Something we can all agree on, however is that school blows. These two hoodie wearing teenage girls have felt the effects of this first hand.
Ai Ohto, the rejected schoolgirl turned warrior of Eros and ender of nightmares
and Luz Noceda, bullied Geek turned government toppling human witch prodigy.
But when stripped away from their less than ideal school life and wrapped into schemes of giant proportions of sci-fi and fantasy, these seemingly harmless girls will step up to prove the pen (and paper I guess in luz's case) is mightier than the sword.
Luz Noceda shines like a light in DEATH BATTLE![]
(This section WILL contain spoilers for the first five episodes of the owl house season 2. Skip if you don't want any spoilers.)

Luz Noceda is a teenage girl who cant seem to fit in. She is what you call "a geeky weirdo." With a obsession the The Good Witch Azura series and a extremely hyperactive imagination, Luz's antics at her school eventually lead to her being signed up for Inside The Box summer camp, a summer camp that would erase all her imagination. Although hating this idea at first, Luz came to semi-tolerate it after realizing how much this meant to her mother. But as she was about to board to bus to the camp, a mysterious owl stole her Azura book, running into a shack near the woods. Luz proceeded to follow the owl, but when she entered the cabin, the door led to a unexpected destination. The realm of the Boiling isles, the place where all weirdness comes from. Soon after her arrival, she was taken in by Eda the owl lady and her wacky friends who live inside the sentient owl house. Luz would journey around the isles, learning magic through her glyphs, and finally the making friends she always wanted back on the human world.
Abilities and equipment:[]
Light Spell: Luz's Light glyph can summon a beam of extremely blinding light that shoots out at light speeds (timestamp 3:00), or singular smaller light spheres
Ice Spell: Luz can use the ice glyph to manipulate ice. Can be morphed into any shape, including spikes.
Plant Spell: The glyph can sprout plants of all kinds. A notable construct is the thorn vault, a large bunch of vines that launches the user forward at extreme speeds.
Fire Spell: A spell that can ignite anything it touches ablaze.
Construction Coven Power Glyph: A sticker that when applied to the skin enhances the users magic and raw physical strength to a immense degree.
Melee Weapons: Luz has a variety of melee weapons from edas stash to choose from. A notable melee weapon Luz uses is the flail-mace used in the initial fight against grom.
Owlbert: Edas trusty staff and palisman that Luz dons from time to time, grants flight aswell as a strong staff to use. Owlbert himself can gain consciousness and leave the staff, just acting as a regular owl.
Firework: Luz uses a firework in episode 1 to defeat warden wrath, causes a big explosion.
Feats[]
Can tank hits from Boscha, who in a single throw of a grudgby ball burnt through a tree like those thousand degree knife videos.
Defeated warden wrath twice who effortlessly broke through solid prison grade concrete walls. In there second encounter Luz did it quite casually.
Able to go toe-toe with Lilith.
Can outrun the greater basilisk.
With the staff should be close to Edas speed, who moved so fast she couldn't fully be seen by Luz and King, also can travel across the entirety of the boiling isles in a short amount of time.
Carried Amity all the way from the grudby field presumably to the healing office inside of school. (Weird how ship fuel provided a decent feat)
SEASON 2 SPOILERS NOW!!!![]
This section contains abilities and feats that Luz Gained in season 2
Separate Tides
Made a plant copy of the salkidamos and proceeded to beat it.
A single ice glyph can become larger than the salkidamos, who is at least the size of the ship Luz and king were on.
Can survive dangling above the boiling seas steam, which is said to instantly give third degree burns.
Escaping Expulsion
Dodged a crossbow bolt fired from principal bumps crossbow.
Fought through the entire Blight Industries presentation (items survived include pressurized abomination goop, fire, modified abominations)
(Temporarily) Defeated the Abomoton-2k.
Tanked multiple hits from the Abomoton-2k, even after the entirety of the Blight Industries Presentation.
Survived the final hit from the Abomoton-2K (Amity took the brute of the hit, still impressive)
Owl glyph combo (Timestamp 3:09): A glyph combo used by Eda, creates a object that kind of looks like snom, it consumes anything causing it to grow larger, trapping anything inside completely still.
Fought alongside her totally platonic definitely not fruity best friend Amity. Wait what do you mean they kissed in episode 5? Wait they are actually dating now? Have fun censoring that, Disney. Anyway, Amity was directly trained by Lilith and the emperors coven. Is superior to Boscha aswell as maybe willow. Willow was able to entrap the entirety of hexside in plants.
Echoes of the past:
Invisibility spell can make Luz and anything she touches invisible for as long as she can hold her breath.
Held Her own against the guardian Jean-Luc, a golem who was set to protect King. Ice spikes were able to damage his armor that survived a fall from the top of this temple (timestamp :44) to the base of the building. He can also effortlessly destroy boulders and Luz tanked hits from him.
Keeping Up a-fear-ances
With the help of Gwen, King and Hooty, defeated The owl beast and Raven beast, both of whom were able to destroy buildings and towers.
Dodged this ray of energy.
