Greetings, and welcome to DBF Interviews! For our thirteenth episode, I'll interview Scarecrow640, a long time member of the wiki with even longer fights in their catalogue. So, without any further ado, let's begin!
-
Question: How did you think of your username?
Answer: I think the first time I had come up with my username was while playing Minecraft, I designed my character to look like a Scarecrow, and 64 was the first number I could think of, and that eventually became the thing I use for a bunch of stuff, one of which needed the thing to be renewed, and since I couldn’t pick what it’d just been I ended up just adding a zero to it, which then also stuck for me.
-
Question: When and how did you first stumble upon this wiki?
Answer: So, I’d been a fan of VS stuff before I’d came here, it was Freddy vs Jason that’d got me into that and I ended up thinking of a bunch of characters I wanted to see fight each other (most of which I’d probably nowadays consider to be really bad ideas), and one of my searches ended up being Judge Dredd vs Punisher, which led me to the page for it on here.
-
Question: Which other wikis are you a part of?
Answer: I’ve appeared multiple times in the Official Death Battle Wiki and the DBX and OMM Fanon wiki’s, there’s also two others that I frequent but don’t do anything in, those being VS battles wiki and the Shipping wiki, I’ll also occasionally go to wiki’s for a specific series to help me with my research.
-
Question: What was your first real project on here?
Answer: Well, technically my first page was Mr. Energiser vs The Duracell Bunny, a page that like several of my other firsts has been nuked to oblivion, the first fight I made that still exists is probably Mario vs Steve.
-
Question: What is your favorite/least favorite MU?
Answer: Favourite: Alastair Crump vs William Afton, this may be creators bias talking but these two just fit so well together for me.
Least favourite: I don’t really dislike any MU’s, in my opinion, anything could work if you understand the characters well enough, so I’ll probably just go with any MU featuring Meliodas (SDS) my most despised character out there, legitimately do not want him anywhere near the show.
-
Question: What's a popular MU in the community that you can't stand?
Answer: Probably Junko vs Springtrap, i just don’t think either one actually fits the other, Williams a serial killer who wanted to be immortal, Junko’s a terrorist who wants everyone to feel despair.

Question: What is your favorite/least favorite battle/project you've made?
Answer: Favourite: Crypto vs Sans, I somehow wrote a fight that long, that used so much of their equipment and abilities, and somehow Sans didn’t get hit once despite being at a disadvantage on multiple occasions, I legitimately have no idea how I pulled it off.
Least Favourite: Santa vs Dracula, it had an over reliance on cameos and despite being composite neither felt like they did much, it’s my biggest missed potential fight I’ve done.
-
Question: What is your favorite/least favorite battle/project on here in general?
Answer: Favourite: there’s a lot of good stuff on here from a lot of talented people, but if I had to pick, Somashadow’s DIO vs Alucard, the analyses had me genuinely interested in the characters and the story was great, I like how it portrays them both and I really liked their interactions with each other, be it the philosophical moments about Jonathan and humans, or the absolute assholery and spite they show each other, it even has a lot of different references that are implemented really well, the death was quite tragic, and the result is really good with how in detail it went, despite its length it really managed to keep me invested.
Least favourite: there’s a lot of bad fights on here, but at the very least, most are short and you don’t need to be there long, remember my comment about being kept invested, yeah, Hyper’s Armstrong vs Valentine just did not, the moments with fighting were good, but that’s the thing, for a fight with over 100,000 words, there’s hardly any fighting, or story, it’s all just yapping, I know the fights meant to focus on their clashing ideals, but constant back to back paragraphs that are just spent talking and talking is not how it’s done, worst part is that every time the fighting did start to gain traction, it’d be put to a halt by more talking, and most of it just feels like complete filler used to pad out the wordcount, most of the sentences feel like they’re just saying stuff said earlier or are just being used to make a reference, and it ended up feeling more like a chore to get through than anything else.

Question: What makes out a good battle to you?
Answer: In my opinion, the thing that most makes a good fight for me is a good dynamic, I want to see what kind of ways a character can bounce off their opponents method of fighting, I usually pick fights because I think they’d have some cool exchanges of abilities and fighting styles, which is kind of why matchups between characters with similar move sets don’t often interest me that much.
-
Question: What's your biggest hot take about anything related to Death Battle (if you have any)?
Answer: Regarding Death Battle specifically, probably that I like Shao Kahn vs Akuma.
If talking about VS debating as a whole, I do not agree with Plants vs Zombies universal scaling, Plasma Pea’s statements do not match up with what is shown in game (and it was a fan submission) and the Gnomes are noted to be liars, so I don’t agree with either argument for uni scaling.
-
Question: What project of yours did you have/are you having the most fun working on?
Answer: I think currently I’m having the most fun writing Homers analysis in Jershy’s favourite character battle royal, I just really enjoy the Simpsons.
-
Question: What's your favorite moment in the community you've been a part of so far?
Answer: I’d probably say when I made that post about being trans, I had been a bit worried about it and the fact that everyone was so supportive of me was incredible, it even gave me the courage to come out to my parents and I don’t think I’d have been able to without the support I got here.
-
Question: Outside of Death Battle, what's your favorite piece of media (movie, series, game, book etc.)?
Answer: Movie: Nightmare on Elm Street, Freddy is always a treat to watch.
Series: The Simpsons, new or old, the Simpsons is always peak to me.
Game: Astro Bot, I didn’t even recognise a lot of the cameos, I just think the games amazing.
Book: Harry Potter, probably nostalgia talking here.
-
Special Question: How do you feel about recently being promoted to Rollback?
Answer: Okay, I’ve not needed to use what I got with it yet but I’m ready to help if I do find a moment to.
