Description[]
Record of Ragnarok vs. Fate/Stay Night! Two of the oldest humans known to man, chosen by Gods and eventually rebelled against them. Which one has the power to truly represent Humanity in this fight?
Interlude[]
Wiz: Humanity is always a tricky subject, especially in the era when gods roamed the planet. Those early days of humanity oftentimes found themselves blessed with strength by the gods themselves.
Boomstick: But sometimes, ya just gotta stick it to your god parents and say you aren’t listening to them anymore!
Wiz: Adam, the very first human.
Boomstick: And Gilgamesh, the first hero king in recorded history.
Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills, to find out who would win…a Death Battle.
Adam[]
(Baki 2018 - Man With the Name Kaoru Hanayama)
Wiz: Ragnarok. In the ancient Norse legends, this signified the end of times for the Aesir. Many gods dying at the hands of the great beasts in Nordic mythology.
Boomstick: But in THIS world, it’s a badass tournament between gods and humans, fighting for the right of humanity to live!
Wiz: The “Ragnarok Clause” in the Valhalla Constitution reads that the gods will engage in a thirteen vs. thirteen tournament to decide the fate of humanity. If the humans lose, well…I shouldn’t have to tell you what will happen.
Boomstick: And that’s where our boy Adam comes in! Human Number 00000000001; father of all mankind. Second combatant in this tournament, facing the Granddaddy of the Cosmos, Zeus himself!
Wiz: Adam himself was blessed by God as the first human, before he also became the progenitor of the “original sin”.
Boomstick: If you didn’t pay attention in Sunday school, (don’t worry, I didn’t either!), Adam and Eve ate the fruit that they weren’t supposed to be, leading them to be banished from the Garden of Eden. Though things…didn’t exactly happen the same way here. Rather than being tempted by a serpent, Eve was, uh…well, let’s just say the serpent god wanted to do some not-so-great things to her.
Wiz: Angry at his…lack of success, the serpent god took a bite out of one of the forbidden apples and pinned the blame on Eve.
Boomstick: Though how anyone could think it was her was it clearly had f***ing SNAKE TEETH MARKS is beyond me.
Wiz: Adam, refusing to let his wife be banished alone, walked into the court room with a basket of the same forbidden apples. Taking a bite out of each one and then spitting them out. Such flagrant disregard and embracing of the woman he could not have ended up angering the serpent god, and-
(Record of Ragnarok - KAMIGAMI - Maximum the Hormone)
Boomstick: And then Adam f***ing slaughtered the guy! Good riddance I say.
Wiz: Though Adam primarily uses his fists as his weapons, that isn’t to say he fights weaponless. In order to even harm the high tier gods in Ragnarok, the Valkryie Brunhilde concocted a plan. With her and the other Valkyrie assimilating into the humans’ souls, they can create weapons known as the Volund. Weapons that can hurt, and kill, gods.
Boomstick: And Adam’s Volund is an iron knuckle duster! Who would’ve thought the daddy of everyone knew how to throw hands?
Wiz: Indeed, Adam is primarily a fighter that excels at hand to hand combat. Being able to throw punches on par, if not stronger, with deities that should theoretically out class an average human is par the course for Adam’s skillset.
Boomstick: Making the GDOC bleed and twist his head around like bop-it is a hell of a feat just in and of itself as well. Zeus was able to defeat his father, the personification of time itself! He also claims to have been apart of the Big Bang, simply calling it “a thrill”. And that’s not even talking about Zeus’ Adamas form, which is said to be able to destroy Heaven itself!
Wiz: However, the reason why Adam can go toe to toe so easily with gods, forcing Zeus into his ultimate form without even breaking a sweat, is because of how he was created to be a copy of the gods themselves. Any attack his eyes see, he can perfectly replicate: an ability known as The Eyes of the Lord.
Boomstick: Consider it a souped up Sharingan, if you want! The Eyes of the Lord not only allows Adam to throw back what’s sent at him, but it essentially allows him to also dodge attacks that should strike just a little bit slower than a microsecond!
Wiz: And that’s lowballing Adam, really. As mentioned before, Zeus couldn’t even land a single hit onto Adam before turning into his terrifying Adamas form. And that includes base form Zeus’ ultimate attack. One that he stole from his father after being hit by it and breaking his jaw: a fist that is said to surpass time itself.
Boomstick: While this could just be an exaggeration, based on what Ares had said in regard to that attack, the exchange of said attack between Adam and Zeus was said to have happened in a literal instant. Not to mention, Adam’s reaction speed was so fast that his Eyes of the Lord were able to copy and counteract an attack like that!...Wiz, is this the power of fatherhood?