Into the Looking Glass Ruins:
Scales relative to Gus who defeated the glandus kids with glanderstones. A single attack from the glanderstone was able to create a massive pillar of stone.
A single fire glyph did this.
Ai Ohto dreams of being in DEATH BATTLE![]
Cue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyIQZTnTJMA
Ai Ohto was just your regular teenage girl attending your average public middle school in urban japan. Aside from one thing. Ai has heterochromia, a mutation in her eyes that makes her eyes different colors. Her left eye is a amber/gold color, and her left is a deep navy blue. For whatever reason, her classmates didn't like her condition, and vigorously bullied her for it. After this went on for months, one day Ai met someone who finally treated her right. This new girl, named Koito said that Ai's eyes were pretty. This simple act of kindness and human decency touched Ai. Although reluctant at first, her and Koito then became friends. Sadly, due to someone now being friends with Ai, the bullying moved onto Koito. Sadly, the bullying got too bad for Koito and she committed suicide. Completely wracked with grief over her one and only friends suicide, Ai left school and became a Hikomori (Shut in). For months Ai did nothing, just sit in her room, sleep and eat. For whatever reason, one day Ai went outside. She stumbled across a garden. Inside the garden was a house, a patio and even entire mall! One thing stood out to Ai, a vending machine. Inside it was a bunch of eggs, with words written in a strange foreign language, some numbers and a barcode. Ai bought the egg and went home to go to bed. When she awoke in the dream, she had the egg with her. It hatched revealing a girl. Obviously confused, Ai and the girl, named Kurumi guides Ai, through the dream. Ai learns that she must go into her dreams, crack the eggs and help the children that hatch from them come to terms with their deaths. That's right, the eggs are linked to the souls of girls who have committed suicide, and if Ai can help enough of them pass on, Koito will be revived. As Ai fights through waves of Seeno evils, basically just mindless enemies who chase after the egg girls, and the girls specific wonder killer (the physical representation of their trauma, given monstrous form.) She grows closer to other girls who help egg girls in order to bring a loved one back, finally making the friends she always wanted, aswell as moving on from Koitos death.
Abilities and equiment:[]
4 Color Pen: Ai's main weapon is a massive transformed pen. While it is very heavy and difficult to swing, over time Ai gained a mastery of the weapon, and single strikes and do massive amounts of damage.
The ribbon: a ribbon like weapon Ai gains access to in episode 2. Used as a long ranged melee weapon that can cut through anything like butter.
Penlights. Dual lightsaber-like blades Ai used in episode 3 and 4 used for lighter yet quicker attacks up close, providing a good variety from Ai's regular weapon.
Leon the Pomander: Ai and her friends were gifted Pomanders, pendants that when activated spawn animals, specifically reptiles. Ai was gifted Leon, a chameleon who in the human world takes the form of a pocket sized green chameleon with pink stripes. In the dream world, he is much larger, with a big crest, aswell as bomber goggles and a sail going along its back. He is used to clear out seeno evils, a single hit from the tounge can kill a seeno evil.
Rifts: When brought upon the brink of death, Ai will be teleported to the alternate universe were Koito's soul was stored. From here, with enough brute force she can create a trans-dimensional rift.
Condensed dream ray: When forming her pen weapon, Ai is covered in sparkly dream energy. This can be weaponized into massive beams of energy. Did this to the Ai's school.
Feats[]
Can survive long battles with seeno evils and wonder killers, taking major blows and still fighting back. Notable wound was a major head wound in episode 6.
Has dodged paintball fire.
Still able to fight after being blinded.
Scales to Moemoe, who was able to survive getting launched across a entire subway tunnel.
Comparable to Rika who survived this attack point blank.
Was able to create this shockwave with one of her attacks.
FIGHT![]
Location: A room, floating in the middle of the dream worlds sky
It had been a long day for Ai. She had just finished her first big school tests since returning, and she had to call off dinner with Neiru, Rika and Moemoe because she was so busy studying. Needless to say, she was worn out, and ready to go to bed. Luckily for her, she didn't buy any eggs that day so she didn't have to fight in her dreams. It seemed like she were to have a completely normal and relaxing sleep. Ai thought wrong.
Ai: Augh, where am I? This isn't the school. Oh shoot, did I end up sleeping at Neirus again?
???: No Ai, you are not in a egg dream.
Ai: Wait, if I'm not in one, then why am I hearing your voice Acca?
Acca: Me, Ura and Neiru were doing some experimenting. We uh, may have accidently linked your dream and a random human. Sorry bout that.
Ai: You what now?
???: Hey, yellow girl, where am I?
Ai: Oh, this is just a dream. Just go do dream stuff.
???: Is it ok if I train my magic with you? Whenever I have lucid dreams I like to train. Did you know that skills you hone in lucid dreams rub off in real life? Mami told me that!
Ai: Um...
Acca: Do it Ai, you should be honing your skills in your regular dreams from time to time anyway. Koito isn't going to un-stone herself.
Ai: Yea, I guess your right. Alright new girl, you ready to spar. And by the way, what is your name?
???: My name is Luz, the human witch apprentice. Now are you ready to get your butt kicked sunflower?
Ai: Heh, lets see what you got Luz. Also my name is Ai. I've heard the sunflower insult before.
