Background[]

The most feared as is the most dangerous of many of Night City's legends (second only to Morgan Blackhand), Adam Smasher made a name for himself as a force to be feared with. Extremely nihilistic and misanthropic to the core, Smasher's skills as a former US army infantryman proved handy when he was recruited by Arasaka as their hired killer and mercenary.

As a result with his association with Arasaka, Smasher was granted the most powerful technologies ever conceived by the company itself, weapons and armor in particular, and wealth to prove it. Feared greatly to the point where he was uncrossed by Night City's criminal underground, Smasher's reputation made him a legend in the Night City streets.

He personally encountered Johnny Silverhand during the latter's successful bombing of the Arasaka tower in the 2020's and captured him. In Cyberpunk Edgerunners, he encountered David Martinez's crew (who broke in the Arasaka headquarters to rescue Lucyna Kushinada), and killed Rebecca and David Martinez.

In Cyberpunk 2077, he served as the bodyguard of Yorinobu Arasaka, the estranged son of Saburo Arasaka and gang leader of the Steel Dragons, the anti-Arasaka yakuza gang. However, as Yorinobu killed Saburo and took over Arasaka for himself, Adam Smasher was later promoted as the company's chief of security, meaning that most of his independent operations as a mercenary was left to his right-hand man, Jeremiah Grayson. Regardless of whichever path V had taken (be with Rogue's solos or the Aldecados breaking into the Arasaka Tower, or by infiltrating the tower alone with aid from Hanako Arasaka), Smasher confronts V, but was later defeated by the latter. His fate remains ambiguous, depending on whether V had spared him or killed him.