Wiz: *ahem* However, that is not to say Adam has zero weaknesses. Despite his immense physical prowess, he is a combatant that can only fight hand to hand in the end. Any ranged combat could potentially put Adam on the backfoot. Especially considering The Eyes of the Lord do have their limits. Based on the information shown, while Adam can copy some physical alterations, such as when he changed his hands into claws when killing the serpent god, we have no reason to believe he could copy actual weapons or anything that is not part of a person’s body.
Boomstick: And speaking of the Eyes of the Lord, they have a way to backfire on Adam. While extremely powerful in their own right, they can overheat if used too much. As seen in Adam’s fight with Zeus, once Zeus went all…skinny and skeleton-y, Zeus’s blows actually started to land just due to the sheer number of them that came out.
Wiz: And it’s precisely because of the sheer volume of attacks that proved one key weakness of his copy ability: namely, that overheating can cause Adam to go blind and prevent him from using it anymore.
Boomstick: On the plus side, he won’t be able to see how his kids have disappointed him over the years!
Wiz: Despite being human, Adam boasts godlike powers and strength that sometimes even gods themselves struggle with. And that’s even without the power of the Volund at his side. It’s safe to say that whoever Adam happens to fight, he won’t stop until his children are safe from harm.
Gilgamesh[]
(FGO Demonic Front Babylonia - The King Who Reigns)
Boomstick: In ancient Babylonia, there’s a ton of myths and legends! But the most famous of them all would be history’s first hero: Gilgamesh!
Wiz: Gilgamesh went on many adventures with his dearest friend Enkidu, but after Enkidu’s death, Gilgamesh went on a quest for immortality that ended up in failure. Reflecting on his own arrogance and hubris, Gilgamesh returned to Uruk to become the great hero-king that was he was known for.
Boomstick: Oooooooooof course that wise and just king isn’t who we’re going to be talking about today! Servants are essentially familiars that are summoned to fight against in each other in a seven-person battle royale!
Wiz: Controlled by Mages, these Servants fight to the death for access to the Holy Grail. An object so teeming with magical energy that it is said to grant the victor’s wish, whatever it may be.
Boomstick: Gil here is a frequent participant in these Holy Grail Wars. Being apart of both the fourth and fifth, the one in America, and one that takes place on the goddamn moon! And in each one he becomes more powerful than the last!
Wiz: Gilgamesh is a very popular Servant to be summoned, and for good reason. As history’s oldest hero, Gilgamesh had untold amounts of weapons locked up in his treasury. Which he can access at any point through his Noble Phantasm: The Gates of Babylon. A treasury which is said to be so large and vast, that even Gilgamesh himself doesn’t know all of what it is inside…though this could just be Gilgamesh’s arrogance speaking.
Boomstick: While Gil doesn’t have the skill to actually use all the Noble Phantasms that are inside of his treasury, they sure make sick projectile weapons that he can fire off at will from the golden piss portals that summon items from his treasury!
Wiz: That is not to say that Gilgamesh doesn’t have his favorites from his treasury, of course. One of which would be his dear Enkidu. Silver chains named after his closest friend, and they’re also regarded as his most closely guarded secret.
Boomstick: Those chains of his obviously can be used to bind and restrain anyone he wants, but it also has another special property. Depending on how “Divine” a person is considered to be, the stronger the chain’s hold on them is!
Wiz: Take Heracles, for example. Being an individual who was born to a god, in this case Zeus, Heracles possesses a naturally high Divinity ranking. With Enkidu being said to be a bigger nuisance for the Servant than Saber’s Excalibur was.
Boomstick: Granted, that chain isn’t a perfect defense against divine beings, or against regular people. While it can very easily restrain someone with not a lot of physical strength like Shirou, even the chains themselves have a limit even against high rank divine beings. After all, Heracles shattered the damn things through sheer force of will alone! Granted, Gilgamesh severely pissed off the Not-So-Jolly Grey Giant, but the point still stands.
(Fate/Stay Night - The Golden King)
Wiz: Of course, Gilgamesh wouldn’t be the apex of Servants if that was the only trick up his sleeve. While Enkidu is his most valued treasure, he has one more that he also keeps secret. The Sword of Rupture, Ea. An Anti-World Rank Noble Phantasm that was used in creating the world itself; or in the case of whenever Gilgamesh uses it, unmaking creation.
Boomstick: Of course, getting him to pull out the damn thing is a challenge in and of itself. When we say it’s one of his most prized Noble Phantasms in his treasury, we mean that Gil generally refuses to actually pull it out unless he deems his opponent “worthy”. If he does pull it out, however, there’s a pretty solid chance that you’re just completely boned!
