History[]

Interstellar travellers from beyond the stars, the twins Aether and Lumine crash landed in their space ship on the planet of Teyvat. While Aether stayed asleep within his stasis pod, Lumine woke up missing most of her memories, and unable to wake her brother, started to travel this new world by herself, starting with their impact point: Nod-Krai.

In truth, she and her brother had been summoned to Teyvat as Outlanders by the independent nation of Khaenri'ah, seeking Descenders who could challenge the fate of the world itself. As Lumine eventually made her way to the underground civilisation, she was cherished as their saviour, and became the Princess of Khaenri'ah, beloved by the nation and all its people.

But Khaenri'ah was a nation that spurned the Heavenly Principles which first conquered this planet for humanity from the First Dragon Sovereigns. With no Archon, and a heretical rule under the Vinster King, they continually sought to push the bounds of what could be tolerated, and eventually, with their delves into the Abyss and the ruin it could bring to all of Teyvat, the Heavenly Principles and their Four Shining Shades in Celestia, the Kingdom of the Gods, needed to destroy Khaenri'ah entirely to preserve the rest of the world. An utter and thorough destruction which would later come to be known as the Cataclysm.

Lumine, having recovered her memories, was torn between saving her new home and returning to Aether to escape the planet, and after interference from the Shade of Time, Istaroth, she chose to return to Aether and wake him up. Trying to escape Teyvat, the twins were stopped by Asmoday, the Shade of Space, who banished Lumine and sealed Aether and his powers away for five hundred years. Eventually, he woke up in the land of Mondstadt, trying to get his bearings in a world he knew nothing about.

Thankfully, he would happen to fish up Paimon, a strange fairy-like being who would become his guide to the world of Teyvat, teaching him the language, helping him get around, and would become his best friend in the entire world. Saving her from drowning, the two would become inseparable partners, and set off to try and find Lumine, journeying across all of Teyvat as the truth of this world gradually became clear to him.

Though Aether's kindhearted nature saw him help out and befriend people across the world, and even beyond. His first friend was Amber, Outrider of the Knights of Favonius, who protect the nation of Mondstadt, the Land of Freedom. Protecting them from the dragon Dvalin, and eventually saving him from Abyssal corruption alongside Jean, Diluc and Mondstadt's God, the Anemo Archon Venti, Aether would become an honourary Knight of Favonius, one of many titles to come. Such as the Saviour of Liyue, when he travelled to the Land of Contracts next and was embroiled alongside the battle-loving warrior Tartaglia in the faked death of Rex Lapis, the Geo Archon. In actuality, he would befriend Zhongli, who was just fine, and sought to see humanity thrive under their own rule. Fighting to defend the nation from an old god risen from the sea, Aether became a trusted ally of the nation and its people.

Afterward, it was to Inazuma, the Land of Eternity. With its people engaged in a civil war due to the Vision Hunt Decree enacted by the Electro Archon, Raiden Ei, Aether needed to break through to the hurting woman behind the ruling puppet, shaking her unshakeable will to bring peace to the land. After fighting her to a draw, Aether showed Ei the strength of her people, and that the eternity she sought could never truly come to pass, but even as time moves forward, not everything has to change so drastically. As she sought to become a better ruler for her people, Aether became Ei's confidant, and one of the few people she trusts completely. At the same time, the Fatui, an organisation from Snezhnaya operating under the orders of the Cryo Archon, which had been making moves in each of the nations prior, were starting to make headway in the next nation Aether was to visit.

Sumeru, the Land of Wisdom, was controlled by the Akademia. They espoused prejudice against the people of the desert, and valued only the gifts of their prior Archon. To the extent that they imprisoned their God, the Dendro Archon Nahida, and sought the Fatui's help in creating a god of their own to control. A land in which people suffered a condition known as Eleazar due to information from the Abyss infecting the Irminsul Tree which spread its roots throughout all of Teyvat, Aether became Nahida's first ever friend, and saved her from captivity during his quest in Sumeru. Assembling a team from all parts of the nation; rainforest and desert, they fought to break the Akademia's control over the nation, restore equality between all people, and fell the false god they were building, piloted by the Sixth Fatui Harbinger, Scaramouche. The puppet creation and son of Raiden Ei.

As Nahida took back her position leading Sumeru, she ushered in a new age of prosperity for all people, and helped to rehabilitate Scaramouche with the discovery that much of the tragedy in his life had been masterminded by the Second Fatui Harbinger, Il Dottore. After wiping himself from the history of the world and returning as the Wanderer, he became a close friend of Aether's, who Nahida had learned was classified by the Fatui as the Fourth Descender. Although Lumine was Khaenri'ah's Princess, it was Aether who held the power to change the world, and he already had been in every nation and land he came across. Additionally, Aether had found Lumine with the help of Dainsleif, one of the few surviving people of Khaenri'ah, but in the five hundred years apart, she became the leader of the Abyss Order, which terrorised and threatened all of Teyvat. She and Aether were now on opposite sides of a war against Celestia and the gods, but even still, that sibling bond remained.

Afterward, Aether took off to Fontaine, the Land of Justice. In a prophecy which detailed that the land would be drowned by water, the Hydro Archon Focalors had split her divinity from her humanity, instilling Furina to act as Fontaine's Archon in an unending play for five hundred years. Never to slip up, or her people could be doomed. Alongside Fontaine's Chief Justice, the Hydro Dragon Sovereign, Neuvillette, the leader of the Spina de Rosula, Navia, the Eleventh Fatui Harbinger Tartaglia, and the Fourth Fatui Harbinger Arlecchino, as well as her children, Aether would bring the hidden truths of Fontaine to light in court to avert the prophecy and save Fontaine. Defeating the All-Devouring Narwhal, which would have brought ruin to the land, it would be Aether's first, but not last encounter with Skirk, Tartaglia's master and pupil of one of the Five Sinners of Khaenri'ah.

After Fontaine was saved, Neuvillette's Authority was restored, the sin of the people of Fontaine was forgiven and Furina could finally live a normal life, Aether was next off to Natlan, the Land of War. Under constant threat from the Abyss, Natlan is a nation of heroes who have fought to save their people, and the Pyro Archon Mavuika led her people with a plan to drive back the Abyss once and for all. With the First Fatui Harbinger, Il Capitano, a war hero from Khaenri'ah who had seen the ruin that the Abyss could bring, Natlan had dedicated allies who would fight to the last to defend it, and Aether, Mavuika and Il Capitano would go down in history as the three greatest heroes of Natlan's history. Although the Captain gave his life to the Shade of Death, Ronova, in a bargain to save Mavuika's, he would finally find eternal peace, and his legacy would be one of hope for the Natlanese and Fatui alike.

Now, several factions began to converge upon Nod-Krai, the land where Aether had first landed in Teyvat. The Fatui, the Knights of Favonius, Mondstadt's Hexenzirkel Witches, the Abyss, the Lightkeepers and the Frostmoon Scions all had their own goals, as the Song of the Welkin Moon plays out, and the New Moon rises. As for how the rest of Aether's story will play out in Nod-Krai, to Snezhnaya, Khaenri'ah and Celestia beyond, time will only tell. But no matter how the tale ends, the bonds he has made, the people he has saved, and impact he has left on the world of Teyvat will never be forgotten.
