I decided to make a few of my narrative devices slightly more obvious, and I made the battle far more interesting!
Sadly, Monika didn't win, but I have the feeling she was pretty close! Ahaha

I’ve been slowly dropping more and more obvious hints that the death battle that I’m doing isn’t what it seems to be, only for them to… fall on deaf ears. I just can’t believe that nobody has caught onto what I’m doing yet, because I’ve tried to be incredibly obvious.
So, you know what? I’m going to just confess. I’m tired of all this hate mail.
TonyStark69420 isn’t a real person. The whole “Oh, I’m making a new version of this death battle” thing was just an excuse for me to publish the latest chapter. They’re not versions. They’re chapters.
My entire goal of writing this death battle was to make Monika actually break the fourth wall. Basically, the idea was, I was going to pit her against an insanely biased author who just wanted to see his character win, and have the two of them fight it out on the paper.
And of course I wanted to document each chapter of the battle, so I had to show various stages of revision. I wanted to show how Monika was modifying the script, the things she tried, and their outcomes.
The style and tone changes/inconsistencies represented Monika modifying the story. I wanted Monika’s revisions to the story to stick out, so I made them quote style, which contrasted to the story’s script style.
Wiz and Boomstick were out of character because that’s what Monika does. She manipulates the characters’ minds and personality traits. She amplifies their bad sides to make them less appealing.
Everybody is complaining about how “Monika isn’t fighting back”, but they’re ignoring the answer that’s staring them in the face. Like, I don’t get it. Monika is a seemingly innocent figure who manipulates the script behind the scenes to get her way. And then, you see her “not fighting back”, and you see a broken script, and you don’t put two and two together?
The entire point of this whole project was to show everyone how powerful Monika really was, by translating her abilities of manipulating a video game into manipulating the death battle fight script itself (and the author’s mind, of course, because that’s basically the equivalent of the game files). I just wanted to capture some of the spirit of Doki Doki Literature Club.
Yeah, TonyStark69420 is a character. He’s a stereotypical Marvel fan, and he was meant to be the epitome of bias. And the original plan was for Monika to delete him and take over his brain.
So… yeah.
If there’s an actual appetite for the last few versions (basically, the ones where Monika erases everyone and takes over the author’s brain), I guess I’ll continue to release them.
If not, IDK. I’ll move to Reddit or ao3 or something.

This is version 4! Now, you might notice that it’s a bit shorter. That’s mainly because a lot of the stuff I’d written before was sub-par, and didn’t exactly… make the cut, if you know what I mean.
It’s kind of crazy what happens when you add so much stuff and forget to edit it down! Ahaha
It seems like, every time I fix an imperfection, a new one pops up in its place. For example, the host, Boomstick, is a bit dumb; I believe he needs some sort of foil character.
I mean, seriously! How do they even do Death Battle with only Boomstick?
For now, of course, the next version is going to feature me, TonyStark69420, as Boomstick’s counterpart.

Well, this isn't final. After I added the last bits of the fic, I looked at the comments and saw people saying that it looked spiteful. And I looked on my message wall and saw a message telling me that I shouldn't put spoilers in my fic.
Plus, IDK, it feels like it's missing something.
So, I'm going to rewrite it and make a second version. I'm going to change the battle a lot! Stay tuned! lol