Wiz: And all this is just talking about Gilgamesh’s arsenal. While it took the combined efforts of multiple different people, Gilgamesh himself was able to take on the goddess of life, Tiamat. And at full power, he can move at speeds faster than light. As evidenced by when he was banished to conceptual space by Kiara Sesshouin and returned shortly after. A feat that involved him traveling fifteen-hundred light years in only a few moments.
Boomstick: Not to mention that during the Moon Cell Holy Grail War, Gilgamesh managed to tank attacks from incredibly powerful opponents! Take BB for example, who was able to swallow the entire Moon Cell, which is said to host an infinite possibility of parallel universes!
Wiz: Kiara Sesshouin as well brings another level of durability for Gilgamesh into account. Not only did she wrest control of the Moon Cell from BB, in addition to all the power that came with it, but also her Noble Phantasm it, well, uh…
Boomstick: SHE F***S THE EARTH! LITERALLY!
Wiz:…yes, that. Though, more specifically, she does, er, that and then melts her target with all the desires of humanity.
Boomstick: Hell of a way to go, in my opinion.
Wiz: Of course, all of this is dependent on Gilgamesh actually, well, going all out on his opponent. Gilgamesh is a very arrogant individual, and typically refuses to go full power against anyone he deems to be lesser.
Boomstick: Yeah, again, when it comes to Ea, he values that golden traffic cone so much that he basically refuses to pull it out against anyone. The few notable examples being Iskandar and of course his dearest friend Enkidu.
Wiz: That arrogance has led to him suffering a few defeats in his time. Such as when he was fighting Shirou Emiya, whose Reality Marble allowed him to infinitely copy whatever Noble Phantasms were thrown from the Gates of Babylon. Refusing to pull out Ea until the very last second gave Shirou the chance he needed to cut Gilgamesh’s arm off, preventing him from using it in the first place.
Boomstick: The fact that he’s completely unskilled with the rest of the weapons in his treasury is also a pretty big detriment for Gil as well. If someone can find a way to counter Gilgamesh’s Gates of Babylon, Gilgamesh is completely and totally screwed until he busts out the big guns!
Wiz: Regardless, Gilgamesh has proven himself to have earned the title of “World’s Oldest Hero”, and a slayer of gods. A terrifying combatant only beset by his own pride and arrogance, but one who still manages to come out victorious when he’s willing to be serious.
DEATH BATTLE![]
“He was given life, but also gave birth to the original sin! In all of history, the man infinitely despised by the gods…if there’s anyone that can stick it to the gods, it’d have to be him!! The father of humanity!”
The sound of Heimdallr’s voice carried throughout the entire arena of Ragnarok. The slender, naked (aside from a single leaf covering his crotch) man taking a bite out of the apple he had appeared with. The gods in the crowd surprised by the appearance of this man of all people.
“His name is…Adam!!”
(Baki 2018 - Man With the Name Kaoru Hanayama)
Adam quickly spat out the remains of the apple he had just bitten into, reacting with disgust at the taste of it.
“So sour…” He muttered to himself, as the whispers of the gods’ reactions began to fill the arena. Surprised at the man’s slender build and almost adorable face, considering him to be much less impressive than the opponent that had just been shown.
“Facing the origin of humanity himself…” Heimdallr continued, the dwarf-like god’s voice silencing any of the gods protests and introducing Adam’s combatant. “And following on from the strongest Norse god in battle one…we’ve got the strongest god in all of India making his grand-!”
“Is this some sort of joke?” A voice from the crowd interrupted Heimdallr’s speech; though it was not from the side that Heimdallr would expect an interruption from. Rather than from the seats of the gods, the haughty, disbelieving voice seemed to be coming from the humans’ seating area.
“Truly, is this the best the Valkyrie could come up with?” The voice laughed as attention was drawn to a figure with spiky, blonde hair, clad in golden armor. Sitting in his seat with one leg crossed over the other. “Some low-rate mongrel such as him? If this is the best humanity has to offer, then perhaps we deserve to lose.”
The man stood up; his face being recognizable to every human and god in the arena now that they had a good look at him. Gilgamesh, humanity’s first hero and one of history’s first recorded challenger of the divine. Whispers had begun to once again fill the arena, questions about Gilgamesh’s odd exclusion in this particular tournament. Why wouldn’t someone like him be apart of this?
The human side of the crowd began to agree, much to the shock of the purple-haired Göll, one of the Valkyrie watching in the upper stands. The crowd was demanding Gilgamesh fight in Adam’s stead; after all, what could this twig do against someone like Shiva?
“B-B-Brunhilde…? Maybe we should let Gilgamesh fight instead…” Göll stammered out, though Brunhilde offered no response. The eldest of the Valkyrie merely staring at the two men who faced each other down. A cocky smirk coming across Gilgamesh’s face, while Adam offered no reaction.