Acca: On the count of three, you can start. 3,2,1. Fight.
Luz slams Owlbert into the concrete floor, creating a wall of ice spikes racing toward Ai. Ai dodges and pulls out her pen, clicking it, as a spotted blue energy starts to charge from Ai's pen.
Ai: That was a n-ICE attack, but will you be able to get around THIS?
Luz: Hehe, that was very PUNny. Y'know after this w-
Before she can finish, a massive beam of blue energy charges toward Luz, she pulls three plant glyphs out of her pocket, slamming them on the ground. It sprouts three massive vines, shielding Luz from the Dream beam. Unfortunately, the vines aren't enough. The Ray overpowers the vines, completely incinerating them.
Luz: Aw shoot.
The beam reaches Luz, creating a massive explosion, completely obliterating the young Witchling and her surroundings. When the smoke cleared, nothing but remnants of plants, melting ice and a thick cloud of fog remained.
Ai: That was a... strange little experience.
Suddenly, a large ice block is sent flying towards Ai, hitting her before she had a chance to react, instantly freezing feet in place.
Ai: What the?
Another Ice block is sent flying towards Ai. However, this time she noticed it earlier, slamming her pen into the blocks side, ripping it in half, sending Icey debris everywhere. Ai wasn't ready for another block to hit her from behind, freezing her arms together.
Luz: Haha, I can always count on a Invisibility glyph! How's that for a n-ice attack!
Luz is launched towards Ai from a thorn vault, pulling out her mace, and equipping a flame glyph onto it.
Luz: FLAME MACE, GO!
She whips the spiky fire ball towards the trapped girl, hitting her with immense force. Although breaking her from the Icey prison, a scorching hot beam of flames hits Ai, sending her flying towards the wall with even more force. After seconds of air time, Ai finally hit the wall, creating a massive dent in it, where Ai sat, slumped over.
Ai: Ah shit! You pack a serious punch.
Luz: So do you, that Laser thing was crazy strong! What type of magic is it?
Ai: Magic? I don't know what your talkin about. Speaking of magic how were you able to summon block of ice and use tree roots as whips? You don't seem to have a dream item, and I've never seen anyone do something as crazy as that with their weapon.
Luz: Yea, this whole thing has just been really, REALLY bizarre. And trust me, I know what bizarre is, just this afternoon, me and King were going to the library today an-
Acca: Less talky, more fighty. If you two really want to, I can combine your dreams after this.
Ai: Eh, ok.
Luz: Yea that seems fair. Anyway, lets get back to it!
Luz grabs a handful of Light Glyphs, tapping them, and multiple of smalls light balls form. She hurls them to Ai. Ai dodges all of them, rushing towards Luz. The Witch throws a plant glyph, creating a vine that is instantly obliterated by a powerful strike from Ai's pen. Luz was predicting that however, because she set up another plant glyph right under Ai's feet causing a thorn bush to pop up, ripping into Ai's skin and trapping her in a sphere of pain. Ai uses her pen to rip out of her prison, but the damage had already been done, she had been poked by a ton of thorns.
Ai: Heh, that's nothing, I survive stuff hundreds of times more deadly than this every few days! Or, sometimes less, I've been getting pretty spotty when it comes to buying eggs I should probably fix tha-
Ai is blindsided by a row of ice spikes, the first few landing direct hits to her waist, but in time she retaliates by slamming her pen into the spikes, not only completely obliterating them, but also sending a shockwave to Luz, sending her flying into a wall. Ai takes this opportunity to rush Luz, however Luz throws a ice spear, that Ai reflects, sending back to Luz. Luz is barley able to dodge her glyph ripping a hole in her chest like that one redhead from her favorite anime. However she isn't able to dodge a critical hit from Ai's pen, finally landing a direct hit towards its target. The hit completely destroys the rooms wall, sending Luz flying outside.
BOOM![]
Luz was shot out of the room, the already weakened walls finally giving in due to the immensely powerful strike from Ai's pen. As for Luz, she was launched out of the room due to the hit. The outside of the room was beautiful. Turns out the room they were fighting in was floating in the middle of a beautiful sky, with dozens of floating building lining the skyline. However Luz couldn't take in the view. The hit from the pen had done serious damage. This is how Amity must have felt when she got her leg broken. However, lucky for luz, Owlbert acted on his own, scooping Luz up and moving her to a building top.
Luz: Ugh, my head really hurts. You okay buddy?
She pets her owl companion.
Luz: Alrighty, we should get ready before we strike again. Owlbert, where's my knapsack?
The bird looks around in confusion.
Luz: Oh shoot! All my glyphs and other gear is in there! I only have a few on me right now... Alright, new game plan, we go under the room and use my pencil to turn it into a fire glyph, that shoul- oh Cramity, my pencil is in the knapsack! Alright, plan B, we find the knapsack and then execute plan A! Any questions?
Owlbert: Hoot, Hooty, Hoot hoot Hoot.
Luz: You make a strong point my feathered friend. We cant let Ai find us, another hit from that big hammer thing and I'm sure ill get more than a nosebleed and hazy vision. Alrighty bud, lets go!
