Greetings, and welcome to DBF Interviews! For our fifth episode, I'll interview TheAnalyticAssassin, also known as RoadRollerDio, a community veteran, a well-recognized icon, and a soon-to-be father. So, without any further ado, let's begin!
-
Question: How did you think of your username?
Answer: That depends... which one?
RoadRollerDio was a name I came up with as I was in the middle of a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure phase. I was... quite obsessed with Dio as an antagonist - my first created page on here was Wesker VS Dio, in fact - and thought to combine the name with his infamous ROAD ROLLA DA line. It just stuck, until I fell out of the JoJo's fandom earlier this year.
TheAnalyticAssassin, on the other hand, combines the analysing I do for my Death Battle matchups with the profession of the main character in one of my current favourite games, Hitman. Love Agent 47; he's such a badass.

Question: When and how did you first stumble upon this wiki?
Answer: 2017. I had watched Amy VS Ramona one night - which as coincidence would have it, was the same night the trailer for "Project Sonic 2017"/Sonic Forces dropped - and decided to look into trivia surrounding the episode. Because who wouldn't want to know fun facts about a show they watch, right?
Of course, I ended up stumbling onto Amy VS Ramona's page here by mistake, and thought it was rather interesting due to it not being the same as the episode I had just watched. So, I kept looking around, but then I just... left for a couple of years.
It wasn't until June 2019 that I'd remember the Fanon Wiki exists, and due to my interest in drawing stagnating due to me being incapable of improving past a certain level of quality, I decided to try my hand at writing instead. The rest, as they say, is history.
-
Question: Which other wikis are you a part of?
Answer: Just this one, unfortunately. I did spend some time on the DBX Fanon back in 2020 or so, but I gave up on it to focus on my work here. I do have plans to return sometime this year, however.
-
Question: What was your first real project on here?
Answer: Blaze. VS. Weiss.
I gave up on Dio VS Wesker and decided to go with that matchup instead... for some reason. As for big-time projects, Sonic VS Giorno. Even if the quality doesn't hold up to some of my more recent works (which is basically just Goku Black VS Enerjak at the moment), holding the title of "longest battle on the wiki" and having it win both "Best Overall" and "Most Effort/Dedication" in the 2020 awards still makes me smile whenever I think about it.
Shame I'm not going to come close to Sonic VS Goku this year, but hey. The Sonic Battle Royale's going to take center stage in 2025. Mark my words.
-
Question: What is your favorite/least favorite MU?
Answer: Comp!Sonic VS Comp!Mega Man is my favourite.
Least favourite is Jolyne VS Spider-Gwen. I created the page for it here and removed my version because I thought it sucked. Oddly enough, the matchup would soon gain traction a couple of years later... somehow.
I don't get all the hype around it, or what I saw in it myself back in the day.
-
Question: What's a popular MU in the community that you can't stand?
Answer: Light VS Columbo. The idea itself is good, but I hate how people try to push it as a must-have episode when the concept would need a proper, drawn-out story to pull off well; not DB's usual three to four minute runtime when it comes to fight scenes.
Plus, people come to DB for the action, not for what's going to be nothing more than walking and talking for a few minutes. It just doesn't work as an episode, I'm afraid.
-
Question: What is your favorite/least favorite battle/project you've made?
Answer: Easy. Goku Black VS Enerjak is by far my best work, and therefore my favourite. Infinite VS Emerald isn't the worst by any means, but given how poorly I used their illusionary powers considering everything I could've done - and the state my life was in back when I wrote it - it's by far my least favourite.
-
Question: What is your favorite/least favorite battle/project on here in general?
Answer: I don't want to say what my least favourite is, because I feel that'd be kind of disrespectful to the poor soul that I'm throwing under the bus. However, my favourite is SoMaShadow's Dio VS Alucard.
Somehow, that dude knows how to keep a 50,000 word duel interesting, and his character writing is unparalleled.
-
Question: What makes out a good battle to you?
Answer: Just having good choreography, staying true to the characters and making as much use of their powers as possible. Plus, if you're going for a long-form battle, a bit of world building and a good story are essential to keeping readers' interests.
-
Question: What's your biggest hot take about anything related to Death Battle (if you have any)?
Answer: Sonic should've won against Wally, especially now that his cosmology scales higher than what the DB team considered the Speed Force to be. Hell, their entire portrayal of Archie in that episode was just plain bad.
To be fair, they sorted out their research by Trunks VS Silver, but if anything it just makes Sonic VS Wally... obsolete.
-
Question: What project of yours did you have/are you having the most fun working on?
Answer: Mega Man VS Robotboy, if only for the fact that I'm having a blast watching Robotboy again. I grew up with the show but hadn't seen it for over 15 years, but researching the character has given me a reason to get back into it again.
I guess that's why I love Mega Man so much; it's always reminded me of my childhood love for Robotboy.
-
Question: What's your favorite moment in the community you've been a part of so far?
Answer: Perhaps it's recency bias speaking, but everyone coming together for Web Surfer Jon following his passing and making thumbnails for his Guts VS Wolf matchup. I don't think I've ever seen us so united before.
-
Question: Outside of Death Battle, what's your favorite piece of media (movie, series, game, book etc.)?
Answer: Sonic might seem like the answer, knowing me, but... Gran Turismo has always been there since day one for me, and I have a connection to that series that transcends any and all love I have for the likes of Sonic, Mega Man, Gumball and so on.
-
Special Question: How do you feel about becoming a father soon?
Answer: Elated, to put it simply. Me and Mollie first met when we were 15 and 14, respectively, and while we were close friends then, neither of us would've thought we'd be in this situation within such a short space of time.
In only five years, we're living together, in a healthy relationship and expecting a child. I don't know what else to say other than I can't wait to see what the future holds for us.