“Oh? Sounds like humanity wishes for me to be their savior. I mean, who can blame them, really. You should step aside, mongrel.” Gilgamesh declared towards Adam as he stepped out of the stands, gently floating down to the arena itself. “Or would you perhaps I splatter you across the stone and truly prove that you’re inferior?”
Still, Adam offered very little reaction. Putting his hand to his neck and cracking it to the side. A knuckle duster suddenly appearing on his right hand, much to his own surprise. Gilgamesh merely cocked an eyebrow at this sudden appearance of a weapon, but paid it otherwise no mind.
“This is a combat tournament, right?” Adam finally spoke, his voice somehow both monotone yet comforting at the same time. “Why don’t we fight for it?”
The suggestion amused Gilgamesh, who let out a hearty laugh at the mere suggestion.
“Such confidence! Well, I hardly think what’s about to occur would be considered a ‘fight’, but I welcome your challenge either way, mongrel.” Gilgamesh sneered as a few golden portals appeared behind him, ready to face Adam’s challenge head on.
“W-WAIT!!” However, Heimdallr’s voice interrupted their would-be fight. As all eyes suddenly went towards the dwarven god. “Z-Zeus-sama! Is this allowed?”
Heimdallr’s voice trailed upwards, as his eyes went to the god of the heavens himself, who was seated near the very top of the arena. The shriveled, bearded old god stroking his beard as he was lost in thought. The old god silent for a bit, before…
“Sure, why not!”
The crowd was also silent at Zeus’ declaration, all eyes at the two combatants who had been given the go ahead to fight to the death.
“Well, um…” Heimdallr cleared his throat before beginning to yell into his megahorn once again. “Looks like we have a warmup round, folks! Adam, the original human! And Gilgamesh, the original hero king and godslayer! Get ready for a fight for the right to defend humanity! Are you ready combatants…?!”
FIGHT!
(Brandon Yates – Waking the Demon)
Immediately, a barrage of weapons fired from Gilgamesh’s golden portals. His Gates of Babylon firing five different Noble Phantasms from his treasury, a smug smile on his face as he expected each one to skewer the man in front of him. But as Adam’s eyes flashed red, no blood was spilt from his body. Adam’s body effortlessly contorting and dodging each weapon that was thrown at him, with such precision and lack of effort that it was almost like his body wasn’t moving on its own.
“Oho…interesting. You’re faster than I gave you credit for, mongrel. But…” With a snap of his fingers, more golden portals appeared behind him. This time at least twenty or more, each containing a weapon that would rip any normal human to shreds as they fired. But just as the last attempt, Adam barely made any attempt to move. His eyes flashing red yet again as he effortlessly dodged them one by one, the sheer volume of attacks making no difference to him.
“Playing the defensive will get you nowhere!” Gilgamesh shouted as the rain of weapons continued, before Adam spoke once again. His tone not changing in the slightest from the last time he spoke.
“Ah, you’re right. My bad.” As the next few weapons rained down, rather than dodge them, Adam instead managed to grab two blades out of the air, swiftly dodging out of the way of the ones the followed up, before launching them back towards Gilgamesh at the exact same velocity that he fired them in the first place.
Though Gilgamesh merely cocked an eyebrow at the sudden reversal, his own treasures currently flying at him. Though he paid little worry to the matter, merely moving his head out of the way as they pierced into the walls of the arena and getting stuck in there as well.
“Well now! Perhaps you’re far more interesting than I gave you credit for, mongrel! Though, that’s hardly-“ Gilgamesh was interrupted by Adam himself, the human flash stepping towards Gilgamesh in the blink of an eye and landing a punch aimed square at Gilgamesh’s golden armor-covered chest. Though the Servant managed to put his arms up to cushion the blow, it still made him skid backwards across the stone ground.
“And Gilgamesh takes the first hit! A solid punch to the hero king’s ego!” Heimdallr declared through his horn, acting as the commentator for the match. Both the gods and humanity on the edge of their seat as they watched the battle unfold. Not only had Adam not taken a single hit from Gilgamesh’s barrage of attacks, but he also managed to easily breach past Gilgamesh’s defenses in order to deliver the attack.
“Sorry. I got bored of you talking.” Was all Adam said as he shook his right hand. “That armor of yours is pretty dense though.”
A smirk came across Gilgamesh’s face as he lowered his guard, clearly gaining some amount of amusement out of Adam’s brazen attack. Though Gilgamesh hardly felt the punch itself, it was still enough to, admittedly, surprise him. Something he had certainly not expected to come from such a challenger.