Owlbert forms into his staff mode, as Luz hops off on, they duck below the clouds, ready to go find Luz's trusty little bag.
Ai POV:
Ai: Oh crap! Did I just kill her!?!
Acca: Nope. Probably still down there.
Ai: Oh alright, doesn't this seem to much? Shouldn't we stop fighting, I think both of us have had enough.
Acca: No, your not just going to give up if you are backed into a corner by a wonder killer. This is a training session, not a play date.
Ai: Alright, fine. Your on thin ice though.
Ai jumps out of from the whole in the wall, landing on a nearby rooftop.
Ai: Alright, lets get this over with.
Ai jumps from here roof, ping-ponging across the floating buildings, using her Pen as a platform to semi-fly. After long enough she finally landed on a roof.
Ai: Augh, this is tiring. Where can she possibly be?
Luz: Right here!
Before Ai has a chance to react, she is met with a fire glyph to the face, as Luz uses her staff to hit Ai's arm, causing her to lose grip on her pen. Luz takes this opportunity to stick a plant glyph on her arms, constricting her once more.
Luz: Hehe, now you really don't have anyway to get out of this! See ya!
Ai: Ill catch you!
Luz: Haha, good luck!
Luz flys off after saying this, knowing now she can search without any distractions.
Ai: Well, shoot. Looks like there is no way out of these dumbass vines this time.
Suddenly, as if on command, Ai could feel a pulsing near her chest. A green burst of energy came from the pendant on her neck, as Leon took form.
Ai: Leon, you know its not safe out here, remember what happened to Mannen and Panic!
Leon tilts his head downward, just to look back up at its mother using its tounge to break through the plant glyphs vines.
AI: Oh Leon, I just cant stay mad at you! Come here buddy!
She rushes to her reptilian companion, hugging him and giving him a kiss on the crest.
Ai: No but for real, don't come out again, we don't know if those things will ever appear again.
Leon nods as he lets out a speaking noise, returning to its pendant.
Ai: Now that that's out of the way, lets chase down Lu- oh shit.
Ai busts through the buildings door, rushing down into the small-two story tall concrete structures rooms, looking through what appeared to be a general store.
Ai: Maybe here? Hmm..., "Best deals for 5 dollars! Thanks for shopping at storestore, your local store!" Balloons, paper cups, OH! A ribbon, like the one Minami-chan gave me! Don't mind if I do! She grips the ribbon, it forms into a weapon just like the one she used to kill that Minami's wonder killer.
Ai: Alright Luz, I'm coming for you!
Ai slices a a hole into the wall of the building, not before placing 5$ in the cash machine, using the ribbon like spider man, grappling from building to building.
Ai swings up onto abuilding higher in the sky, perching there in hopes to find where the slippery witch was heading. Out of the corner of her eye, Ai saw something.
Ai: There you are!
She sees Luz flying on Owlbert, in response Ai flings her ribbon forward, grappling onto the staff and propelling herself to Luz.
Ai: I said id catch you!
Luz: Aw, shoot!
Ai swings her ribbon blade at Luz, who dodges the blade hitting anything vital, instead cutting into her shoulder. Luz grunts as she grabs her last ice glyph, generating a ice blade.
Luz: Owlbert, land us on a building, its time for a good olé fashioned sword duel!
The owl palisman lands both girls on a roof top. Both combatants knew now that the battle was nearing its final act. Ai swings her ribbon at Luz, but she jumps over it, pressing a plant glyph down.
Luz glylph count: 1 Light, 0 Ice, 2 Plant, 1 Fire
Luz: Thorn Vault! HIYAAAAAAAAAA!
As Luz Says this, she hurls a fire glyph at Ai, only for her to whip it so fast it completely blows the flame away.
Luz Glyph count: 1 Light, 0 Ice, 2 Plant, 0 Fire
Luz and Ai diligently swing their blades, each impact damaging the fragile items more and more. Ai whips the ribbon at Luz, but she pushes her ice blade into it, causing a blade clash, however Ai's ribbon prevails, poking a hole in the ice sword, slicing through Luz's other shoulder. However Luz throws a Plant glyph that lands below Ai's chin, it activates slamming into the Warrior of Eros's chin.
Luz Glyph count: 1 Light, 0 Ice, 1 Plant, 0 Fire
Luz: I guess you can say, a Ai for a Ai?
Ai: Your funny, cant wait to have a nice old chitchat after I kick your butt!
Ai rushes forward swinging her ribbon, to which Luz counters by pulling out her already damaged ice blade. Luz's ice blade clashes with Ai's ribbon. Both unconventional blades struggle, but Luz pulls out a light glyph, shoving it in Ai's face creating a massive flashbang, sending both girls flying backwards. The blast completely blinded Ai, but Luz has gotten used to the blinding light released whenever she uses the attack.
Luz: OWLBERT!
The staff picks Luz up, letting her get away.
Luz: Owlbert, the only place we haven't checked is the room we used to be fighting in, go there.
With a hoot, the staff ascends straight upward.
Luz: Come on, it has to be in here somewhere... Oh, there it is!