“I underestimated you. Behind that frail physique is actually a competent warrior. However…” Suddenly, a multitude of golden portals appeared, surrounding Adam who absently mindedly looked around at the many weapons that covered around him in a dome-like fashion. “Let’s see how far those reflexes of yours can take you, shall we?”
And with those words, the Noble Phantasms were launched one by one towards the still naked human. Though even still, Adam managed to dodge each one that was flung towards him. His body moving smoothly and gracefully, as if there was not a single bit of hesitation in his movement. However, as Adam did so, Gilgamesh couldn’t help but notice one specific thing that occurred before his Noble Phantasms were launched: Adam’s eye’s flashing red, and a peculiar symbol appearing is his pupils each time.
“So, his eyes are the source of his absurd reflexes? I’m curious as to how a mortal came across such power, but…” Gilgamesh thought to himself, though his thoughts were interrupted once more by Adam’s retaliation. Gilgamesh’s treasury once again being used against him as Adam’s reactions allowed him to both toss and kick the weapons back towards him. An expression of visible annoyance coming across Gilgamesh’s face as he summoned more golden portals to parry the weapons that were launched back towards him.
Though Gilgamesh wasn’t just going to allow Adam to ignore all the weapons in his treasury. If Adam was actually a more powerful opponent than he had figured, he would have to bring out more than just the casual weapons he was used to when it came to exterminating mongrels such as this. Gilgamesh began to float upwards into the air as Adam was continuously pelted with the portals that still surrounded him, though they were beginning to dwindle in number.
(Fate/Zero – Archer – Absolute Sanctuary)
“So, mongrel! I must congratulate you! You get to see some of the more special items in my treasury!” Gilgamesh’s voice boomed across the arena as Adam looked upwards, having not noticed Gilgamesh flying just yet. As a mass of golden portals, and one singular large one, appeared behind him. A sadistic smirk coming across Gilgamesh’s face as weapons began to appear in the portals. “I hope you consider yourself lucky to die to such weapons!”
The barrage began anew, as once again Adam managed to effortlessly dodge out of the way of such attacks. A bored expression coming across his face as he spoke at the same time as he was pelted with attacks.
“Is this really all you can do? It’s getting a little boring.” Adam asked, the barrage of attacks clearly far beneath him as he mixed it up between dodging and reflecting the attacks. Though Gilgamesh prepared for such actions this time, as he pulled out one of his favored golden blades. Striking at the incoming projectiles and slamming them down to the ground with relative ease. The arena quickly becoming a littering ground for unwanted weapons as many weapons were stuck in the ground, as the sound of clashing steel only served to add more to the ground.
However, as Gilgamesh’s many portals began to deplete, his final weapon began to show. A giant, jagged blade appeared from the portal. Wreathed in flames, both Adam and the audience stared at the massive weapon that had appeared from Gilgamesh’s treasury: Sul-sagana, its name borrowed from an ancient Sumerian deity.
“Let’s see you try and dodge this, mongrel!” Gilgamesh shouted with fury in his voice as he pointed his free arm forward, the giant blade launched out of the portal as the flames that coated it also sent a wave of fire across the arena. Adam’s passive facial expression turning serious as his eyes flashed, the flames spreading towards him at high speeds. Even the gods in the stands behind Adam beginning to panic and spread out, as they too would not be spared the ever-encroaching flames.
Gilgamesh let out a haughty laugh as the fire seemingly consumed Adam, the entire arena below him awash in a fiery glow not unlike many he had seen before in his life.
“A massive gulf of fire! Is there any way that Adam could’ve lived through that?!” Heimdallr shouted as the flames slowly began to dissipate; the heat of the flames forcing even the audience to reel back a bit. The Valkryies Brunhilde and Göll still watching in the top parts of the stands, with Göll nervously shaking as tears filled her eyes.
“S-Sister, is Adam…”
“Keep watching.” Brunhilde interrupted Göll’s worries, a smile on her face as she watched the flames in the arena.
“Seems like that was the extent of his eyes’ power. A pity. He almost could’ve been-“ Gilgamesh cut himself off as he witnessed a figure dashing through the dissipating flames. Gilgamesh’s eyes wide as he was taken aback by the appearance of Adam yet again, the blonde-haired human leaping through the air towards him in an instant. Delivering a right hook to Gilgamesh’s face that sent the golden warrior careening back down to the ground. A loud sound of cracking bones and metal hitting the earth as Gilgamesh’s body collided with the battlefield.
“That wasn’t half bad. Moving through the flames was tricky; had to find the ones that were the least hot and move through them.” Adam said as he dusted himself off; his pale white skin clearly suffering some burn marks, but not enough for them to be anywhere near debilitating for the human.
“A-Adam is still alive! And hardly a scratch on him! Truly, the father of humanity is a terrifying opponent!” Heimdallr announced, even him being surprised by Adam’s survival from the massive torrent of flames. Though Gilgamesh was clearly unperturbed by his survival, merely laughing at the sudden reappearance.
“Bravo, bravo! I must say, you are proving to be quite the entertaining opponent! However…” A great mass of energy began to swell inside Gilgamesh, the great hero king glowing even more golden than he was already was. His growing power even causing Adam to put his guard up, the human more than able to tell that what was about to occur would make the fight much more difficult than it had been.
(Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia – Those Who Challenge Gods)
And with a flash of light, Gilgamesh’s golden armor shattered, leaving him clad only in the bottom half of his armor and his armored gloves. The Babylonian tattoos covering his torso now visible to everyone. His golden hair as well fallen down from his slicked, pointed style to a messier style covering his forehead. A smirk coming across his face as he ran his armored hand through his hair, his red eyes staring down his opponent with the intent to kill.
“Now then…” A magnitude more portals appeared across the entire arena, more than Gilgamesh had summoned during this entire fight combined just from a visual guess. Adam’s eyes darting around to each portal as the weapons began to appear from each one. “…shall we begin the real match?”
As soon as those words left Gilgamesh’s lips, a barrage of weapons came forth from Gilgamesh’s portals. This time, the sheer number of them meant that Adam actually could not stand in one place and merely dodge them all. He had to actively move, his eyes lightning up every time one of the many, many Noble Phantasms Gilgamesh had at his disposal where tossed at him. No time to try and throw them back either; Adam could feel just from the sheer intensity that he had to dodge every single one, lest he be skewered.
However, this frantic dodging then also happened to reveal one key aspect of the Eyes of the Lord to Gilgamesh, as Adam’s nose began to bleed.
“Fascinating. So those eyes of yours do have a limit, mongrel.” Gilgamesh thought to himself as he discreetly summoned a few more portals, this time bringing out one of his most treasured items into play. Specifically, behind Adam as well. Adam’s reflexes were incredible, but they weren’t omniscient. And with Adam being preoccupied dodging every other weapon that Gilgamesh was throwing at him…
As the sound of the stone ground getting destroyed by the onslaught of weapons filled the other, a new sound emerged. The sound of chains rattling straight towards Adam. The man only turning around to see them once they had wrapped around his wrists and ankles. Helpless against the remaining onslaught of weapons that was about to occur.
“Gnghh…” Adam groaned as he struggled against the chains, as Gilgamesh summoned one last portal.
“Consider yourself lucky. It takes a truly skilled opponent for me to not only bring out Enkidu, but this as well.” Gilgamesh smirked as he pulled out a blade that resembled the legendary Excalibur. Raising it into the air, the blade began to glow a hot white, as energy surrounded it. The people on the ends of the stands that Gilgamesh was aiming towards all scrambling to evacuate, knowing full well it would spell certain death if they were caught in this next attack.
“Let’s see if you can survive this, dear mortal! After all, if you truly wish to pretend to be an equal to me, then you at least need to be able to take an attack like this!” With those words, Gilgamesh swung the sword downwards. A beam of light launching itself from Merodach, the Original Sin. The ground shaking and collapsing from the sheer intensity of the attack, as Adam watched the attack come at him. Balling his right hand into a fist, Adam looked at the chains that were binding him. A grunt leaving his mouth as he moved into as much of a sprinting position as he could while shackled by the chains.
And Adam took off running, the chains breaking off from their weighted point in the treasury from the sheer speed at which Adam was moving. Dodging out of the way of the sword laser in a split second, which had indeed destroyed the section of the stands which stood behind him. And it wasn’t long before Adam had appeared directly next to Gilgamesh either.
“What!? How did you-“ Gilgamesh’s state of shock was only interrupted by Adam driving a punch into Gilgamesh’s gut, the Servant’s red eyes bulging out of his skull as the wind was thoroughly knocked out of him from that singular punch alone. Adam followed up with a barrage of punches, each one faster than the eye could see, as seemingly as many fists were striking Gilgamesh as weapons he had in his treasury. Gilgamesh’s body now becoming covered in bruises and blood spots, as his wounds grew greater by the second. Until one final punch sent Gilgamesh flying into the wall behind him, his body becoming lodged into the wall before falling out onto one knee. His right hand keeping him steady as blood dripped onto the ruined stone beneath him.
“Hehe…hahaha…AHAHAHAHAHA!!” Gilgamesh let out a maniacal laugh as he shakily stood up, his crimson eyes manic as blood streamed down his face. “You truly are an insolent one for making me kneel, mongrel! But you have caught my curiosity! Tell me…what gives you the energy to fight with such vigor? What makes you think you can challenge literal gods as the human that you are?!”