Luz rushes toward her knapsack, instantly pulling out her pen and getting to work on some new glyphs.
Ai: Where do you think your going, Lavender.
Luz: Aw shoot, I forgot you are basically Spiderman with that thing.
Ai once more swings her ribbon towards Luz, but now with plenty more glyphs she summons a wall of ice with a ice glyph, then slamming owlbert into it, sending a wall of spikes toward Ai. In response Ai swings her ribbon, barely stopping the barrage of ice spikes.
Luz: See ya!
Ai looks at Luz in confusion, but her thoughts are cut short as three fire balls come flying towards her in quick succession, to which she isn't able to dodge this time, all three hitting her directly om the chest, sending her backwards.
Ai: Damnit, where did you go!
She sees Luz flying off on Owlbert, and she once again try to latch onto the flying witch with her ribbon, however this time Luz is prepared, so she summons a large vine that snatches Ai out of the sky, slamming her into the side of a floating party store. The sheer force of the vine cracks the wall in, sending Ai into the building.
Ai: Dammit, I have to end this soon! I need to get the pen back.
Ai jumps out of the building, seeing her pen indented within the hard concrete flooring of these seemingly infinite floating city. She uses her ribbon for the last time, grappling her mighty pen, swinging toward in and picking it up.
Ai: I missed you. Alright Luz, its time for you to lose!
Luz: You underestimate the power of a pen with a fresh stash of ink!
Ai looks in confusion as Luz blitzes past her, flying in a circle, up and down and all around, with everywhere she go's, being marked by pen.
Ai: What the- what is she doing? I can barely even see her she is going so fast!
Suddenly, Ai feels a gust of wind behind her.
Luz: I said, don't underestimate the power of a good pen! Giant ice glyph, go!
Suddenly, the witch flies off, breaking the sound barrier in the process. Ai can feel a rumbling coming from beneath her now.
Ai: Giant ice what no-
Ai isn't able to finish her sentence, as the ground below her turns ice cold, creating a massive block of ice, sending her flying!
Ai: ENOUGH!
Ai hits the ice block below her with such force that it directly spits the block in half, completely obliterating both the ground below her and slicing the block in half like a thousand degree knife video.
Ai: IM DONE WITH YOU!
She jumps from the broken ice block, swinging her pen towards Luz, Luz try's to block by putting up a ice glyph, but the pen easily obliterates it, not only sending Luz flying off of owlbert but also into a building. Ai isn't done just yet, she goes flying after the witch, once again landing a critical hit to Luz's gut. Luz screams as she coughs up blood. She could feel the bones breaking but this was only the beginning. She is sent flying from the second hit, crashing into a skyscraper, exploding instantly due to the force of Luz hitting it. The unconscious and bloody body of Luz is sent flying onto the roof of a two story suburban home. Ai follows, but before she can finish Luz off, owlbert rammed into Ai with enough force to cause her to fall through the roof. Ai gets up, just to see a small owl standing over Luz's unconscious body.
Ai: Stupid bird, you think you can stop me.
Owlbert: Hooty, Hoot hoot!
The owl rushes Ai, pulling on her hair.
Ai: Ugh stop! You cant beat me!
Luz: *cough* I know, he only *has* to stall you. Owl glyph combo, go!
Luz throws one of each glyph type towards Ai, just like Eda had told her she did the night after the Blight industries presentation. Luz just hoped it worked as affectively here. The glyphs morphed in the air, forming what appeared to be a small block of ice that landed below Ai's feet.
Luz: Whelp, guess its time for me to die.
Ai: Your right about that!
Before Ai can finish the witch off, the ice block suddenly expands, consuming Ai! Ai would scream in terror, if she could. The ice thing had completely absorbed her, freezing her within its weird cocoon-like shell. Every breath Ai took was Icey, she could feel the stinging Icey sensation in her lungs, piercing her. Ai closed her eyes for what she thought would be the last time.
???: Ai-chan! Ai-chan wake up!
Ai opened her eyes, awaking in a familiar place.
Ai: The school? That voice! Koito?
Koito: Ai. I thought I lost you there!
Ai: But I did! She put me in that weird ice cocoon thing and I was all like "AHH!" but I didn't scream it was so weird!"
Koito chuckles.
Koito: Hahaha, your so funny Ai. I want to see you again and not in this strange world, in real life.
Ai: Yea, I do too.
Koito: How can you save me if you were to die?
Ai: Yea, your right. Goodbye Koito, ill see you on the flip side.
Ai turns her back before summoning her pen, rushing off the building, jumping of and swinging her pen with a incredible force, creating a massive shockwave that completely eclipses the alternate universes skyline.
Ai: HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
CCCCCCCCCRRRRRRRAAAAAAAKKK![]
She rips through the fabric of the universe, creating a massive rift that creates a hole in-between the two dimensional planes. Ai floats above the rift.
Ai: NOW IM MAD!
Luz: Oh for titans sake!
Luz barely stands up, calling owlbert to her side as two massive vines manifest behind her. Ai bends her pen backwards. Now it really was about to be the end. Ai starts flying down to Luz, but Luz pulls out her firework.
Luz: I forgot about this bad boy! Batter up!