A sigh left Adam mouth as he gripped the back of his shoulder with his left hand and moved his right arm back and forth. More blood had appeared from Adam’s nose as well, this time causing his entire upper lip and part of his chin to be colored scarlet. Even though Adam had only taken one attack throughout this battle, the father of mankind’s exhaustion was more than evident. His eyes having taken a toll on him, just from the sheer number of attacks that Gilgamesh had volleyed at him.
His eyes closed as he began to speak.
“Do you really have to ask? I’m fighting to save my children. I figured that would be obvious. What are you fighting for?” Adam asked of Gilgamesh, his voice so calm and matter of fact that it seemed like a stupid question to ask. Though for Gilgamesh, Adam’s answer had taken him off-guard. His manic state seemingly immediately shattered as he raised his armored hands to his head, his eyes narrowing at the blood that now stained his golden glove as he balled his right hand into a fist.
“I see. It seems that I misjudged you. However…” Gilgamesh raised his head from staring at his hand, meeting Adam’s eyes intentionally for the first time this entire fight. A genuine smile coming across his face as he spoke. “I have no intention of losing. And I trust you don’t either.”
Adam merely nodded at Gilgamesh’s words, a smile coming across his face as well. With Gilgamesh merely closing his eyes as he spoke.
“So, let us end this.”
(Fate/Grand Order: Babylonia – The Golden King)
With those words, Gilgamesh launched himself far up into the air. One final portal appearing beside him as he pulled out his final treasure: The Sword of Rupture, Ea. As well as portals for Enkidu to once again attempt to restrain Adam back down in the arena, though Adam could easily dodge them this time. But being how persistent they were, unlike the weapons in his treasuring, dancing around the battlefield was all Gilgamesh needed Adam to do.
Dark red energy began to swirl around the strange sword, as the earth itself began to shake as Ea gathered energy. The arena itself swiftly being evacuated of any humans and lesser gods that would immediately die from the incoming attack Gilgamesh was about to launch. As it was an energy that the gods themselves were intimately familiar: the power of creation itself. Gilgamesh closed his eyes as he felt the mass of energy concentrated inside of him, prepared to end this once and for all.
“I must say, I did not expect such a challenge from you, mon- no. Adam. The elements amalgamate, coalesce, and bring forth the star that weaves all of creation. Pay homage in death. Enuma…”
Ea began to glow, as a typhoon of dark energy began coalesce around Gilgamesh, all swirling to the blade Ea as the cosmos itself began to appear in the arena.
“What is…?” Adam himself was stopped short by the sudden mass of energy that appeared, his own survival instincts taking over as he turned to look at the hovering Gilgamesh. Or what he could see of him anyway. And that momentary distraction allowed himself to be snagged by Enkidu, his limbs and body being bound by the chains themselves. As Gilgamesh unleashed his ultimate Noble Phantasm.
“ELISH!!!”
The wave of dark crimson energy burst forth from the blade as Gilgamesh brought it down, pointing directly towards Adam’s direction. The human struggling against his binds as he stared at the act of creation, or in this case the power that could unmake creation.
But Adam wouldn’t lose here. Somewhere, a child was crying. And he would be there for that child. A flex of his strength easily shattered Enkidu, but as he began to move, he stared at the power of the cosmos itself.
And in that moment, his eyes shattered. Blood streaming down from his corneas as the blast of energy came crashing down.
“ADAM!!!” Göll shouted as Adam was seemingly overtaken by the blast of Enuma Elish, the attack dissipating just as fast as it was launched forward. A sigh leaving Gilgamesh’s lips as he began to return Ea to its proper place.
“My apologies. Truly. But you really were a worthy opponent.”
“You talk a lot. But it made it easy to find you.” Gilgamesh’s victory was not set in stone; the man known as Adam had managed to survive even Enuma Elish, the power of creation itself. But Gilgamesh was not blind; based on the blood streaming down from his eyes, he could tell that Adam was. The father of humanity raising his fist…
(Fate/Zero – This Day and Never Again)
…only to have it blocked by the palm of Gilgamesh’s hand, stopping the strike dead in its tracks before it collided with him.
“I don’t give my admiration to just anyone, mortal. You should take it in stride. Be happy in your final moments.” Gilgamesh spoke as many golden portals surrounded Adam’s body, each one housing a weapon that could fell a god. Adam blind to the golden shimmer that was currently surrounding him, his Eyes of the Lord having fully given out quite a while ago.
“Fall.” The spectators grew silent as the sound of weapons meeting flesh echoed throughout the arena, blood pouring from Adam’s increasingly lifeless body as his body became of human pincushion of Noble Phantasms. The Valkyrie Göll having to avoid her eyes from such a brutal sight, as the life left Adam’s eyes before long.