She swings owlbert at the firework, sending it flying toward Ai. However the girl in the air try to block it, but it explodes in her face, creating a beautiful explosion of colors. However there was no red in the firework, as Ai still came barreling down at Luz she swings and Luz summons a plant glyph to counter, and it works, snaring the pen in a vine. Luz summons a ice spear, bringing it down on Ai's neck, but the warrior of eros is able to free her weapon from the grasp of the plant, barely able to block her head being swiped clean off.
Ai: Your getting more deadly now, huh?
Luz: Listen pal, I'm really tiered, todays has been a really busy day and then being put into a insane sparring match in my dreams against a girl with heterochromia wearing a drippy hoody, and the referee being a literal sentient mannequin, its safe to say id want to end it soon.
Ai: Well why was your day so busy?
Luz: Well I'm glad you asked! So there's this girl...
Luz is cut off by Ai spearing the pen side of her weapon into Luz's gut.
Luz: Ouch, no fair! I was gonna open up to you!
Ai: Hey, I never said I was gonna play fair!
Luz: Hmmm, letting your opponent open up to you in a minute of emotional vulnerability to then catch them off guard with a attack... I respect your cunning, but I also hate you for it.
Ai then swings her weapon with immense force, creating a shockwave of wind that sends Luz flying, however she uses a plant glyph as a grappling hook, keeping her from falling off the edge. She uses this opportunity to swing behind Ai, sticking a construction coven sticker to herself.
Luz: Its been a while since I've used one of these bad boys!
She punches Ai in the gut, before punching picking her up and throwing her rushing over and punching her again, this time immediately pulling out a flame glyph, scorching the sunflower on her hoodie and sending her flying even further. Luz then grabs the pen, clicking it, dissipating its form and tossing it aside.
Luz: HOHOHOHO, what you gonna do now.
Ai: IM GONNA DO THIS!
She pushes Luz aside, grabbing her pen, jumping off the side of the building, summoning her pen.
Ai: NOW, THIS IS WHERE IT ENDS! DREAM RAY!
Ai summons her dream ray once more, the massive beam of energy shooting towards Luz.
Luz: Owlbert, lets do this!
Luz quickly draws three light glyphs on the ground, as the take form, she also creates a spell circle with owlbert, shooting out her own ray of energy. The four yellow beams of light combine in a helix formation, before clashing with Ai's deep navy dream ray. As both beams continued to clash, the realization both dawned to both girls. This long fight was about to end with either one completely incinerated. There was no more coming back from the brink and creating a trans-dimensional rift to revive yourself and get out of a pickle, there was no riding off on owlbert. Here, it would finally end.
Ai: Koito, Mama, Neiru, Rika, Moemoe, Leon, all of the lost girls, I WONT LET THEM DOWN! I WILL WIN, LAVENDER!
Luz: Si pasa algo, solo sé que te amo mamá, Eda, Rey, Amity, a todos mis amigos, ¡mi familia! ¡Yo ganaré por todos ustedes!
Luz then throws two small light glyphs at Ai, when it reaches the yellow-clad girl, it explodes, blinding her. The second ball of energy flys straight into her mouth, exploding inside of her, burning her insides, aswell as making Ai's mouth and eyes leak out condensed light energy. Ai screams, as her beam runs out, and her pen takes form.
Ai: No...
Luz's quad helix light beam reaches Ai, and just as she predicted, she wasn't able to dodge it. This really was the end. The beam hits Ai, slowly disintegrating her as she could feel the glyph inside her fry her innards, as the light beam on the outside slowly obliterating her body. She could feel her body slowly dissipating, both on the inside and out. First a numbing in her right leg, then a pain in her stomach. Eventually, her eyes would also go, as the combined forces of the ball of energy inside of her and the beam of it on the out completely frying the once beautiful Navy and Gold eyes. As she could feel more and more of her body disappearing, She lets out one last scream that is drowned out by the sound of the massive beam of light, as the beam completely incinerated both her and her pen, leaving nothing but Leons cracked pompander behind.
KO!
Luz: OH MY GOD DID I JUST KILL HER!
Acca: This was certainly the unexpected outcome, but you and the subject have both proven extremely unpredictable. Luckily for you, Ai, nor any of the other girls, bought a egg today, so no damage has actually been given to her waking form.
Luz: DID I JUST MURDER SOMEONE OR NOT!
Acca: No, you did not just actually murder someone. And before you ask any damage you've taken will not affect you in the waking world, just the guilt that you disintegrated someone with a massive beam of light.
Luz: Oh thank god.
Acca: And by the way, before I send you back to whatever dream you were having prior to this mess, would you like to go into Ai's dream tonight? You were talking about that before.
Luz: No, I've had enough of combined dreams for a lifetime. Write it down for another time, she seemed nice, aside from the whole swinging around a big hammer-pen thingy.
Acca: Alright, good to go. Have a nice day Luz, Oh and by any chance dont bring up anything about a "Other dimensional humanoid species theory" to anyone named Amity, okay?
Luz: Wait wha-
Then Luz awoke in her makeshift bed, with King and Owlbert snuggled right beside her.
Luz: EDA, I JUST HAD THE WEIRDEST DREAM EVER!
Verdict[]
Cue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=habQUBdSYI4
Welp, that's one... Interesting way to make friends. I know at first it seemed like Ai definitely took home the win, (I thought that too) but hey, sometimes research is really surprising. And this is by no means a washout, this was actually a surprisingly close, aswell as complex matchup. Now lets get into why. Note: Going forward I will be separating the breakdown into sections, and then comparing stats at the end
Strength:[]
Luz isn't really the best when it comes to outright strength and destructive power. Sure her fire glyph can easily rip holes into giant mounds of thorns and can also melt trees. Note: As calculated by VS battle wiki, the fire glyph should be small-large building level due to being comparable to Amity's fire blast as which is consistent with Gus's fire glyph destroying that thorn compound. While VS battle wiki isn't always reliable , it is a good baseline to work off of. She also has a construction coven sticker, which tiny nose was able to effortlessly blow down metal walls and throw bricks that are equal to the mass of a small home, also being consistent with Building level + Luz. Ai however, completely shone when it came to outright physical strength. A single strike of her pen was able to do this, Note: The full effect of the attack wasn't shown here, but the crater and shockwave did get slightly larger which outclasses everything Luz can do. Speaking of completely outclassing Luz, the condensed dream ray completely obliterated Ai's school, which should have anywhere from 5-15 stories in the dream world based on this picture and many other shots from outside the dream school. Now, I hear you saying "But what about Ai creating a shockwave that eclipsed the entire alternate universe while creating her rift!" Sadly for Ai, the whole rift thing is not what it seems. She can only activate rifts in Koitos alternate universe, that she can only reach upon almost dying. And to make it even worse for everyone's favorite yellow hoodie wearing girl,(unless you've watched Coraline or played little nightmares) The damage inflicted in the AU while making the rift doesn't actually harm anyone in the real dream world, making the Rift ability a more confusing and trippy totem of undying. So while Ai does take the win in strength, a assumingly incredible feat that could have clinched her the win literally means nothing.
Durability:[]
This is easily one of the most important categories and a main reason why Luz won. Starting with Ai, she has survived multiple encounters with Wonder Killers who can easily rip through stone walls, yet she still tanks hits from them and walks them off with minimal damage. However she does have a clear limit. In episode six, she was almost killed after a short brawl with a wonder killer, however she still did live, even with a massive head wound. The feats we see this wonder killer do aren't very impressive, so we will highball it to the average wonder killer in the series, large wall-small building level. Due to this, Ai has a surprisingly low durability. Now, something that could change this is how Ai is comparable to Rika, who tanked this attack. Note: This is probably large building-city block level of attack when comparing to the nearby lighthouse. However during this point in time, there is no reason why Ai should scale to Rika. For one, Mannen, Rikas Pomander jumped in front of the attack, blocking Rika from most of the damage. Also, at this point Ai and Rika had only fought together once, and that one time was early on in the series, when both were weaker. The biggest point that separate's Ai from Rika is that Rika has done MUCH more fights then Ai. We know she buys a ton of eggs every time she visits, and because she "saved" Chiemi almost a whole 3 episodes before Ai, and because Ai usually only buys 1 egg per visit, Rika should be not only more experienced, but stronger aswell. So sadly another potentially outcome turning feat is just nothing impressive. As for Luz, she was perfectly durable enough to survive getting pushed around by Ai's pen. Luz is already easily on Ai's level due to beating warden wrath twice, who can easily break down prison grade walls and pillars. Hell, in their second fight, Luz absolutely handed it to this guy. And as if it couldn't get any better for Luz, in Escaping Expulsion she was not only extremely weakened by the Blight industries presentation, she tanked a hit on par, if not greater then the greatest feat we've seen out of Ai's pen, Note: While Amity did shield Luz from the hit, its safe to assume that the damage she has already taken from earlier definitely equates, if not surpasses what the hit would be like if Amity wasn't their to shield Luz and then got up immediately after, and just walked off stage. In conclusion, Luz is way more durable then you would think, and can definitely tank a ton of Ai's hits, while Ai once more had a super powerful feat that wasn't what it seemed.
Speed:[]
This one is quite straight forward, Eda's staff can be tracked going faster then the eye can see, making her near 38146 mph, while Ai can dodge a attack similar to paintball fire which is 190 mph, FAR slower then Luz at her best. Even off the staff, can keep up with the golden guard who is said to be stronger then Lillith, who should also be faster then eyesight. So yea, Luz is MUCH faster. Note: While Rika did dodge a laser, we have already established that we cant scale her and Ai on the same playing field.
Training/Skill:[]
This is also very straightforward, Ai has received no formal training but may have more fights under her belt. However, Luz's actual training, strategy and combat skill aswell as her being much smarter easily takes this category aswell. Note: Also, due to Ai barely even getting a proper education, she should be even further below Luz in this feild.