Gilgamesh simply stared at the corpse in front of him as he let go of Adam’s fist, noting that even despite him being weakened and unfit to fight by that point, he had still left a red mark on Gilgamesh’s palm just from the force of the strike alone. He closed his eyes as he descended back down to the arena, Adam’s body never hitting the ground as it dissolved into mere ash in the wind. The price of Volund, after all.
“Hmph.” Gilgamesh redonned his golden armor, running his gauntlet through his blonde hair as he gazed back up at the spectators. Specifically, the area where the one known as Zeus sat.
“Are you ready, old man? Let’s put an end to the Age of the Gods.”
KO!
Conclusion[]
Boomstick: Goddammit! And just when I had a new dad to look up to!
Wiz: This was an incredibly tough matchup to call. Both combatants boasting insane amounts of power, and feats that scale far beyond even the planet itself. Both fighters being able to take hits from godlike, omnipotent beings, while also being able to harm them.
Boomstick: Gil absolutely had Adam outclassed when it came to versality; that dude’s got so many weapons in his treasury that even he doesn’t know half the shit’s that in there! Plus, there was the fact that everything that Gil threw at Adam, he couldn’t copy, due to them being weapons and not, yknow, extensions of Gilgamesh himself.
Wiz: Adam, however, had a massive speed advantage due to being able to move in frozen time thanks to his Eyes of the Lord. He could react to literally anything and everything, even a punch like Zeus’. Meaning that with as fast as Gilgamesh is, it was going to be incredibly hard for him to land any decisive attacks onto Adam. Especially since Gilgamesh’s chains, Enkidu, likely would not have been much help in pinning him down.
Boomstick: Even if Gilgamesh managed to wrap him in those things, it’s hard to justify Adam being “divine”. Or, at the very least, to such an extent that it would actually pose a problem. He’s comparable to someone like Saint Martha or Georgios at C Rank at a high end, but it’s more likely he’d be closer to David at D Rank.
Wiz: Both of which put him dramatically below Heracles, who was ranked at B, and had the biggest problems with Enkidu. However, while Adam was powerful, his punches would likely do fairly little damage to Gilgamesh, who has fought the rogue AI BB. Someone who has the power of the Moon Cell and has all of reality at her fingertips. Not to mention his battle against Tiamat in Grand Order, which, while yes, he had assistance from the First Hassan and Ereshkigal, he still managed to put down a threat to all life.
Boomstick: And yeah, Adam’s reaction speeds are still likely faster than most of what Gilgamesh could toss at him…there’s a pretty major catch with those eyes of his.
Wiz: Even if Gilgamesh couldn’t use the weapons in his treasury, they are still Noble Phantasms. Weapons that are the stuff of legends; weapons that rewrite causality. Even if unable to be used at their full potential, they are still terrifying weapons, not unlike how Zeus’ punches were described as: “unavoidable one-hit kills.”
Boomstick: Gilgamesh had enough weapons stockpiled to burn out Adam’s eyes pretty quickly, and while Adam is no slouch even without his eyes, he doesn’t have the key that allows him to survive Gilgamesh’s onslaught.
Wiz: And of course, Enuma Elish likely would’ve been the final nail in the coffin. A Noble Phantasm that rewrites creation is pretty much the only tool Gilgamesh needs to really put down Adam for good.
Boomstick: Adam’s main win condition would pretty much be to rely on Gilgamesh’s cockiness coming back to bite him in the ass and simply wear the guy down with punches to his stupid, handsome face before he got serious. Though, the problem there is the fact that Gilgamesh can also use his precognition to just see the fact that Adam is a worthy opponent in the first place.
Wiz: Adam was an incredible opponent; he didn’t bring Zeus to his knees for nothing after all. And there were definitely some opportunities where he might have been able to eek out a victory. But Gilgamesh simply had the raw power and arsenal needed to put this dad down for a nap.
Boomstick: Adam truly ragnarocked as a father, but Gilgamesh’s fate as a victor will stay unchanged.
Wiz: The winner is Gilgamesh.
Trivia[]
- The connection between the two fighters are two "firsts" of human history (Adam being the first human, and Gilgamesh being the first hero), as well as two people who both have taken arms against the divinity. Tiamat in Gilgamesh's case, Zeus in Adam's case.
- A music track for this battle would be called "Humanity's Finest", referencing the fact that both Adam and Gilgamesh are regarded to be some of the most powerful characters in their respective universes.
- This battle was released the same day as Record of Ragnarok's anime release on Netflix.
- This battle went through a sort of "remastering" a while after it's completion. Originally this battle had Adam as the victor due to bungled research and an over-reliance on VSBW. This has since been corrected, with the proper victor being given.