Versatility:[]
This is what really sealed Ai's coffin. While Ai does have a few options, her pen for up close heavy attacks, her ribbon for grappling things and for long range meele and her penlights for up close faster attacks, Note: The penlights weren't used in the fight because I couldn't fit them in without it being forced that's about it. Leon could be used but he is exclusively used for fighting Seeno evils and even so, we've already established how durable Luz is, so a tounge hitting Luz with the same force that can barely stop a horde a cannon fodder who cant even open doors right wont do much. She also has rifts and dream ray, but both could only be used in very specific circumstances. As for Luz... I mean come on, she has literally infinite combo potential with glyphs. The enemy is firing a massive beam of energy at you? Turn invisible and run away. Opponent chasing you down? snare them in a plant bear trap! You get my point, Luz obviously wins here.
Overall/Conclusion:[]
Strength:
Luz <<Ai
Durability:
Luz > Ai
Speed:
Luz >>> Ai
Training/Skill:
Luz >>> Ai
Versatility:
Luz >>> Ai
In conclusion, while Ai does have a decent lead in strength, most of her impressive feats were not as they seemed, causing the win to fall onto Luz who in the end just had to use her superior speed and durability to outlast her opponent, while chipping in decent amounts of damage, until Ai finally bit the big one. It Looks like Ai just had No-ceda way of winning. The winner is: Luz Noceda.
Fight OST[]
The OST for this fight would be called "Dreaming Glyphs". The Name comes from Luz's glyphs and the fact that Ai fights in her dreams. The cover art depicts Ai's pen about to transform, as a light beam is forming behind it. The four different glyph symbols are seen behind both of them. The music of the track would mainly be in the synthy style of the Owl houses opening, with bits sounding like some songs that play during the episodes themselves, lighter on the instruments and with longer notes and exaderated sound effects. A big part of the song would be how it uses WEP style of music. Its hard to actually word what it sounds like because just like the show it comes from, the soundtrack is very weird and unique. Songs it could directly reference can be: Owl house intro, outro and grom dance. For WEP, Brand New World and Friendship can be referenced. Sudachi no uta can also be referenced during a slower section. And Life is cider would be extremely out of place, we all know you can only listen to that song after being deeply traumatized!
Connections[]
Both Ai and Luz are teenage girls, not fitting in at their schools, for ai to the point she was bullied. However they both found something that kept them happy in that time (Luz drowned herself in Azura books and other geeky stuff, while Ai met Koito.) After a while of happiness they both had these things taken from them (Luz being sent away to the summer camp and koito commiting suicide) This led to both girls discovering different worlds, (Luz finding the boiling isles and Ai finding the accas house and the arcade [technically not a separate world but you get my point]) This leads to them adapting to these environments, making new friends and finally finding a happy normalcy for both of them, although they still have problems, both smaller and more personal aswell as on a larger scale to confront. So yea, this fight is way more thematic then most episodes, and WAY better then both fights I’ve seen requested for both of them Anne vs Luz and Ai vs OMORI. Anne vs Luz is just geeky teenage girls who got isekai’d to fantasy worlds and are the protagonists of Disney cartoons while Ai vs OMORI is just depressed teenagers from extremely disturbing franchises with a slightly similar vibe that fight in dreams. There is still a bunch of other things going for this fight, like how they both fight with superpowered versions of every day objects (Ai’s pen hammer thing and Luz’s glyphs just being pieces of paper) and their relationships with their parents. But I’m sure you get the point, this fight is super good.
Trivia[]
•This is Pachylord21's second completed death battle, and the 2/12 of season 1.
•Wonder egg priority and The owl house are both some of Pachys favorite Anime and Cartoon.
• The reason I gave Luz her firework and construction coven sticker was because I felt that despite only having the firework for one episode and never using the sticker on screen, they were part of her arsenal at one point, so I included them. Same logic applies to all of Ai's other weapons, she needed them the most though, without the ribbon and penlights the already massive lead in versatility Luz had would have just grown even bigger.
• What Luz said in Spanish during the final beam clash translates to "If something happens, I just know that I love you Mom, Eda, King, Amity, all my friends, my family! I'll win, for all of you!"
• The original ending for the fight, back when I thought Ai would win (early June-ish. Damn this took a long time) would see Luz, apon getting her glyphs back would enter a fight with Ai back in the original room, with a scuffle that would escalate when Luz equips the Construction sticker, and her and Ai have a quick fista-cuffs. Eventually, Ai would land a direct hit to Luz's side, activating her rift and ripping Luz in two. A even earlier draft, back sometime in April would be completely different, with the fight never even going outside the room. The original plot was much different aswell. Instead of one of Neirus experiments gone wrong, Acca and Ura-acca brought Luz into Ai's dream to help train Ai due to her constantly getting her ass handed to her in basically every fight against a wonder killer. The original death would be much different to. Ai would send a ice glyph back at Luz, freezing her in place. She then would uppercut Luz into the ceiling with her pen, the fight ending with Ai complaining that she just had to murder someone. Needless to say, I am much more happy with what I actually ended up going with.
• The reason I scrapped Wiz and Boomstick and just replaced them with a neutral narrator was because I felt they were to hard to write and were overall just a annoyance.
• This is Pachys preferred MU for both. (Akko VS Luz is also really good tho)
• If this were a real DEATH BATTLE, it would be animated in handrawn style.
